Endy Hybrid Mattress Review

A No-Nonsense Hybrid with Pressure Relief in Mind

The Endy Hybrid is the second mattress from Endy – a popular company whose all-foam mattress is known for motion isolation. It’s a budget-conscious hybrid that comes in at just $1,250 for a Queen, which beats out some of the other options we see on the Canadian market. Plus, the company policies make it extremely easy to try the mattress before you commit to a purchase.

Good company policy and solid performance across most areas make this mattress worth looking into. If you need better pressure relief, temperature control, and ease of movement from your mattress, this is the option for you. We’ll look at its best features and how it performed throughout our testing phases.

Our Methodology

Slumber tests all mattresses using the same tools. We like to even the playing field by offering well-researched and testing-backed scores. We want to give you the best idea of how a mattress might work for you, so we’ve performed a gauntlet of tests with testers of all body types and sleeping positions. We’ve also looked at how it performs in simulated real-world circumstances, all in an attempt to give you the best possible look at a mattress before you invest.

Our testers use the mattress in various ways, both in practical testing with immediate feedback and with long-term use at home. They write detailed reports for any issues they have with a mattress during their time using it, no matter how minor. Our simulation tests also take turns with the mattress, using weighted ball drop tests and heat mapping software to track how the mattress performs in common situations. These results, plus our tester feedback, help us compile information about the mattress to share with you.

Mattress Details

The Endy Hybrid is an upgraded version of the original all-foam Endy. It uses some of the same materials but replaces the foam core with a zoned pocket coil base. It offers better support and ease of movement but at the expense of motion isolation. This mattress doesn’t isolate motion well, leading to some drawbacks in that area. Still, it does well when it comes to pressure relief, which is sometimes more important (especially for side sleepers).

Two layers of foam sit atop a firm zoned core, including a layer of Endy’s Comfort Foam. This boasts an open-cell construction to isolate heat and improve airflow. It also helps isolate some motion, but the effect is minimal overall. This layer’s chief purpose is breathability and pressure relief. The transition foam is great at keeping you lifted out of the coils so you don’t get uncomfortable. With a 100–night sleep trial and a 15-year warranty, you’ll get plenty of time to see if this mattress works for you.

Endy Hybrid Mattress Prices and Sizes

Endy’s hybrid mattress is at the lower end of the price range for mattresses of this type. Most are a little more expensive than the Endy, and a select few are much more expensive. That said, most budget hybrid mattresses tend to hover around this price point, with a Queen-sized Endy Hybrid coming in at $1,250.

Endy Hybrid compares well to other mattresses in this price bracket, though some options have better motion isolation than this one. However, in most other categories (including temperature control and pressure relief), Endy Hybrid is near the front of the pack when compared to mattresses at a similar price.

Here are the available sizes, prices, and dimensions for the Endy Hybrid mattress.

Mattress Construction

The Endy Hybrid uses two layers of foam atop a zoned pocket coil layer. Below the pocket coils is an additional layer of support foam, which reduces sagging and keeps your mattress comfortable. Here are how the layers in the Endy Hybrid will work for you.

  • The Cover: The cover of the Endy Hybrid is quilted. It’s plush, with a layer of foam quilted right into it for a more pressure-relieving effect. This cover isn’t removable, but it is soft and works well with most sheet sets.
  • The 1st Layer: The first layer of foam within the mattress is Endy Comfort Foam, a medium-firm layer of open-cell foam. This layer is plush, but it also helps with airflow. The cells help with airflow, with more breathability than standard memory foam with closed cells.
  • The 2nd Layer: A middle layer of transition foam cushions your deepest pressure points, keeping you elevated out of the mattress and properly aligned. This layer keeps you from feeling the coils below, so you can remain comfortable even as the coils work to support you.
  • The 3rd Layer: The supportive coil core of the mattress uses durable carbon steel pocket coils. They are extremely durable and zoned for comfort, with firmer coils along the edges of the mattress and through the centre for lumbar support.
  • The 4th Layer: A final layer of high-density foam keeps your mattress from sagging. This layer helps the mattress maintain its firmness and support throughout years of use, helping the coils maintain structural integrity.

Endy Hybrid uses open-cell foam to reduce discomfort, isolate motion, and keep you cool. The foam is unique, and the zoned coil layer helps with stronger support than Endy’s all-foam mattress. This mattress is compatible with most foundations, including box springs, slatted frames, and adjustable bed frames.

Mattress Performance Test Results

We tested the Endy Hybrid using our team of testers as well as simulation experiments. Here’s how it performed in several key categories that Canadians find most important, including temperature control, motion isolation, and edge support.

Temperature Control (9.2/10)

Night sweats are a common complaint among Canadians. Overheating at night is incredibly common, and a mattress with active cooling features may be able to help. We looked at the materials used closely to determine how a mattress would handle heat. We also used heat mapping software and tester feedback to work out heat dissipation capabilities for each mattress. Hot sleepers need a mattress that scores at least an 8 out of 10.

The Endy Hybrid uses two different cooling measures to reduce heat. First, the hybrid coils allow for better airflow through the middle of the mattress. This means that heat can be reduced quickly, so even temperatures that build up are dealt with quickly. The results of our heat mapping found this to be accurate. The open-cell foam at the top of the mattress also helped keep air moving through the foam, reducing the build-up that is common in foam-based mattresses. Our hottest sleepers noticed significant heat reduction on this mattress.

Motion Isolation (6.4/10)

Motion isolation is one of the most important features for most sleepers. Those who share a bed need motion isolation if they often wake up when their partner moves around. We test motion isolation using weighted ball tests, practical tests with our testers, and equipment to measure vibrations on the other side of the bed. We got a good idea of how this mattress reacts to different levels of motion. Motion isolation above 7.5 is essential for those who sleep light or those who have restless partners.

Unfortunately, this is one area where the Endy Hybrid doesn’t quite stack up. Our tests and simulation tests both had terrible results with the motion isolation from this mattress. This was surprising, especially considering that the original Endy was great at isolating motion on the other side of the bed. However, this mattress produced significantly more movement and transferred even the smallest motions across to the other side of the bed. Sleepers who need better motion isolation should choose a mattress that performs better in this category.

Edge Support (8.3/10)

Edge support is important if you sit on the edge of the bed in the morning, or if you tend to gravitate towards the edge in your sleep. Either way, you need edges that won’t sink or sag under your weight. That’s where bolstered edges, strong edge support foam perimeters, and other edge support features come in handy. We test this by weighing the edges down specifically, as well as by using testers to see how the edges hold up.

The Endy Hybrid did fine in edge support, but it could have performed better. There was some sagging and sliding at the edges of the mattress, but not enough to keep us from recommending it. If you don’t mind edge support that is a little less than stellar, this mattress will be fine for you.

Firmness and Feel of the Endy Hybrid Mattress

All of our mattresses have a firmness ranking, which we composite from several sources. First, we look at how the manufacturer rated the mattress. Then, we take into account our own experiences with the mattress, as well as the experiences of our testing team. A mattress rated at a 1 is soft, while a mattress rated at a 10 is extremely firm.

Firmness Chart 6.5
The Endy Hybrid ranks at a 6.5 on our firmness scale.

The Endy Hybrid is a 6.5 on our firmness scale, which is a classic Medium Firm. This is a pretty average firmness, especially for mattresses that use foam. It offers a ton of support to keep you comfortable, and the zoned coil layers help keep your body aligned and well-supported. Softer layers of foam contour to your body, while softer coils at the top and bottom thirds of the mattress reduce pressure in places you are likely to press into the mattress.

Most sleeping positions will find this mattress comfortable, with moderate sinkage for most average sleepers. It feels plush and comfortable at the top, with enough support from the base of the mattress to reduce discomfort.

Performance for Different Weights and Sleeping Preferences

There are a few factors that determine how a mattress will feel to you. These include your body type and sleeping position. Before you purchase a mattress, it’s important to consider these factors. Since we have testers of all different body types and those who sleep in a range of different positions, we are able to look at how the mattress reacts to each type of sleeper.

Weight Considerations

Your body type can determine how a mattress feels, and a mattress may be more or less effective depending on your weight. The Endy Hybrid is mostly acceptable for all body types. Lightweight sleepers (those weighing less than 130 pounds, as defined by the mattress industry in Canada) should feel well-supported without the mattress being too firm.

This mattress is also thick enough to be comfortable for heavier sleepers (those weighing more than 230 pounds). Because it has strong support and great pressure relief, weight shouldn’t affect how comfortable the mattress feels for most Canadians.

Sleep Positions

Different sleep positions require different levels of support. Each sleeper will need different things from their mattress because of the way they sleep. Pressure relief, support levels, and alignment capabilities can change based on this factor. Here’s how the Endy Hybrid worked for each sleeping position when we tested it.

  • Side Sleepers. Side sleepers need alignment and support through the middle of the mattress. Pressure points can become a problem for side sleepers who don’t have proper pressure relief. The Endy Hybrid offers everything that side sleepers need, from alignment to support and pressure relief. The layers are thick enough to protect your joints without allowing you to sink too far in and become uncomfortable.
  • Back Sleepers. To be comfortable, back sleepers need a mattress that contours and supports them. They need a mattress that has firmer support and a plush top to reduce discomfort while adding support. The Endy Hybrid offers some features that are great for back sleepers, but there are better mattresses on the Canadian market for back sleepers.
  • Stomach Sleepers. In general, stomach sleepers require extremely strong support. They need a firmer feel overall with a softer top to reduce pressure and discomfort. Keeping a stomach sleeper aligned is the highest priority to avoid aches, and the Endy Hybrid is great at alignment. The top has enough pressure relief for lighter stomach sleepers, while the core provides extreme support.
  • Combo Sleepers. Because combination sleepers need to change positions often during the night, they need a specific type of mattress. One of the best features of combination sleepers is ease of movement. A mattress that works well for these sleepers should not make you feel stuck and should respond quickly when you move away.

Company Background

Endy is a Canadian company that makes mattresses, bedding, bed frames, pillows, and more. Their original all-foam mattress is a well-known and popular option, and the Endy Hybrid is a bit less so. They have a reputation for making quality prices at an affordable price point, specifically without the frills other mattress companies emphasize. While they mostly sell mattresses online, they recently opened a showroom in Ontario where you can go and view their mattresses.

Many of Endy’s products are meant to complement each other, with bed frames that are compatible with their mattresses, for example. They make a variety of home goods, though they are most well-known for the original Endy mattress, which was one of the first online options to prioritize motion isolation.

Commitment to the Environment

Endy’s mattresses are made to be safe for the environment. They off-gas just a bit, with an odour that is much less than the typical amount found in all-foam mattresses. While they don’t state outright that their mattresses are eco-conscious in any measurable way, all of the materials used are CertiPUR-US certified. This means they are free of potentially harmful chemicals at the very least.

Endy Hybrid vs Endy Mattresses

Endy makes two mattresses – the Endy Hybrid, which we’ve seen here, as well as the original all-foam Endy. Let’s see how they compare so you can choose the right one.

Endy Hybrid vs Endy

The original Endy is an all-foam mattress that uses mostly the same construction. Instead of the pocket coil base, you’ll find a base of dense polyfoam to help balance and support your body. Mostly, the original Endy boasts somewhat better performance than the Endy Hybrid in nearly all categories. However, the Endy Hybrid wins out when it comes to pressure relief.

One of the original Endy’s biggest selling points is motion isolation. It receives one of our highest motion isolation scores, making it a much better choice for those who need to stay asleep while their partner is restless. The Endy also has slightly better temperature control and edge support than the Endy Hybrid, so you should choose the original if those features are important to you.

Competing Canadian Mattress Comparisons

There are a ton of hybrid mattresses in the Canadian mattress market, but they can be vastly different. From budget hybrids to luxury models, there is an option for everyone. Here’s how the Endy Hybrid stacks up to two popular hybrid mattresses from competing companies.

Endy Hybrid vs Silk & Snow Hybrid

The Silk & Snow Hybrid from Slumber.ca Testing
The Silk & Snow Hybrid from Slumber.ca Testing

The Silk & Snow Hybrid uses high-density foam and zoned coils to keep you comfortable and well-supported. There are two firmness options on the Silk & Snow Hybrid, and it performs slightly differently based on the option you choose. However, both Silk & Snow Hybrid versions are great for side sleepers and offer great motion isolation.

The firmness choices and its superior motion isolation definitely make it an attractive option over the Endy Hybrid. You can choose how the mattress feels, and both reduce motion transfer so you can sleep more comfortably. The Medium-Firm version of the Silk & Snow Hybrid is less expensive than Endy’s Hybrid. However, Endy uses open-cell foam that allows for slightly better temperature control than either of the Silk & Snow Hybrid options.

Endy Hybrid vs Logan & Cove Choice

Logan & Cove Choice mattress in a bedroom
Logan & Cove Choice mattress in a bedroom

The Logan & Cove Choice is the lowest-tier model that Logan & Cove offers, so it comes at a budget when compared to the other luxury mattresses at Logan & Cove. Its eco-conscious layers and zoned pocket coil base make for a comfortable sleep that focuses on temperature control and pressure relief.

This model is comparable to the Endy Hybrid when it comes to performance in most cases. However, the Logan & Cove Choice has slightly better temperature control than the Endy Hybrid. Motion isolation is comparable, and neither of them is particularly good when it comes to stopping motion transfer. On the other hand, the Endy Hybrid offers slightly better pressure relief.

Should You Buy an Endy Hybrid Mattress?

The Endy Hybrid mattress could be a great investment if you need a hybrid mattress at a lower cost. It offers good performance in most categories and passable performance even where it’s lacking. The only reason we would suggest staying away from this mattress is because of the poor motion isolation. While it is passable for most Canadians, those who have restless partners shouldn’t purchase this mattress.

However, this mattress provides features that most Canadians like, even in different sleeping positions. Heavier sleepers and side sleepers will benefit most from this cool, supportive mattress.

Highlights of the Endy Hybrid Mattress?

The Endy Hybrid performed well in a ton of areas. Its open-cell memory foam top layer allowed for better breathability and temperature control throughout the mattress. Those who slept hot didn’t feel too warm on this mattress, which was definitely a good thing for our testing rounds. This mattress also does extremely well when it comes to pressure relief, which is something that side sleepers in particular need to remain comfortable.

Other notable areas include bounce, ease of movement, and company policies. It’s easy to move around on this responsive mattress, and you won’t feel stuck in the foam like you might in many other foam-based mattresses. The company policies are also great, as this is one of the only mattress companies in the Canadian market that doesn’t require you to keep your mattress for a certain number of nights before you can initiate a return. Finally, the materials respond so well that they provide some bouncy feedback. Some may not like this, but those who enjoy a bouncy mattress will love how well the Endy Hybrid moves.

Areas for Improvement

There are a few areas where this mattress could improve. The first area is clearly motion isolation, where it scored quite badly in our testing rounds. Since motion isolation is such a big issue for a lot of Canadians, improving how this mattress isolates motion could lead to a higher recommendation. It also doesn’t have great edge support, though it’s far from the worst we’ve seen. Finally, the company seemingly has no eco-conscious policies or materials, which may turn some Canadians off from purchasing from them.

Our Recommendations for the Endy Hybrid Mattress

We can recommend the Endy Hybrid to side sleepers, heavier sleepers, and some stomach sleepers. Those who sleep hot will enjoy this mattress, and it’s a good choice for those who need additional lumbar support. Because of its lower price range, we can also recommend this mattress to those who want a high-quality mattress on a tighter budget.

FAQs

What is the weight limit for the Endy Hybrid Mattress?

Like most mattresses, the Endy Hybrid has a weight limit of 250 pounds per sleeper or 500 pounds overall.

Is the Endy Hybrid mattress great for couples?

The Endy Hybrid mattress isn’t the best for couples. Most couples, especially those with restless partners, need motion isolation to sleep better. The Endy Hybrid didn’t perform well when it came to motion isolation, so it isn’t the best choice for couples.

Are the coils within the Endy Hybrid mattress zoned?

The coils used within the Endy Hybrid are arranged in comfort zones, with firmer coils across the centre of the mattress and around the perimeter. The coils in the top third and bottom third of the mattress are softer to help cushion your body properly.

How long does it take for the Endy Hybrid mattress to off-gas after you unbox it?

The Endy Hybrid takes between 1 and 3 days to off-gas completely, which is a little shorter than average for a bed in a box mattress

How long do you have to keep the Endy Hybrid before you can return it?

Endy occupies a unique position in the Canadian mattress market. While most other mattresses require you to keep the mattress for a set amount of time to try it out properly, the Endy doesn’t. You can return it on day 3 of your sleep trial or day 99.

Does the Endy Hybrid sleep cool?

The Endy Hybrid received a great score from us when it came to temperature control. It sleeps cooler than an all-foam mattress due to extra open-cell breathability, as well as the pocket coils in the support layer.
