Endy Mattress Review

Winner of the Best All-Foam Mattress in Canada

The Endy is a medium-firm all-foam mattress that is packed with features. At $895 for a Queen size, it’s a reasonably budget-friendly mattress that is great for those who need an all-around solid option. It’s easy to try the Endy mattress, and it won’t break the bank if you need to buy mattresses for your entire household.

The Endy mattress is geared towards couples. It delivers outstanding motion isolation, as well as deeper pressure relief for aching joints. Those who suffer from pressure points feel more comfortable on this mattress overall. While it lacks some temperature control and durability features compared to a hybrid option, we think its best features and lower cost make up for what it lacks.

Our Methodology

Slumber’s testing process is an in-depth assessment that can take weeks to complete. We work with the mattress at our test lab, repeating tests over and over to get an average result. These tests include motion transfer tests and ball drop tests, which measure transfer and sinkage. We test temperature control, and support, and examine the materials used within each mattress carefully. Once we’ve finished our testing, we sent our testers home with the mattress. Testers may use the mattresses for weeks or months before telling us all about how they performed.

Our testers are a diverse group. We look at the results of all sleeping positions, weights, and sleeping styles while reviewing a mattress. The results from our testers are given to our team of experts and researchers to develop a review. We strive to recommend only the best mattresses, and every mattress that goes through this process may not be reviewed or recommended.

Mattress Details

The Endy is an all-foam mattress made by a Canadian company with a good reputation. The Queen size is priced at $895, which is lower than many other foam mattresses on the market. It has a breathable cover and is constructed with three different layers of polyurethane foam, which makes it comfortable and durable. The Endy is latex-free and hypoallergenic. When combined with the washable cover, this mattress is a great option for any Canadian with allergies.

The Endy is ranked as a medium-firm mattress. It is ideal for all sleeping positions, but its excellent pressure relief foam may appeal to side sleepers the most. Couples and co-sleepers will benefit from the transition foam, which absorbs motion before it can be transferred to the other side of the bed. It includes a 100-night sleep trial and has a 15-year warranty, which are both average when compared to other foam mattresses available in Canada.

Endy Mattress Prices and Sizes

While all-foam mattresses aren’t as expensive as hybrids, most are a little more expensive than the Endy. This mattress is a budget-friendly option that gives you some of the best pressure relief and motion isolation available for the low price of $895.

Endy got great scores from us when it came to pressure relief and motion isolation. It’s a little firmer than your average medium-firm foam mattress, but the temperature-neutral foams will stay consistent throughout the year. A 100-night sleep trial and 15-year warranty are covered by Endy’s outstanding customer support and company policies.

The Endy shines in a variety of sizes, including an RV size. This makes it ideal for most Canadian homes. It’s rare to find such a high-quality RV mattress at a price that won’t shock you!

Mattress Construction

The cover of the Endy Mattress
The cover of the Endy Mattress

The Endy mattress is made from 3 layers of foam and surrounded by a soft, breathable polyester and spandex fabric cover.

  • The Cover: The cover of the Endy mattress is made of white quilted polyester that is soft and breathable. We loved that it zipped off around the edges and could be machine-washed. It did not pill, shrink, or show any signs of wear when we repeatedly washed it.
  • The 1st layer: The top layer of the mattress is made with 2” of Endy Comfort Foam. We thought that this layer was breathable and that sleeping was moderately cool. While it had a bit of sinkage, we never felt trapped or stuck in the mattress. We thought it had decent ease of movement, but hot sleepers may not be cool enough to sleep through the night with this layer alone.
  • The 2nd layer: A 3” layer of transition foam sits in the middle of the Endy mattress. It provides excellent pressure relief for side sleepers. We found that the motion isolation that this layer offered was excellent, and couples were able to get restful sleep even when their partners tossed and turned.
  • The 3rd Layer: The high-density foam core of the mattress is 5” of support and durability. It won’t break down as fast as some other all-foam mattresses might. This layer provided great balance and durability to the mattress as a whole. It isn’t as firm as a supportive layer of coils, so those who need a softer mattress can get comfortable.

The Endy mattress is made with temperature-neutral foams throughout. While some memory foams get firmer in the winter and softer in the summer due to ambient temperature fluctuations, the Endy mattress stays the same. No matter the season, the support is consistent.

Mattress Performance Test Results

When we received the Endy mattress, we put it through a host of tests against other mattresses. We compared it to other all-foam mattresses, innerspring mattresses, and hybrid mattresses. The open-cell foam used within the Endy mattress gave it an edge over traditional all-foam mattresses. Here’s how it performed in these tests.

Temperature Control (9.3/10)

We measure temperature control by looking at heat retention levels, airflow, and keeping track of how our testers felt after sleeping on the mattress. Average sleepers can be comfortable on a mattress with a rating of 5 out of 10, but hotter sleepers will want a higher score. Canadians who usually experience night sweats should choose a mattress with a rating of at least 7 out of 10.

Most all-foam mattresses don’t do a great job with cooling off sleepers, but we found the Endy to be better than average. It has a breathable cover that helps promote more airflow, so the mattress never seems overly stuffy. At the top of the mattress, a layer of Endy Comfort Foam was moderately cool. These features work together to create a much cooler mattress than we expected.

Motion Isolation (9.6/10)

Our team used a ball drop test to determine how well a mattress absorbs motion. In addition to technical testing, we had real-time reviewers try these mattresses for months to determine how good the motion isolation is. Those who often wake up when their partners move around should choose a mattress with a score of at least 7 out of 10. Solo sleepers should be pleased with a lower score.

The layer of transition foam in the middle of the Endy mattress does a great job absorbing motion. We gave this mattress a higher score because of it. We found that when doing weighted ball drop testing and listening to our reviewer’s sleep experiences, couples could sleep undisturbed. Even if they usually had restless partners, most sleepers were able to get some rest.

Edge Support (9.7/10)

Edge support is important for any sleeper who gravitates toward the edge of the bed. It’s crucial for those who need extra support getting in and out of bed, too. A good edge support system may use different materials along the edge of the mattress. Hybrid mattresses tend to score higher, often with scores of 8/10 or more. Foam mattresses don’t do as well in this area, and should score at about 5/10.

The Endy mattress has more edge support than we expected from a mattress that doesn’t use coils. Those who sleep near the edge of the bed won’t contend with any sinking or sagging. The thicker support layers help reduce discomfort at the edges, so you get the same level of support from one end of the mattress to the other.

Firmness and Feel of the Endy Mattress

When we test a mattress, we try to determine a firmness ranking that helps you imagine how a mattress might feel. Our scale starts at 1 (extremely soft) and goes to 10 (extremely hard), though we’ve never had a mattress rate a 1 or a 10. Most fall in the middle, usually between 4 and 7.

The Endy mattress is medium-firm and comes in at about a 6 on our firmness scale. Despite this rating, it’s a bit firmer than some of the other all-foam mattresses we’ve looked at in the past. That’s mainly due to the low sinkage and quick response of the mattress, which makes it feel a little firmer than the materials suggest.

Firmness Chart 6
The Endy mattress is a 6 on our firmness scale.

This firmer feel makes the mattress more supportive overall, but may not provide enough pressure relief for some. Those who need additional lumbar support or who need a plush top should skip this mattress. However, users who prefer a slightly firmer feel and lower sinkage will love the way it cradles them without allowing them to sink too far into the mattress.

Performance for Different Weights and Sleeping Preferences

When shopping for a new mattress, you need to consider your body type and sleeping position. These are two of the biggest factors that can determine how comfortable you find a mattress. They can fundamentally change how a mattress feels, so what works for one person may not work for another. We consider body type and sleeping position during our testing, too. Here’s what we found while testing the Endy mattress.

Weight Considerations

Heavier sleepers do best on thick mattresses with plenty of comfort foam. Though the lack of coils might appear to make this mattress more comfortable for those who might sink in a bit, the reality is not what you’d expect. The support layer is still firm enough that heavier sleepers may sink right through the layers, creating uncomfortable pressure points. Heavier sleepers, in this instance, refers to sleepers over 230 pounds.

Lighter sleepers may not appreciate the firmer feel of the mattress, either. Though this mattress may seem ideal for light sleepers, it has a sweet spot that includes sleepers that are more on the average side. Otherwise, you may float on top of the mattress and sacrifice pressure relief and support.

Sleeping Positions

How you sleep can have a huge impact on the type of mattress you need. Each sleeper needs different things, and some beds can be better suited to certain types of sleepers. Here’s how the Endy mattress performed for every sleeping position.

  • Side Sleepers: The level of support in this mattress is best suited for average side sleepers. Typically, side sleepers require a great deal of pressure relief and contoured support to feel comfortable. This mattress provides these, but only for some sleepers. Heavier side sleepers may form uncomfortable pressure points, while light side sleepers may not appreciate the firmer feel of the mattress.
  • Back Sleepers: Back sleepers need support and contouring to avoid discomfort throughout the night. The firmer feel of this mattress is ideal for back sleepers of light and average weights, especially those who are accustomed to an all-foam mattress. Heavier back sleepers may not feel as supported on this mattress.
  • Stomach Sleepers: Stomach sleepers need strong internal support from a mattress. They sleep best when they have a plush top and alignment from below. The Endy does good for some stomach sleepers, as long as they aren’t heavier. Some might need a softer mattress, though.
  • Combo Sleepers: The Endy mattress is one of the best mattresses we’ve reviewed for combination sleepers. It has minimal sinkage when compared to other all-foam options, and is easy to move around on due to its quick response time. Average and lightweight combination sleepers that move around a lot should feel comfortable on this mattress.

Delivery, Sleep Trials, & Returns

Endy is a Canadian mattress company that manufactures and ships mattresses out of warehouses in Ontario and British Columbia. Mattresses ship free to all of Canada except some locations in specific Territories, which will incur a $150 fee. Endy uses FedEx Ground to ship their mattresses. It can take between 1 and 7 business days to arrive after placing your order.

We thought the setup of an Endy mattress was easy, though we do recommend having an extra person to help place the mattress on your foundation. The Endy comes compressed and rolled in a tight vacuum-sealed plastic wrapping and ships in a tall, narrow box. Once it is out of the box, it can take a few days for the mattress to reach full size.

Each Endy mattress comes with a 100-night sleep trial policy, which is about average for most Canadian mattresses. It should give you ample time to make sure you enjoy the mattress. If you aren’t happy with the Endy, they will schedule a pickup time and issue a full refund within 14 days.

  • Shipping Cost: Free (except in some Territories)
  • Time to Delivery: 1-7 business days
  • Courier: FedEx Ground
  • Sleep Trial Length: 100 nights
  • Warranty: 15 years
  • Ease of Return: Free pickup and full refund within the dates of the sleep trial

Company Background

Endy is a Canadian mattress company that is well known for its classic all-foam mattress. As one of the original bed-in-a-box mattress manufacturers, they have a well-deserved reputation for making quality mattresses at a lower-than-average price point. While they primarily sell mattresses online, they recently opened up a showroom in Ontario, which showcases their mattresses and other home offerings.

In addition to their original mattress, they also offer a hybrid option, which is plusher and has more durable coils and a built-in edge support system. Endy also makes bed frames, bedding, pillows and rugs, which are made to complement each other.

Commitment to the Environment

All of Endy’s mattresses are made to be safe for the environment. They off-gas only a moderate amount, which should dissipate after about 24 hours. We found that it sometimes has an odour for a little longer, which is not uncommon with all-foam mattresses.

Endy doesn’t state outright that its mattresses are eco-conscious, help reduce carbon footprint, or are made with environmentally safe manufacturing methods. The mattresses are CertiPUR-US certified, which means they are free of potentially harmful chemicals. However, the company is devoted to taking the gimmicks out of online mattress shopping, which may be a selling point for some.

Endy vs Other Endy Mattresses

Endy has a solid lineup with only two mattress choices. Both mattresses are built on the same principle, but one is a hybrid with increased support. Here’s how the Endy compares to the Endy Hybrid mattress.

Endy vs Endy Hybrid Mattress

The Endy Hybrid mattress takes everything great about the original Endy mattress and builds upon it. It features zoned pocket coils instead of a supportive foam core. It still uses Endy’s open-cell comfort foam, as well as the same temperature-neutral design that makes the Endy work so well in all seasons.

The original Endy has better motion isolation because it is an all-foam model, though. The pocket coils on the Endy Hybrid provide better support and alignment, but they also allow more motion to move across the mattress. If motion isolation isn’t important, the Endy Hybrid will work perfectly for you.

Competing Canadian Mattress Comparisons

Now that we’ve compared the Endy to mattresses from the same brand, let’s take a look at how it compares to similar mattresses by popular Canadian mattress brands. Today, we’re comparing the Endy to the Douglas Original and the Silk & Snow mattress.

Endy vs Douglas Original

The setup we used to test the Douglas Original mattress
The setup we used to test the Douglas Original mattress

The Douglas Original is a best-selling all-foam mattress in the same price range as the Endy. This mattress features eco-conscious foams, better temperature control, and standout pressure relief among its peers.

While the Douglas does offer some motion isolation, the Endy does better for couples. It works to remove motion quickly, while the Douglas mattress is more limited when it comes to restricting transfer. If you want a cooler mattress, the Douglas is a good alternative. However, the Endy still wins when it comes to motion isolation.

Endy vs Silk & Snow

Edge support and pressure relief from the Silk & Snow Mattress

Silk & Snow’s flagship all-foam mattress is comfortable and relieves pressure like no other. It also offers some active cooling measures in the form of cooling gel foam. While it won’t sleep as cool as some mattresses devoted to reducing temperatures, it offers welcome relief to those who sleep hot.

The Endy mattress is challenged in this area, as it doesn’t offer any active cooling measures at all. Still, it offers slightly better cooling than the Silk & Snow mattress, which performs a little worse. The Silk & Snow also offers better pressure relief and might be better for side sleepers.

Should You Buy the Endy Mattress?

The Endy is the perfect choice if you are seeking a budget-friendly option with great support. All sleeping positions can be comfortable on an Endy, and couples will enjoy the motion isolation that it provides. Hot sleepers may need to look at a mattress with better temperature control, as the Endy doesn’t offer extreme cooling properties.

The sleep trial is average, but most will be able to tell if the Endy is a good choice within the 100-night time frame. Edge sleepers won’t get the perimeter support needed and should consider the Endy Hybrid instead. This alternative offers strong coil support along the edges of the bed.

Overall, the Endy is a great all-foam mattress. While it can’t compete with some luxury hybrid options on the market, it’s worth considering for couples and those who don’t need the extra support.

Highlights of the Endy Mattress

The Endy does best with motion isolation. The surface doesn’t sink as much as most other all-foam mattresses, which means that motion is unlikely to transfer. Plus, Endy’s open-cell foam helps trap and absorb motion before it gets to the other side of the bed. This same structure helps with some breathability.

Those looking for a bounce will love this mattress, too. It offers some bounce and recovers quickly, so you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. It’s easy to move around at night. In addition, the temperature-neutral foam is a unique highlight. While some foams get firmer or softer depending on the ambient temperature, the foam within the Endy mattress will stay the same throughout every season and temperature fluctuation.

Areas for Improvement

The Endy mattress performs well in most categories, but may struggle when it comes to pressure relief and company policy. This company is great, but it doesn’t offer a long sleep trial like most other all-foam mattresses on the Canadian mattress market.

While it does great with pressure relief for lightweight back sleepers, side sleepers and stomach sleepers may struggle. Side sleepers may sink through to the support layers of the mattress due to the thin profile. Stomach sleepers, on the other hand, might need more support.

Our Recommendations for the Endy Mattress

The Endy mattress offered better performance than the average all-foam mattresses. It even excels in areas where other all-foam mattresses suffer. It offers much better motion isolation and edge support than other all-foam mattresses, but the pressure relief might not be enough for some sleepers.

It’s priced below the average for all-foam mattresses in Canada. However, it uses quality materials and proprietary foam to create a comforting sleep surface. We thought this mattress was best for couples, particularly those that often wake each other up with tossing and turning. Light and average stomach and back sleepers may love this mattress, but heavier sleepers should steer clear.

FAQs

How much does the Endy mattress cost?

The Endy Mattress costs between $675 and $995, depending on the size. Most Canadians purchase a queen-size mattress, which runs $895. The Endy is a great budget-friendly option, as most bed-in-a-box mattresses cost much more.

Is it hard to set up an Endy mattress?

Setting up an Endy mattress is easy and can be done in just minutes. We recommend having two people to help place the mattress on the frame, as it can be heavy to move. After removing the mattress from the box, simply unroll, cut away the plastic seal and watch the mattress slowly expand to full size.

Do I have to be home for the delivery of an Endy mattress?

Endy mattresses are shipped via FedEx ground within Canada. Each mattress is tightly rolled and compressed into a tall and narrow box and can be delivered to your doorstep without the need for anyone to be home. If you happen to live in an apartment, you should check with your building to see how larger packages should be received.

Is the Endy Mattress made in Canada?

Yes, the Endy mattress is made in Canada. With a showroom in Ontario and a warehouse there, as well as in British Columbia, all mattresses are manufactured and distributed in Canada.

How long is the Endy sleep trial?

An Endy sleep trial is 100 nights long, which is average for a bed-in-a-box mattress in Canada. We recommend trying the mattress for at least 30 days to allow your body to fully adjust to it. If, at any time within the 100 nights, you decide that the Endy mattress is not right for you, you can contact them, and they will schedule a pickup time, followed by a full refund.

Does the Endy mattress have a weight limit?

Like most all-foam mattresses, the Endy mattress has a weight limit to prevent the breakdown of the mattress. The weight limit for this mattress is 250 pounds per sleeper or 500 pounds overall. We don’t recommend this mattress for heavier Canadians because of the way it sinks, though.
