Temperature dissipated quickly, and the materials (particularly the phase-changing materials) worked to maintain a consistent cooler temperature. We had no complaints from our testers, except those who slept extremely hot consistently.

Motion Isolation – 8.2/10

If there is one area that performs a little worse than what we like to see, it is motion isolation. This mattress doesn’t isolate motion well, and our testers were able to feel movements from the other side of the bed. Simulation tests and practical tests returned similar results. We can’t recommend this mattress to those who need total motion isolation.

Pressure Relief- 10/10

However, this mattress is extremely comfortable when it comes to pressure relief. In all of our testing, this mattress received the best pressure relief results out of most of the mattresses on the Canadian market. It uses soft, responsive layers that help cushion your deepest pressure points. Our testers reported that this mattress never returned any pressure, even in areas where they pressed deeply into the mattress.

Ease of Movement – 8.6/10

Pressure relief comes at a cost, and for this mattress, it’s ease of movement. While the results of this test weren’t terrible, they weren’t the best we’ve seen. You won’t feel any significant resistance while trying to move around, but it won’t be as easy as some of the other mattresses on the Canadian market.

The Douglas Alpine surprised us. After rounds of testing, it offered surprisingly strong performance in most areas, including response, ease of movement, and motion isolation. It has strong edge support for an all-foam mattress. The only area where it came up short was bounce. For some, this won’t be a problem. It’s also a little thin for heavier side sleepers, but it performs well for most average and lightweight side sleepers.

First, the phase-changing material keeps the mattress at a consistent temperature to help you sleep more comfortably. The layer of cooling gel foam helps isolate heat, and the Elastex foam at the centre doesn’t allow it to build up and become uncomfortable. Testing showed that the mattress maintained its efforts to remove heat, providing a more consistent temperature reduction across several hours of use.

Motion Isolation – 9.8/10

Motion isolation is important, particularly if you are a light sleeper. If you often wake up when your partner tosses and turns, this score will be great news for you. This mattress dampens motion extremely well, so you’ll feel less than ever from the other side of the bed. We performed both types of testing for motion isolation, including practical and simulation tests. Both returned amazing results.

Pressure Relief- 9.1/10

The Douglas Alpine has great pressure relief, particularly for those who don’t sink too far into the mattress. Average and lightweight sleepers will have the best time with this mattress, as the comfort layers are a bit thin for heavier side sleepers. Still, most won’t have any issues at all with the pressure from this mattress. The layers do their best to keep you comfortable, and most of our testers didn’t report any issues.

Ease of Movement – 9.6/10

Even though this all-foam mattress can cradle your body and create better pressure relief, it isn’t hard to move around when you need to. Even after hours of sleeping in one spot, our testers found it extremely easy to turn over and change position. That’s because this mattress offers a surprisingly strong response time. We noted that it moved faster than average to regain its shape.

Who is the Douglas Alpine For? 

• Restless couples. If your partner wakes you up by tossing and turning, this mattress is a great help. It isolates motion, trapping it so it doesn’t move to the other side of the mattress and wake you up.
• Active sleepers. Do you move around a lot in your sleep? If you do, you won’t have to fight with this mattress. It’s easy to move around on the surface.

Motion Isolation – 7.2/10

The Casper Snow isn’t a great choice for couples and those with restless partners. The motion isolation doesn’t stack up to other all-foam mattresses, which may be due to the dense materials used in the construction. No matter which test results we looked at, we couldn’t find a way that this mattress isolated much motion at all.

Pressure Relief- 9.1/10

Pressure relief is extremely important for side sleepers, but all sleepers can benefit. This pressure relief on this mattress is hardly the worst we’ve seen, but it isn’t the best either. Most Canadians will sleep comfortably on this mattress, even those who sleep on their sides. Our testers didn’t complain too much about any pushback from the mattress, either.

Ease of Movement – 8.4/10

It’s a little harder to move around on this mattress than some of the others we’ve looked at, even those on our list. The foams make it easier to sink in, which can make it more difficult to change positions or turn over in the middle of the night. Our testers said they experienced some resistance, but it wasn’t significant to stop them from changing position in many cases.

Who is the Casper Snow For? 

• Extremely hot sleepers. The Casper Snow received one of our best scores during our temperature control testing. If even moderate cooling isn’t good enough for you, this mattress may be able to help.

When the mattress heated up, the temperature was immediately brought back down to a manageable level. It took less time to remove heat than most other mattresses we’ve tested.

Motion Isolation – 8.1/10

Motion isolation can be a problem with this mattress. While it does isolate some motion from the other side of the bed, it isn’t enough to completely eliminate vibrations. Practical tests showed that our testers could feel all but the smallest movements from the other side of the bed. Our simulation tests clocked a lot of movement during our ball drop tests, which means that you’ll feel more than you want to. 

Pressure Relief- 8.4/10

Pressure relief is another area where this mattress is less than ideal. Heavier sleepers, especially, should avoid this mattress when possible. The comfort layers aren’t thick enough to stay comfortable in the long term, and pressure points can develop when you press against the mattress. Pressure relief was one of the most common complaints from our testing team.

Ease of Movement – 9.4/10

Despite all of this, it is extremely easy to move around on top of this mattress. You can’t sink very far into it, which means that you won’t feel like you are stuck in the mattress at any point. Our most active testers didn’t report having to fight with the mattress at all. It was simple to move around and easy to get comfortable again because the materials reformed so quickly.

Who is the Hush Graph Iced For? 

• Edge sleepers. Sleepers who make a home at the edge of the bed will be surprised to find that it doesn’t sink or collapse under their weight nearly as much as other mattresses might.
• Canadians who are active in their sleep. It’s easy to move around on the surface of this mattress, which may be a relief for Canadians who often change position throughout the night.
