Canada’s Favourite Innovating Cooling Mattress
The Octave Vista is an all-foam cooling mattress that is one of the best for temperature control in Canada. At $899 for a queen size, this mattress is great for those seeking a lower-cost option that is still comfortable and cool.
With its unique cover and PolarMAX phase change material, the Octave Vista keeps sleepers cool in multiple ways. Canadians who want deep pressure relief for aching joints or pressure points will benefit from the copper-infused memory foam, which is restorative and soothing. With the longest risk-free sleep trial on the market, there is no reason not to try the Octave Vista.
Our Methodology
We rank every mattress we review based on several important features. We focus on features that most Canadians find important, such as the construction of the mattress, its cooling properties, motion isolation, and edge support.
During our testing process, we put the mattress through a gauntlet of usage tests, including ball drop tests, edge support tests, and temperature control testing. We take a close look at the materials and construction within the mattress, how it relieves pressure, and more. Our team of testers, experts, and researchers are all dedicated to providing their accurate opinions and feedback after testing each mattress. This is how we determine whether or not we can recommend a mattress to you.

We recommend this all-foam mattress for anyone who sleeps hot and likes a slightly bouncy sleeping surface. Octave Vista Mattress Prices and Sizes
The Octave Vista is a budget-friendly mattress. A Queen-sized mattress is $900 before any promotions, discount codes, or sales that are going on. Octave has frequent sales and promotions to reduce the price. Even before that, this mattress is still less expensive than some of the other all-foam mattresses on the Canadian market.
This mattress offers surprisingly effective cooling for those who sleep hot, as well as superior motion isolation and pressure relief. It’s balanced perfectly for most sleeping positions. The medium-firm feel may be appealing to a variety of sleepers, regardless of body type. However, it’s the industry-leading sleep trial and long warranty that sets the Octave Vista apart from the competition.
Vista is available in six standard mattress sizes as well as Split King. Everyone will have the mattress they need to sleep better. With a performance like this, it’s easy to justify an Octave Vista for every member of the family.

Mattress Construction
The Octave Vista Mattress is made from 3 layers of foam surrounded by a machine-washable cooling cover.
- The Cover: Those with allergies will appreciate the machine washable cover, which we found to stay super soft and durable no matter how many times we washed it. Warm sleepers will find that this cover also reduces heat and night sweats with its cooling Nanofibres.
- The 1st Layer: A layer of 2” copper-infused gel foam soothes and cushions aching pressure points. The PolarMAX phase-changing material keeps temperatures low, continuously cooling sleepers.
- The 2nd Layer: The middle layer is made with Elastex foam. This 2” layer mimics natural latex without the allergen factor. It gives the mattress a slight bounce and promotes better ease of movement throughout the night.
- The 3rd Layer: At the base of the Octave Vista is an 8” motion isolation foundation. It’s perfect for those who co-sleep and need movement minimalized. We also found that the built-in air channels kept the mattress from retaining heat.
The phase-changing materials used in the foam layers of this mattress are made to stop heating once they exceed a certain temperature. This means that the Vista mattress won’t retain heat like other all-foam options. The active cooling features give it a better temperature control score than most of the other mattresses we assessed during our trials.
Mattress Performance Test Results
Evaluating mattresses is what we do, and we always test the most important features of a mattress to determine how well you’ll sleep. Typically, we look at temperature control, motion isolation, and edge support.
Temperature Control (8.2/10)
By looking at the specific cooling properties infused in the layers of foam and fabrics, we can determine how well the mattress will probably reduce temperatures. We also have reviewers and testers try the mattress out in different seasons and ambient room temperatures to gauge how well it cools and eliminates night sweats and stuffy air. Hot sleepers will want to buy a mattress that ranks at least a 7 or 8 out of 10 to be comfortable.
While most all-foam mattresses tend to retain heat, we found that the Octave Vista performed well with all cooling tests. The core temperature of the mattress was regulated, but not nearly enough for those who sleep extremely hot. This mattress has light cooling rather than any strong active support, so it may not be enough for most sleepers.
Motion Isolation (8.5/10)
Using a combination of weighted ball tests and reviews of user experiences, we look for how well motion is absorbed in a mattress. When dropping ball weights, we check how far the motion ripples out, and our users who co-sleep try out mattresses for months to see how much motion they can feel when their partner moves or gets in and out of bed. While solo sleepers will sleep fine with a mattress that scores 5/10, couples will want to choose a mattress that ranks at least 7/10 to get undisturbed sleep.
The Octave Vista did a decent job with motion isolation tests, and we scored it above average. We found that with ball drop testing, motion was nearly completely absorbed. Couples with more restless partners and active pets reported that they still occasionally felt movement from across the bed.
Edge Support (9.7/10)
Those who sleep on the edge of the bed should consider buying a mattress with integrated edge support. This can help avoid sinking and sagging that can happen over time. Those who sleep in the middle of the bed will be fine with at least a 5 out of 10 score, but dedicated edge sleepers will want a higher ranking if hoping to own their mattresses for a longer period.
Despite its all-foam construction and lack of any strong or bolstered edges, the Octave Vista had strong edge support. The foam layers are durable and stable, with no deeper sinkage even when you sit right at the edge. It performed better in this area than we thought it would.
Firmness and Feel of the Octave Vista Mattress
As the basic mattress within Octave’s lineup, we expected the Octave Vista to lack in some aspects. The medium-firm feel is supportive and helps balance most body types and sleeping positions. The mattress is firmer than the other mattresses offered by Octave. This is because of the relatively thin comfort layers that quickly give way to the firm support layer below.
This mattress hugs your body, but you won’t sink very far into the mattress. It has little give when compared to other mattresses in the Octave line, or other all-foam mattresses in general. It has slightly less bounce than we typically see, but it didn’t make a difference to our testing team.
The bottom line is that the Octave Vista feels firmer than we expected it to. It provides strong support but minimal pressure relief, which can be an issue for some sleepers. However, it wasn’t enough to deter some of our testers, regardless of their weight or sleeping position.
Performance for Different Weights and Sleeping Preferences
There are a few factors that can determine how a mattress feels. Weight and sleeping preferences are two of the most important. While a firmness rating can give you an idea of how a mattress is meant to feel to most sleepers, your experience can vary if you are lighter than the average sleeper, heavier than the average sleeper, or if you sleep in a different position. Here’s how the Octave Vista felt for our testers in each category.
Weight Considerations
Weight can affect how comfortable or supportive a mattress is. The Octave Vista offers strong support that may appeal to any sleeping position, even lightweight sleepers (those weighing less than 130 pounds) and heavier sleepers (those weighing more than 230 pounds).
The pressure relief decreased with body weight, so heavier sleepers had less pressure relief than lighter ones. However, the support and relief were enough that this didn’t cause an issue. While other mattresses have failed to support heavier sleepers due to these scores, the Octave Vista avoided common pitfalls to be truly comfortable for most sleepers.
Sleeping Positions
Each sleeping position needs a different level of support. They may need different things to feel completely comfortable, which is why knowing how you sleep is important before purchasing a mattress. Our testers sleep in a variety of positions, so we can look at how the mattress feels for different sleepers. Here is what we found with the Octave Vista.
- Side Sleepers: Side sleepers need better support and alignment through the middle of the mattress, especially under the lower back. A mattress that contours to their shape and provides a neutral position for their spine is the best option. The Octave Vista contours to your body when you lie down. It provides strong support so that even side sleepers will feel comfortable. However, it lacks important pressure relief that some side sleepers find important. If deep pressure relief is necessary for you, you may want to consider a different mattress.
- Back Sleepers: Back sleepers need extreme contouring, improved lumbar support, and firmer support overall. The Octave Vista offers lighter contouring that some might prefer but offers optimal support in other needful areas. This mattress is a good choice for back sleepers as a result.
- Stomach Sleepers: Stomach sleepers need a plush top to reduce strain, but value strong support from the lower layers of the mattress. Lighter stomach sleepers may find that the Octave Vista is a bit too firm on top for them, but most will be comfortable with the support level in this mattress.
- Combo Sleepers: Combination sleepers move around a lot at night, so they need a mattress that doesn’t make them feel stuck. The Vista has a fast response time and firmer support, so combination sleepers can move around more freely than other all-foam mattress options.
Delivery, Sleep Trials, & Returns
Octave is a Canadian mattress Company that ships their mattresses from Ontario or Alberta. Most mattresses are shipped within 1 to 3 business days and will arrive between 2 and 5 days later depending on your location. Octave uses FedEx Ground shipping, which allows for contactless delivery to your front door. While shipping is free to most addresses, there is a $250 delivery fee for homes in the Canadian Territories.
Each Octave Vista mattress comes vacuum-sealed and tightly compressed in a tall, narrow box. Setting up the Octave is easy. We just had to unroll the mattress, place it on a compatible foundation, and carefully cut the plastic away. After a few hours, the mattress fully expanded, and it can be slept on the very same night. However, we recommend waiting at least 48 hours for the mattress to reach its full size.
Octave mattresses come with a 365-night sleep trial, which is longer than average and gives you ample time to try it out for yourself. If you aren’t happy with the mattress after sleeping on it for at least 21 days, simply contact their customer care team, who will schedule a time to pick up the mattress for donation. After pickup, you can expect a refund within 14 days.
- Shipping Cost: Free (except to Canadian Territories)
- Time to Delivery: 3-8 business days
- Courier: FedEx Ground
- Sleep Trial Length: 365 nights
- Warranty: 15 years
- Ease of Return: Free pickup and full refund during sleep trial
Company Background
Octave proudly manufactures and ships all of its mattresses right here in Canada. Catering to a wide range of budgets and offering fast shipping, Octave has a great reputation for having top-of-the-line bed in a box mattresses.
While they do not offer a brick-and-mortar store, Octave has plenty online to choose from, including three different mattress offerings. In addition to the Octave Vista, they have two more mattresses, the Mirage and Horizon, which have upgraded premium features. Octave also makes bed frames and a range of bedding options in various colours and fabrics.
Commitment to the Environment
Octave is committed to recycling used mattresses. All of the mattresses that are returned during the sleep trial are donated to those in need, so they don’t end up in landfills. When it comes to materials, all of the foams used within the Octave Vista are CertiPUR-US certified. They are also made with eco-conscious materials.
Elastex foam is made with fewer chemicals than standard latex, which makes it great for allergies and the environment. As a company, Octave adds more eco-conscious materials with each new mattress, lowering the company’s carbon footprint significantly. They also partner with Bullfrog Power, a company that is invested in renewable energy for manufacturing and business offices.
Octave Visa vs Other Octave Mattresses
The Octave Vista is the base model in Octave’s mattress lineup. It’s packed with great features, but the other mattresses in the lineup improve upon every one. Here’s how the Octave Vista compares to the other mattresses that Octave offers.
Octave Vista vs Octave Mirage
The Octave Mirage is the company’s midline mattress. It comes at a slightly higher price but offers better pressure relief and motion isolation than the Octave Vista. An extra layer of aerated latex helps promote better breathability and provides an extra bit of comfort for better cushioning.
The Octave Mirage improves on every aspect of the Octave Vista, but it features a slightly smaller support layer. This is because it uses more layers of comfort foam, so a smaller base allows for more room in the 13” height. If you need strong support, the Octave Vista is still the best choice. If you want better comfort and a little more breathability, the Octave Mirage is your best bet.
Octave Vista vs Octave Horizon
Octave Horizon is the luxury mattress in Octave’s lineup. This all-foam option includes five layers of foam, including three layers of comfort foam and a smaller support core. This means it’s softer, but the materials used also make it more responsive, better at relieving pressure, and better at cooling.
The Horizon uses some of the same layers as the Vista and the Mirage but adds a layer of cooling gel foam. With added breathability and active cooling features, this is Octave’s coolest mattress yet. It’s a bit softer than the Octave Vista, but the only other significant drawback is the higher price.
Competing Canadian Mattress Comparisons
The Octave Vista can be compared to some of the best mattresses on the Canadian market. Let’s see how it stacks up against some of the most popular all-foam mattresses available. We’ve chosen to compare it to the Silk & Snow Mattress and the Endy Mattress.
Octave Vista vs Silk & Snow Mattress
The Silk & Snow Mattress is the baseline model available through Silk & Snow, a company devoted to eco-conscious and transparent manufacturing processes. This mattress uses two layers of high-density comfort foam, a strong foam core, and an antimicrobial cover to deliver a unique sleeping experience.
The cover of the S&S mattress is antimicrobial but doesn’t include the same cooling features as the Octave Vista. While it does feature gel memory foam, it doesn’t use phase-changing materials. While the Silk & Snow mattress might feel a little softer, the Octave Vista is the clear winner when it comes to temperature control, sleep trial length, and warranty.
Octave Vista vs Endy Mattress
Endy is another basic all-foam mattress from a Canadian company. This mattress features strong lumbar support, comfortable contouring, and temperature-neutral foams. While the company offers a hybrid option, the original Endy mattress is a strong contender with proprietary foams and a budget-friendly price.
The Endy mattress also performs better when it comes to active cooling. The open-cell foam construction allows for better breathability than the Octave Vista. These features give it a much better score than most all-foam mattresses, including the Vista. It offers a cooler experience, but the Vista ultimately offers better edge support.
Should You Buy an Octave Vista Mattress?
The Octave Vista is an excellent purchase for Canadians seeking a cooling mattress at an impressive price. Hot sleepers will benefit from the heat-reducing cover and top layers, while those with pressure point pain will find relief from the copper-infused gel foam. While motion isolation for couples wasn’t the best we have tried, we think its other offerings more than make up for it.
While the Octave Vista can’t compete with a hybrid mattress, we think it’s one of the best all-foam mattresses that you can buy in Canada. When you consider the 365-night sleep trial, it’s not wise to overlook this mattress.
Highlights of the Octave Vista Mattress
The Octave Vista is the base model for the company, but it doesn’t feel like one. With strong support and mild pressure relief, this mattress could easily pass as a higher-shelf option. The cooling features are passable, even with phase-changing materials, copper-infused gel, and a cooling cover that wicks away sweat and moisture. The cover can be removed and washed, too. This is a huge perk for us. This is bundled together at a lower cost than you might find in other mattresses with these features.
The company offers a 365-night sleep trial and an impressive warranty. The customer service and overall mattress experience were great for us. It’s one of the best packages you’ll find in Canada, especially when you consider that you have a year to test the mattress before you decide to keep it. Hot sleepers and those who need better motion isolation will love this mattress, and dealing with the company is no hassle at all.
Areas for Improvement
The Octave Vista got high scores in most of our testing areas. While it performed admirably in edge support and ease of movement, it got much lower scores when it came to pressure relief and temperature control. These areas are lacking when compared to the mattress as a whole. Still, the results were about average for an all-foam mattress.
A thicker mattress with dense materials could have provided better pressure relief, and more active cooling features may have curbed the temperature control that this mattress sorely needs.
Our Recommendations for the Octave Vista Mattress
The Octave Vista offers surprising performance for its price point, particularly when it comes to edge support. It’s one of the most affordable mattresses on the Canadian market, and the only one at this price point that includes these sought-after materials. It can feel a little too firm for some, but it offers comprehensive and balanced support that works well for sleepers of all body types and sleeping positions.
This might not be the mattress for you if you want to avoid pressure points. The firm profile of the mattress relieves pressure, but only a small amount. Those who sink deep into the mattress might want to consider the Octave Horizon, which offers better pressure relief overall with some of the same great benefits. Otherwise, the Octave Vista is a solid, supportive mattress that comes with great company benefits.
