Logan & Cove Choice vs. Logan & Cove Frontier

Logan & Cove entered the Canadian mattress market six years ago and has quickly made its mark as a manufacturer of reliable, high-quality mattresses. If you have narrowed your options down to the Choice or Frontier from Logan & Cove, you now face a decision between two great mattresses.

At Slumber, we dedicate our time to testing and rating mattresses so that we can help you with your mattress-related decisions. In this article, we use our test results to compare the Logan & Cove Choice and Frontier mattresses to give you a comprehensive overview of how they perform in areas such as motion isolation, firmness, and temperature regulation so you can make an informed decision on which mattress will meet your sleeping needs better.

Overview of Logan & Cove

Logan & Cove sold its first mattresses in 2018 so it is one of the latest mattress brands to enter the Canadian market. However, it is part of the Goodmorning.com company, which is one of the most popular mattress retailers in Canada and has been meeting Canadians’ sleeping needs since 2009.

Since its foundation, Logan & Cove has been focusing on Canadian excellence and producing hotel-like, bed-in-a-box mattresses in Ontario. The company is committed to keeping their mattress production in Canada, innovation, and sustainable practices. In addition to mattresses, Logan & Cove also sells other sleep-related items such as bed frames and bedding.

Choice vs. Frontier Price Comparison

In the table below, you can see how much the Choice and Frontier mattresses cost in each available size. Because the Frontier is an upgraded version of the Choice mattress, this is reflected in the price. While the Choice is a more budget-friendly mattress, you are still getting excellent quality and a mattress that can help you get comfortable and sleep better.

Mattress Sizes

Because the Choice and Frontier are made by the same company, the mattresses’ sizes are identical except for the height. The Frontier is made with an additional layer, which we cover a little later in the article, and this adds 1.5” to its height. If you prefer a higher mattress, then the Frontier is better for you. However, the Choice mattress is still higher than the average mattress in Canada.

Sleep Trials, Warranty, and Delivery

Many mattress companies now offer perks such as free deliveries and at-home sleep trials to attract customers and give them reassurance, especially when buying a mattress online. Below, you can find details on the sleep trial and deliveries Logan & Cove offers together with information on their warranty on mattresses.

Sleep Trial

Sleep trial refers to the number of nights you can try the mattress at home before deciding if the mattress is right for you. When a company, like Logan & Cove, offers a sleep trial, you still pay the full price when you purchase the mattress but receive a full refund if you decide to return it.

Logan & Cove has a 365-night sleep trial, which is one of the best in Canada. The company asks you to use the mattress for at least 21 nights before you decide. This is because your body will take some time to get used to a new sleeping surface. In the rare event that you wish to return the mattress, contact the Logan & Cove customer care team to arrange a collection and your refund will be issued once the mattress has been picked up.

Warranty

The length of the warranty period is often a good indicator of how much confidence the manufacturer has in their mattress. Logan & Cove mattresses have a 15-year warranty against material and manufacturing defects. Since the average lifespan of a hybrid mattress is around ten years, the warranty will cover the whole lifetime of the mattress and shows that Logan & Cove have high confidence in the durability of their mattress.

Delivery

When you purchase a mattress from Logan & Cove, you can get it delivered for free to most parts of Canada. However, there are exceptions such as the territories and remote areas like the northern parts of Quebec and Manitoba. All the areas that will incur a delivery fee of $250 are listed on the company’s website so you can check before ordering. Mattresses are shipped within five days from ordering and depending on where you live, delivery can take up to five days.

Mattress Construction and Performance

Both the Choice and Frontier mattresses from Logan & Cove are hybrid mattresses, meaning they are made with a combination of foam and springs. However, the mattresses are constructed differently, for example, the Choice has three layers, while the Frontier has four layers. How a mattress is constructed will affect its performance and feel.

Differences in the Construction of the Choice and Frontier Mattresses from Logan & Cove

The Choice mattress is made with two layers of foam and one layer of coils and covered with a 0.5″ thick cover made with fibre-filled quilted foam and Cryofusion Nanofibres that are designed to keep you cooler.

The first foam layer is 1″ thick and made with cooling ecoLuxe gel foam. The second foam layer, which is 1.5″ thick, is Elastex foam that mimics the qualities of natural latex foam. The final layer is the coil layer. It is 9″ thick and has up to 2,200 individually pocketed coils for better motion isolation. The coils are arranged in zones to provide improved lumbar support and to create a stronger edge.

The cover of the Frontier mattress is also infused with Cryofusion Nanofibres. In addition, it has a layer of quilted gel foam and a hollow fibre fill to enhance airflow. Similarly to the Choice, the first foam layer is made with ecoLuxe gel foam.

The second layer is where we find the first significant difference because rather than adding another foam layer, Logan & Cove uses Aeroduct Micro Coils here to reduce pressure, contour the body, and keep the air circulating.

Underneath the first set of coils is another foam layer. It is made with the latex alternative Elastex and used as a transitional layer between the coil layers. The final layer has individually wrapped coils arranged in zones for firmer lumbar and edge support.

Temperature Control

Choice 8.9/10; Frontier 9.2/10

When we tested the Choice and Frontier mattresses, we found that they both have above-average temperature regulation properties. The Frontier performed slightly better in releasing heat and keeping the mattress and sleeper cooler thanks to the added cooling features in the mattress cover and the use of coils in the second layer for improved airflow.

Because of their high scores, either mattress works well for people who regularly overheat during the night and wake up sweating. However, you can still choose either mattress if you do not sleep hot without worrying that the mattress will make you feel cold. The cooling properties are designed to wick away excess heat, not all heat, so you should stay at a comfortable temperature throughout the night.

Motion Isolation

Choice 8.5/10; Frontier 7.1/10

Interestingly, the Choice performed better in our motion isolation tests. When a mattress has good motion isolation, it means it effectively prevents motion from travelling between different parts of the mattress so that bed-sharers are less disturbed by the other person’s movements.

We believe that while the use of two layers of coils is great for pressure relief and comfort, they reduce the mattress’s ability to isolate motion. Because the Choice has two layers of foam on top of a single layer of coils, it reduces motion transfer more. Therefore, if you share your bed and wake up easily when the other person moves, the Choice may be a better option for you.

Edge Support

Choice 9.0/10; Frontier 9.7/10

Hybrid mattresses usually have better edge support than foam mattresses and the Choice and Frontier did not disappoint. Both mattresses got above-average scores and the Frontier’s score was close to a perfect ten.

The Choice and Frontier mattresses use firmer coils around the perimeter to prevent sagging and sinking. This is especially important if you often sleep on the edge of the bed. A stronger edge is also beneficial for people with mobility issues as it can support you better when getting in and out of bed. While both mattresses performed great in this area, consider choosing the Frontier if you require extra strong edge support.

Firmness and Comfort

Choice 6.5/10; Frontier 6.5/10

The commonly used scale to show how firm a mattress is runs from 1 for the softest mattresses to 10 for the firmest mattresses. You are unlikely to find mattresses from either end of the scale sold in stores because they would be unsuitable for most Canadians. Instead, most mattresses sold in Canada are medium-firm mattresses with a rating between 4 and 10.

Firmness Chart 6.5
Both Logan & Cove Mattresses are a 6.5 on our firmness scale.

Despite the different constructions, the Choice and Frontier both scored 6.5 in our firmness and comfort tests. Each mattress has enough sinkage for your hips and shoulders to sink in to keep your spine straight but not so much that you feel stuck to the mattress.

However, you should note that mattresses will feel different to each of us. For example, a mattress with a 6.5 firmness rating is likely to feel firmer for a lighter sleeper while a heavier sleeper will sink more and therefore the mattress will feel softer. Having said that, most Canadians are likely to find that Choice and Frontier offer a good level of firmness and comfort for them.

Final Verdict: Which Mattress is Right for You?

Based on our test results, the Frontier is better if you need a mattress that offers extra strong edge support, while the Choice is better for people looking for better motion isolation. Both mattresses offer good temperature regulation and are therefore suited for hot sleeper. However, the Frontier was slightly more effective in wicking away heat and moisture.

The Choice and Frontier are both medium-firm mattresses which makes them suitable for most Canadians. They are also suitable for all sleeping positions offering a balance of support and contouring. If you are shopping on a budget, the Choice is the less expensive option but as our test results show, you still get a high-quality mattress that is likely to keep you sleeping comfortably for several years.

Other Mattress Options from Logan & Cove

In addition to the Choice and Frontier mattresses, Logan & Cove has recently introduced a new mattress: the Pinnacle. It is their most-elite hybrid mattress with a plush feeling, excellent support, and cooling technology.

The Pinnacle offers cloud-like comfort with the help of a taller Euro-top cover and uses up to 4,802 pocketed coils and micro coils to provide pressure relief. It has six layers and it is 15 inches high. However, this all comes with a higher price tag. A twin Pinnace mattress costs $1,299, a queen costs $1,699, and king/California king costs $1,999.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Frontier mattress worth spending the extra money?

It depends what you are looking for. If you prefer a higher mattress, with excellent cooling properties and extra strong edge, then yes, many people consider it worth the extra cost.

What happens if I am not happy with my mattress?

Logan & Cove offers a sleep trial which is 365 nights. During this time, you can return the mattress and receive a full refund if it fails to meet your expectations. Note that the company asks you to use the mattress for at least 21 nights before requesting a return because your body will need time to adjust to the new mattress.

Can I get free delivery if I live in Quebec?

It depends where in Quebec you live. Most areas are free but parts of Northern Quebec will incur a fee. You can find a list of all areas where you cannot get a free delivery on the company’s website.

Where are the Logan & Cove mattresses made?

All Logan & Cove mattresses are made in Canada using locally sourced materials as much as possible.

Which is the better mattress for a tall, heavier person who sleeps hot?

If you sleep hot, the Frontier has slightly more effective cooling properties than the Choice mattress. If you are very tall, you might like the California king, which is longer than the other mattress options and it is available in either model.

The Frontier has better edge support, which can be beneficial for heavier people. Since the mattresses are rated 6.5 for firmness, they may feel too soft for heavier people, but you can consider making the bed firmer by getting a firmer topper.
