A Fully Organic Mattress Uniquely Suited To You
The Silk & Snow Organic is an organic hybrid that uses layers of latex to create a comfortable, responsive feel. There are two major selling points for this mattress: first, you can choose from three firmness options to adjust how the mattress feels for you. Second, this mattress is made with completely natural and organic materials. These materials are gathered sustainably and manufactured in only eco-conscious ways.
This mattress’s firmness options are the cornerstone of its design. While all use eco-conscious and organic materials, the firmness options change how the mattress feels. This makes the S&S Organic nearly universally appealing, with enough options to keep all sleepers comfortable regardless of how they sleep. There’s an option that will suit every Canadian when it comes to the Silk & Snow Organic.
Our Methodology
Here at Slumber, our mattress testing process is incredibly in-depth and exhaustive. We look at all parts of a mattress over several weeks. This includes multiple rounds of testing over several weeks – tests like weighted ball drop tests, motion transfer measurements, heat mapping, and more. We also look at the construction and materials in each mattress, handling them so we can give you our first-hand opinions of how they feel and how they function.
In addition to this gauntlet of tests, our group of sleep testers use the mattress at home for a while to determine how it reacts night after night. This helps us look at how the mattress performs over time, based on the reactions and comfort levels of our diverse team of sleepers. We have testers that sleep in every position and with every body type, allowing us to get a complete picture of how each mattress works.

Mattress Details
The Silk & Snow Organic is an all-natural mattress that uses organic textiles and latex to create its comfortable feel. This mattress uses only the best practices when it comes to comfort and sustainability, with ethical practices and a feel that you can tailor to your needs. Each of the three versions of this mattress – Firm, Medium Firm, or Plush – offers something that sleepers need. If you prefer a softer mattress, you can choose the softer version. Likewise, those who need a truly firm mattress can get comfortable with the Firm option.
The base of the mattress uses up to 1,200 pocketed coils to create strong support. Ergonomic support zones reduce discomfort and balance your body, keeping you from straining your joints no matter which position you sleep in. It’s easy to see why this mattress is one of the options we love best at Slumber, even if some of its performance areas scored a bit lower than we would like. In areas like support, ease of movement, edge support, and temperature control, this mattress does a great job. However, it loses a bit of its momentum when it comes to motion isolation and bounce.
Of course, performance is partly based on which firmness option you choose. The Firm and Plush versions will have different levels of pressure relief, leading to different results for a range of people. That’s another reason that we speak so highly of this mattress. No matter what you’re looking for, you can find it here. At the same time, you can reduce your carbon footprint, support the Canadian economy, and help promote eco-conscious manufacturing processes.

Silk & Snow Organic Mattress Prices and Sizes
The prices of the Silk & Snow Organic mattress options vary wildly depending on size and firmness preference. A Queen starts at $1250 and can get as expensive as $2200 with different firmness options. Of course, for this price, you get full transparency, a host of state-of-the-art features, and top-quality, certified organic materials. The Firm option is the most affordable.
The price increases with different firmness options because the softer mattresses use more materials. Each level of comfort uses multiple layers of certified materials, and each is costly to manufacture. Silk & Snow still passes the savings to you by staying online only, eliminating the same overhead costs that most businesses have.
You can purchase the Silk & Snow Organic in three firmness options, each of which offers six standard mattress sizes. There is no Split King option, so those looking for split adjustable bed solutions will need to order two Twin XL mattresses. Regardless of any choices at checkout, each mattress comes with a 365-night sleep trial and a 15-year warranty.

Mattress Construction
The Silk & Snow Organic is a hybrid mattress that uses up to six layers of materials, with different options and thicknesses based on the firmness option you choose.
- The Cover. On all three versions of the mattress, the cover is a GOTS-certified organic cotton cover. It’s extremely soft and comfortable to the touch, creating a sleeping surface that interfaces well with your sheets and other bedding. The cotton is harvested in India, and Silk & Snow takes every opportunity to adhere to the best ecological practices.
- The 1st Layer. The top layer is always a layer of GOTS-certified organic wool. This wool is quilted for additional comfort and breathability as well. While wool is naturally breathable and wicks away heat and moisture, it also acts as a natural fire retardant. Because of this layer, the rest of the mattress doesn’t have to use any additional chemicals to stay safe.
- The 2nd Layer (Medium Firm and Plush Only). In the two softer mattress versions, The second layer is 0.8” of GOLS Certified Latex. This layer adds additional support and balance, influencing how well the core layer of latex works to relieve pressure and provide comfort. It’s also quilted to improve breathability.
- The 3rd Layer. Every option has a core layer of GOLS-certified Dunlop latex. This layer is completely organic and made using the Dunlop method, which doesn’t use synthetic blends or other materials. This layer reduces strain and provides a better response from the rest of the mattress. This layer’s side differs based on the firmness option you choose. This allows the softer versions of the mattress to provide better cushion and pressure relief, which we feel are essential features in any mattress.
- Firm – 0.8” Dunlop Latex Layer.
- Medium Firm – 1.5” Dunlop Latex Layer.
- Plush – 3.5” Dunlop Latex Layer.
- The 4th Layer. The pocket coil base is zoned for better support, with firmer coils through the centre of the mattress. Each third of the mattress features a different ergonomic firmness, with the middle helping to bolster your lower back and align your body. The top and bottom thirds are softer to avoid pressure on your joints. The edges also feature extremely firm coils, reducing sagging if you sit or sleep there. Throughout this layer, the pocket coils promote better breathability.
- The 5th Layer. The final layer of foam is a layer of stabilizing foam that helps the coils keep their shape. This layer ensures that your mattress doesn’t sag over time and maintains the same comfort level throughout its lifespan.
The Silk & Snow Organic works differently than most mattresses when it comes to construction. Additional layers based on firmness, as well as different thicknesses for some layers based on firmness, make this mattress unique. Because of these changes, though, the mattress will perform differently based on the firmness option you choose. The Plush version of the mattress will have better pressure relief than the Firm option, for example.
Mattress Performance Test Results
The Silk & Snow Organic was tested using the same gauntlet we use for all of our mattresses. These tests made the Silk & Snow Organic look good most of the time, providing accurate measurements that allow us to recommend this mattress to you. Here’s how it performed in the areas we think are most important.
Temperature Control (9.1/10)
When we rate a mattress based on temperature control, there are a few different things we must take into account. First, we look at how temperature is allowed to build up within the mattress. Over time, we observe how the mattress retains heat, the highest temperatures it reaches, and how quickly it removes heat from the materials. We test for breathability as part of this gauntlet. Most sleepers can tolerate a mattress that ranks at about a 5 or a 6, but hot sleepers will need a mattress rated at 8 or higher.
The Silk & Snow Organic did well with temperature control, with a rating just above 9. This means that you’ll feel cooler throughout the night when sleeping on this mattress. Heat mapping showed us that heat built slowly on this mattress, mostly because there was no memory foam present in the mattress’s construction. Even the Plush version did okay, which means it should be comfortable enough for those who need some relief from night sweats.
Motion Isolation (7.2/10)
To test for motion isolation, we use ball drop testing to measure how well a mattress absorbs motion. We measure how much motion moves to the other side of the bed after an upset, as well as how much can be felt by our testers. Practical and simulation testing helps us determine how well a mattress performs under a variety of conditions. If you sleep light, you’ll need a mattress with a higher rating.
The Silk & Snow Organic does not do well with motion isolation. Though the softer versions of the mattress have marginally more motion isolation than the Firm model, the outlook isn’t great for any of the options here. The coils allow too much motion to transfer to the other side of the mattress, reducing the effectiveness of any motion control features within the mattress. Our testers noted that they could feel most of what was happening on the other side of the bed. Our measurements also detected lots of vibration and movement during our ball drop testing.
Edge Support (9.0/10)
Many Canadians sit or sleep near the edge of the bed. The edges of the mattress tend to be softer than the middle, making it impossible to sit comfortably without sliding off the edge. Thankfully, some mattresses use multiple technologies to improve edge support, including reinforced perimeters and stronger foams near the edge. Hybrids tend to offer better edge support than all-foam options, and a mattress rated at about a 7 on this scale is ideal for most Canadians.
The Silk & Snow Organic features strong edge support, not least because it uses a strong perimeter of edge support coils. These coils improve support at the edges to greatly reduce sinking and sagging, so you don’t feel like you are sliding off the bed when you sit on the edge. It’s hard to find a mattress that offers support like this, even among hybrids. Our testers who naturally sleep near the edge reported improved sleep overall due to this change, too.
Firmness and Feel of the Silk & Snow Organic Mattress
We rank mattresses on a firmness scale, which means we can give you a good idea of where a mattress stands for the average Canadian. We rate the softest mattresses with lower numbers. On our scale, a mattress that rates a 1 would be extremely soft, while a mattress that rates a 10 would be uncomfortably hard. We like to get specific based on the results of our contouring and sinkage tests.
The Silk & Snow Organic’s three firmness options give you a perfect spread of firmnesses to choose from. We rated them as follows:
- Firm: 7/10
- Medium Firm: 6.5/10
- Plush: 5.5/10
These ratings can inform you as to how the mattress will feel based on the average Canadian, but the mattress can feel different based on how you sleep and your body type. Regardless of these factors, our testers mostly found that the Silk & Snow Organic balanced them well, kept them aligned, and kept their lumbar discomfort in check. Based on the version they chose, they may have felt that the pressure relief was sufficient (Plush) or lacking (Firm). Across the board, the materials used within the Silk & Snow Organic mattress are unique and create a comfortable feel.
Performance for Different Weights and Sleeping Preferences
When you choose a mattress, it’s important to consider how it may feel. The way a mattress feels can change based on a few different factors, including your sleeping position and body type. The mattress you need can change drastically based on these factors.
Weight Considerations
Your body type can determine how a mattress feels for you and different body types may need different levels of support and comfort. Thankfully, the different firmness options for the Silk & Snow Organic provide all that you need. Lighter sleepers will be more comfortable on the Plush version of the mattress. The Canadian mattress industry defines a ‘lighter sleeper’ as someone weighing less than 130 pounds. Average sleepers may weigh up to 230, and heavier sleepers exceed 230 pounds.
The Plush version may provide the pressure relief heavier sleepers need, too – but it may also lead to less support, which is a problem. The Medium Firm version of the mattress is suited for most sleepers, particularly average sleepers – still, there are plenty of opportunities to test out the option you think works best. There’s also plenty of time to exchange it if you feel it doesn’t work quite like you’d hoped.
Sleeping Positions
Each sleeping position needs different things from their mattress. Thankfully, the Silk & Snow Organic’s firmness-level options provide for nearly every need. Here’s the option we recommend for each sleeping position.
- Side Sleepers. Side sleepers need pressure relief, balancing, and alignment. Mattresses for side sleepers should be supportive without adding too much pressure, with great alignment for their back and hips. We recommend that side sleepers choose the Plush version of the Silk & Snow Organic, as it provides all of these features.
- Back Sleepers. Back sleepers often prefer a plush mattress that will allow them to sink into the mattress. They need strong support, but the sinkage means that their bodies stay perfectly supported throughout the night. The Silk & Snow Organic’s Medium Firm option is great for them.
- Stomach Sleepers. Stomach sleepers need sinkage and support, but they have to be comfortable in equal measure. They need a mattress with a soft enough top for immediate pressure relief, but with enough strong support to keep them from sinking too far. Firm or Medium Firm options are ideal for stomach sleepers.
- Combo Sleepers. Above all, combination sleepers need a mattress that makes it easy to move around. The Silk & Snow mattress makes it easy to change position, especially the Firm model. However, the Medium Firm is probably a good middle ground for combination sleepers, who may need a good middle ground when it comes to comfort features as well.

Company Background
With most of its mattresses, Silk & Snow sources materials and manufacturing locally when possible. Silk & Snow is a Canadian mattress company that is interested in providing eco-conscious mattresses at a price you can afford, all while helping boost the Canadian economy. While most of the mattresses they sell are made with local materials, Silk & Snow Organic is sourced from the most optimal global locations for organic materials.
Silk & Snow offers some of the most unique and high-quality mattresses on the Canadian market, maintaining a specific level of quality while passing the savings on to you. They have showrooms in Toronto and Ottawa, so you have the opportunity to check out their mattresses, linens, bedroom furniture, and other household items before purchasing.
Silk & Snow has two additional mattresses available for purchase, including an all-foam option and the Silk & Snow Hybrid, which offers two firmness options and is one of the least expensive hybrids on the Canadian market. No matter what your budget is or what you need from a mattress, this company has you covered.
Commitment to the Environment
The materials used within the Silk & Snow Organic mattress are responsibly sourced and come from only the best ecological locations, where they can make the least amount of impact on the local environment. Silk & Snow Organic vs Other Silk & Snow Mattresses
Silk & Snow offers a total of three mattresses for Canadians. In addition to the S&S Organic, they offer the standard Silk & Snow all-foam mattress, as well as the Silk & Snow Hybrid. There is an option here for every sleeper and every budget. Here’s how the Silk & Snow Organic mattress stacks up against Silk & Snow’s other Canadian mattresses.
Silk & Snow Organic vs Silk & Snow
The Silk & Snow Mattress is an inexpensive all-foam offering that uses high-density memory foam to create better pressure relief and motion isolation than most of its competitors. At its price point, it’s a strong contender for the best memory foam mattress in Canada. This option is one of the best you can choose if you want an all-foam mattress that stands out from the crowd.
The high-density memory foam in this mattress makes it better at absorbing motion than the Organic. Though it excels in some areas where the Organic performs poorly, it’s also made with synthetic memory foams and other non-organic materials. If you want an eco-conscious mattress with lumbar support, you can’t go wrong with the Organic.
Silk & Snow Organic vs Silk & Snow Hybrid
The Silk & Snow Hybrid is one of the least expensive hybrid mattresses in Canada. This option dominates the mattress market with high-quality materials, strong coils, and a price that doesn’t break the bank. It offers many of the same features as the Silk & Snow Organic, but the materials used are not organic or natural.
The Silk & Snow Hybrid also offers different firmness options. However, there are only two options (Medium Firm and Plush) for the Hybrid. This may be a problem for those who need a firmer mattress, as only the Silk & Snow Organic offers a firmer option. When it comes to performance, the Hybrid is a little cooler, but the Organic features better pressure relief across all versions.
Competing Canadian Mattress Comparisons
Some of the top mattress companies in Canada have mattresses that could compete with Silk & Snow Organic. Here’s how it stands up to its direct competition from Simba’s 2500 mattress and the Logan & Cove Frontier Hybrid.
Silk & Snow Organic vs Simba 2500 Mattress
The Simba 2500 Mattress is a luxury hybrid that features a host of cooling and pressure relief features. It offers some of the best motion isolation you’ll find in a hybrid mattress, and uses mostly proprietary materials to create a feel you won’t find elsewhere. While most of the materials used within the Simba 2500 are organic or natural, it can’t beat S&S Organic when it comes to eco-conscious materials.
However, that doesn’t mean that it isn’t a great pick for those who have a little extra to spend. It covers a fair few areas where the Organic comes up short. However, the hybrid layer used within the Simba 2500 is conical micro-coils, which do more for pressure relief than they do for support. All versions of the Silk & Snow Organic have better support throughout the mattress.
Silk & Snow Organic vs Logan & Cove Frontier
Logan & Cove’s most luxurious mattress, the Frontier, is a hybrid with a comfortable, plush Euro-top that helps reduce pressure. This alone makes it better for pressure relief than even the Plush version of the Silk & Snow Organic. It comes at a lower price and uses some proprietary eco-conscious materials. However, it is equally bad at motion isolation. There is also no firmness option, so the medium-firm Frontier does little for those who prefer a much firmer mattress.
The Silk & Snow Organic takes the edge here if you prefer eco-conscious materials. If you need a firmer mattress, the Logan & Cove Frontier may not provide what you need to get comfortable, even if both mattresses offer great edge support and lumbar support.
Should You Buy a Silk & Snow Organic Mattress?
If you have a little more to spend and eco-conscious manufacturing and materials are important to you, we think you should buy Silk & Snow Organic. This mattress has enough options to keep most happy, even if there are some areas where it could improve. If none of these bother you, you may be pleasantly surprised to find that the mattress exceeds your expectations and goes above and beyond what you may consider normal for a mattress.
The high-quality materials, eco-conscious manufacturing, and ethical sourcing make Silk & Snow Organic an easy recommendation for us. Choose the firmness option you prefer and see how this mattress can work for you.
Highlights of the Silk & Snow Organic Mattress
Across all versions of the Silk & Snow Organic, there are a few performance areas that outshone the others. It’s always easy to move around on this mattress, for one. The temperature control and edge support are great across the board, especially when you consider that this is a hybrid mattress with no active cooling features.
As a company, Silk & Snow has great policies, a long sleep trial, and a good warranty. Plus, their commitment to the environment in this organic latex mattress is unbeatable. All of the materials are certified organic and natural where possible, excluding the pocket coils. Three distinct firmness options ensure that there is an option for each Canadian, regardless of how you sleep or what firmness you generally prefer.
Areas for Improvement
The Silk & Snow Organic Mattress performs well in most categories we tested, though performance varies greatly depending on the firmness option you choose. Regardless, all versions of this mattress could do with improvement in two major categories. Motion isolation is poor across the board, mostly due to the lack of memory foam and the extra vibration from the coil layer. Keep in mind that you will be able to feel most of the vibration from the other side of the bed, which can be difficult for you if you sleep light.
On the other hand, these mattresses also lack bounce. This may be a problem for only a small number of Canadians, but for those few, it can be a big issue. Some like to feel some feedback from their mattress when they move around. In this case, the Silk & Snow Organic mattress might not be the best choice.
Our Recommendations for the Silk & Snow Organic Mattress
Because of the wide range of firmness options, we can recommend the Silk & Snow Organic to most Canadians. You are sure to find an option that works for you, whether you prefer a plush mattress or a firm one. The benefits of each mattress change as you might expect, with the plush mattress having better pressure relief and motion isolation than the firm or medium firm options. Keep these things in mind as you make your purchase.
As we discussed above, there are a few features that are persistently poor across all versions of the mattress. If you need motion isolation to keep your partner from waking you up, or if you like a little bounce, this mattress might not be the best for you no matter which option you choose. Otherwise, sleepers of all preferences can find something they like about the Silk & Snow Organic Mattress.
FAQs
Are all parts of the Silk & Snow Organic certified to be Organic?
All of the foams, fabrics, and wool inside the Silk & Snow Organic are certified by either the GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) or the GOLS (Global Organic Latex Standard). The coils are made with steel, as this cannot be replicated organically. However, every part that can be made organically has been.
What is the weight limit of the Silk & Snow Organic?
The Silk & Snow Organic has no weight limit in any of the versions it offers. The sturdy coils allow it to support Canadians of all sizes, including those with naturally larger body types.
Which firmness option is best for side sleepers?
Side sleepers should enjoy the Medium Firm version of the Silk & Snow Organic. This option offers a good blend of support and comfort, particularly for those who need better alignment. Of course, the Plush version offers better pressure relief – but overall, the Medium Firm will suit the needs of side sleepers.
Which firmness option is best for couples?
Couples who need better motion isolation should go with the Plush version of the mattress. Though this option may be hotter, the additional comfort materials can reduce motion transfer better than the Firm or Medium Firm firmness options.
Which firmness option is best for those who sleep hot?
Those who sleep hot should choose the Silk & Snow Organic mattress in Firm. The lack of additional comfort materials at the top of the mattress allows for greater breathability overall, which means that the mattress retains less heat in this version.
Does the Silk & Snow Organic off-gas?
Because of the organic materials used within the Silk & Snow Organic, it is not supposed to off-gas as much as mattresses made with synthetic materials. However, there may still be an odour because of the coils and the materials surrounding them. The odour will be extremely light and dissipate quickly if you notice it at all.
Is the Silk & Snow Organic a better value than the Silk & Snow Hybrid?
The Silk & Snow Organic and Silk & Snow Hybrid are very different mattresses. They use different materials. They are similar because they both offer firmness options, but otherwise, they are less alike than you would think. The S&S Organic delivers a different class of materials and a performance that changes based on firmness, while the Hybrid is less expensive. Its high-quality materials are no less valid, but they aren’t as eco-conscious. You should choose the one that works best for your budget and sleep needs.
