Temperature Control – 8.9/10

Temperature control varies with the different mattress options here. On one hand, the Medium Firm offers better temperature control because there are fewer materials to trap heat. The Plush version, though, has additional layers of cooling foam to prevent build-up. They both tested well enough for us, so the difference will be negligible to most. That said, extremely hot sleepers may need a cooler mattress. Both versions do well at dissipating heat, and our tests gave about average results. Heat built up quickly and was dissipated faster than anticipated, but some heat lingered in the mattress regardless. 

Motion Isolation – 9.2/10

For a hybrid, this mattress performed well in motion isolation. Despite the coils, the high-density materials came together to stop most small motions from transferring to the other side of the bed. We automatically expect lower motion isolation scores from hybrid mattresses, but this one performed well enough for us to take notice. Both practical and simulation tests showed minimal vibrations, and only some larger movements could be felt on the other side of the bed.

Pressure Relief- 8.6/10

Pressure relief from this mattress tested a little lower than we like to see, but this is only true of the Medium Firm version. The Plush version of this mattress features better-than-average pressure relief. Most side sleepers were comfortable, though our heavier testers said they could sometimes feel the coils below.

Ease of Movement – 9.4/10

The sinkage on this mattress is about average, but the high-density foams keep you lifted out of the mattress without being too uncomfortable. This means it’s easier to move around, as the materials will reform after you move away. The result is a more comfortable sleep overall, especially for those who move around a lot. We observed the quick response time, and our testers had no complaints about this mattress.

The result is a mattress that feels luxurious and unique, two features which are often hard to find at this price point. Still, it performs admirably in every other performance category.

Cooling layers make this mattress extremely comfortable for those who sleep hot. Between the breathable top, cooling foams, and pocket coils that breathe well, you’ll get a lot of temperature control from the Logan & Cove Frontier. Our testing showed that heat dissipated nearly as quickly as it built up within the layers. There is still some build-up, but the mattress works quickly to deal with it and resolve issues.

Motion Isolation – 7.1/10

We wish that the Logan & Cove Frontier would perform better when it came to motion isolation. Because of the coils, it just doesn’t provide enough motion-isolating materials to keep the other side of the bed steady. Without those layers, the motion isolation here may be okay for those without restless partners. Those who don’t wake up at every movement would be okay, too. Our tests, including simulation testing with weighted balls, showed poor results across the board.

Pressure Relief- 9.4/10

However, this mattress offers extreme pressure relief. The Euro-top and the Elastex layer within the mattress both work to reduce pressure, so you won’t feel any return on your joints as you sleep. This means that you’ll get less pushback from the mattress and experience a better time waking up in the morning. Our testers unanimously agreed that this mattress was great at keeping pressure reduced as they slept.

Ease of Movement – 9.3/10

The materials at the top of the Logan & Cove Frontier move quickly, reforming to meet your needs. It springs back in less than a second after you move, so you never feel like you are stuck within the mattress. We experienced no complaints over the length of our testing. Testers and simulation tests showed that moving around was easy and comfortable.

The Douglas Summit performs well when it comes to temperature control. With phase-changing material at the top of the mattress and a layer of cooling gel foam, you can expect the mattress to wick away most heat before you feel uncomfortable. However, this mattress is an all-foam option that provides a lot of opportunity for heat build-up. While heat dissipated quickly when we mapped the mattress, some testers experienced more heat than we would have liked from the core of the mattress. If you sleep warm, this should be fine for you. However, those who sleep hot may want a different option.

Motion Isolation – 10/10

The Douglas Summit is the ultimate option offered by Douglas. This means that you can expect top-tier performance across a couple of categories, including motion isolation. This mattress is our favourite for couples because of how well it performs in this area. Both practical and simulation testing produced great results, with little to no motion from the other side of the bed. There were minimal vibrations charted during our ball drop tests, and our testers couldn’t feel most of the larger movements, either.

Pressure Relief- 10/10

Another area where the Douglas Summit stands out is pressure relief. This is a thicker all-foam mattress constructed with pressure relief in mind. You’ll find that you won’t feel any pushback from the mattress, which means a more comfortable sleep with fewer pressure points. We didn’t receive a single complaint from our testers about the pressure relief in this mattress, and side sleepers especially thought it was extremely comfortable.

Ease of Movement – 9.9/10

Memory foam mattresses can often make you feel as though you are stuck, making it difficult to move and turn over on the surface of the mattress. The Douglas Summit fixes this problem by not including any standard memory foam in its construction. You can tell the difference in the materials by how quickly they respond. We noted extremely fast response times, so the foam moved to fill indents quicker than most of the other mattresses on the Canadian market.

Though it is a hybrid mattress, the pocket coils won’t carry motion from one side of the mattress to the other. The ergonomic design of this mattress and high-quality materials make it a little pricier than some of the other options on our list, but that price offers a unique experience that you won’t find in other mattresses.

This cover is extremely soft and breathable, with the ability to wick away moisture and heat. When it’s time for a refresh, you can remove and wash the cover of this mattress as well.
• 0.75” Thermosync Foam. The top layer of foam is infused with graphite. This allows for a natural means of getting heat away from you. Graphite conducts heat away and neutralizes it, refreshing the mattress and reducing the discomfort caused by night sweats.
• 0.5” AirgoCell Foam. This open-cell elastic foam doesn’t allow heat to build up, leading to a more comfortable sleep overall. Heat and moisture can’t get past this layer, leaving the core of the mattress comfortable and breathable.
• 0.5” MemoryAdapt Foam. A layer of special memory foam adapts to you, contouring to your body and providing pressure relief when you press deeply into the mattress. This layer does some of the heavy lifting when it comes to motion isolation. It also distributes pressure and weight evenly, which is ideal for side sleepers.
• 0.75” HRX Foam. HRX is a supportive foam that keeps you elevated out of the coils. This foam provides a support map that is ideal for your body, and it is resilient enough that you won’t feel pressure.
• 8” Pocket Coil Layer. Edge-to-edge pocket coils at the bottom of the mattress are divided into seven ergonomic zones. These zones are softer where you need better pressure relief and firmer where you need ideal support. 
• 3.5” Support Foam. Finally, a foundation layer of high-density foam helps the mattress keep its shape for longer. As a result, you’ll feel less motion transfer and more deep comfort from the other layers.

Emma Hybrid Premium Plus Mattress Performance Scores

Temperature Control – 9.2/10

Multiple layers of cooling material, including breathable coils and an open-cell foam, help regulate temperature throughout the mattress. While it won’t decrease all the heat you can feel through the mattress, it may deal with the bulk of it. When temperatures increased during our testing, this mattress was able to deal with it from the inside. We noted quick response times to heat, but warmer areas were of course the last to clear. If you sleep extremely hot, this mattress might not cool you off fast enough.

Motion Isolation – 10/10

We were extremely surprised at the results of our motion isolation testing for this mattress. Hybrids usually don’t test well when it comes to motion isolation, but the Emma Hybrid Premium Plus stopped virtually all movement before it reached the other side of the bed. We used weighted ball drop tests to simulate sudden tossing and turning, as well as practical tests for real-world results. Both testing modes came back with no motion transfer at all, which stunned us.

Pressure Relief – 8.7/10

There is a drawback to the Emma Hybrid Premium Plus, though. The thin comfort layers work for this mattress in every other category, but it suffers when it comes to pressure relief. Unfortunately, this is one of the areas where side sleepers need the most support. We noted deeper-than-average sinking through the layers, especially for heavier side sleepers. Our testers noted that they felt pushback from the mattress and that laying in one position for too long was uncomfortable.

Ease of Movement – 9.6/10

When it came to ease of movement, though, the Emma Hybrid Premium Plus did an amazing job of staying comfortable. The materials moved back into place quickly and efficiently, leaving little room for indents. Our testers reported that there were no troubles turning over or getting out of deeper indents, and moving around was comfortable throughout the night.

Who is the Emma Hybrid Premium Plus For? 

• Restless partners and co-sleepers. If you need to stay asleep even when your partner is tossing and turning, this mattress delivers. It provides excellent motion isolation.

For everything the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow does right, there is one area where it fails. This mattress has some of the worst motion isolation we’ve seen. The materials are part of the problem, with high-density moulded foams and perforated blends allowing more motion to transfer through the layers. If you or your partner are restless, you may want to avoid this mattress. It returned consistently poor results in our simulation tests, and our practical tests didn’t go much better.

Pressure Relief – 10/10

Pressure relief is where this side-sleeper mattress really comes through. While some of the other mattresses on our list are accessible only to average and lightweight side sleepers, this mattress is one of the best for heavier Canadians. Its supportive materials remove virtually all pressure from the sleeping environment, leaving you comfortable and without strain. We didn’t have a single complaint about pressure or pushback from this mattress across all of our testing phases.

The materials used at the top of this mattress are extremely responsive. You won’t fall into deep body indents because they keep you lifted out of the mattress. Because they move back into place quickly after you move away, it’s extremely easy to move around on the surface of this mattress. The layers within this mattress work to move heat away from you, and they are mostly successful in this. The Aerocoil layers in the middle of the mattress provide ventilation, while the other layers isolate heat to keep you cool. Our heat maps showed that heat didn’t build up within this mattress. When heat did show up, it was quickly dealt with due to the breathable nature of the mattress.

Motion Isolation – 10/10

Couples can enjoy this mattress without any worries about motion transfer. The Simba 5000 completely isolates motion, reducing anything you’ll feel on the other side of the bed. Fortunately, both our simulation tests and practical results came back completely clear of any vibrations or shaking from larger movements. 

Pressure Relief- 9.3/10

The Simba 5000 is a thicker mattress, with multiple comfort layers that help create a well-cushioned feed. You’ll get great pressure relief here, particularly if you sleep on your side. The materials cushion your joints and pressure points well, reducing discomfort when you wake up in the morning. All but our heaviest side sleepers felt extremely comfortable on this mattress. Those who usually have deeper pressure points found the mattress to work less well for them.

Ease of Movement – 8.3/10

While it isn’t difficult to move around on the Simba 5000, it isn’t exactly easy. This mattress features a middling score when it comes to ease of movement, which we don’t typically like to see. If you need to move around a lot at night, this mattress could make it a lot more difficult for you. Our testers said that it was a bit harder than normal to change position while sleeping on this mattress, as they often became stuck in their own indents.
