Budget-Friendly Hybrid with Distinct Firmness Options
The Silk & Snow Hybrid is a hybrid foam and pocket coil mattress that offers some of the best pressure relief and lumbar support we could find. It comes in two distinct firmness options, including a Medium Firm and a Plush option. Even if you choose the Plush option, this mattress is remarkably inexpensive for a hybrid.
The Medium-Firm version feels slightly firmer than many other hybrid options on the Canadian market. It features a plush, quilted top, which adds a degree of softness to the mattress. The highlight of the Silk & Snow Hybrid is present in each option. The zoned support coils provide targeted support, with a specific support profile that is great for most sleepers. Reinforced edges, moderate cooling, and great performance make the Silk & Snow Hybrid stand out.
Our Methodology
At Slumber, we test our mattresses through an in-depth process that takes place over several weeks. We perform a gauntlet of tests at our test lab, which includes ball drop tests, motion transfer measurements, and an examination of each mattress’ materials and construction. Once we’ve performed our testing, we send our testers home with the mattress. Testers may use the mattress for weeks or months before giving us their in-depth feedback on how the mattress performed over time.
Our testing team is comprised of a diverse group of sleepers. We cover all sleeping positions, body types, and sleeping styles (including co-sleepers). Once we’ve received feedback from these sleepers, we consult our team of experts and researchers to develop a review of the mattress. Our results determine if we can recommend a mattress to you—and every mattress we test may not make the cut.

Mattress Details
The Silk & Snow Hybrid combines the best parts of foam and coil mattresses in one design. Made by a Canadian company, Silk & Snow has a reputation for high-quality products. This is the midline mattress option in their lineup. It is available in two firmness options, Medium Firm and Plush. The Medium Firm offers a Queen mattress for just $900, making it one of the most affordable Queens on the Canadian mattress market. While it lacks a washable cover, the hypoallergenic and antimicrobial cover works to keep bacteria at bay. This cover helps reduce the need for frequent spot cleaning, too.
Warm sleepers will find that this mattress does work to reduce temperatures, but it might not work as well as options that feature active cooling technologies. Up to 1,200 pocket coils create the core of the Silk & Snow Hybrid. These coils actively relieve pressure points, while the zoned support across the centre of the mattress is comfortable for your back and hips. Those who suffer from back pain will find that this mattress works wonders for their comfort level.
An outstanding 365-night in-home sleep trial and 15-year warranty make this an attractive option, with plenty of time to test it out at home. You can choose the option you think will work best, but it’s always possible to exchange it for the other firmness option if you find it doesn’t fit your needs. The warranty is fairly comprehensive and covers material defects, workmanship problems, and more.

Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress Sizes and Prices
Hybrid mattresses like the Silk & Snow Hybrid are typically more expensive than all-foam options. That said, it’s rare to find a hybrid mattress at this price point, especially from a premium company like Silk & Snow. The Queen version of the Medium Firm mattress is just $900, which beats the natural average of around $1,200 by a wide margin. All the perks that come with this mattress are too good to pass up at that price point.
Of course, the Plush version is more expensive due to the additional materials used. A Queen in the Plush version of the mattress is about $1,450, but it is a 14” hybrid with a ton of great performance features. The 15-year warranty makes this mattress stand out. You can return it through a simple process at any time during the 365-night sleep trial if you find that it isn’t for you.
Both versions of the mattress are available in all six standard mattress sizes, which makes it ideal for Canadian households. This mattress isn’t available in Split King, which might be a problem for those who use split adjustable beds.

Mattress Construction
The Silk & Snow Hybrid’s two firmness options offer vastly different constructions, each with its benefits to help you sleep easier. Since they are so different, we’ll break down how each mattress is made and what materials it contains.
Medium-Firm Silk & Snow Hybrid
- The Cover. The cover of the Silk & Snow Hybrid is made of antimicrobial and hypoallergenic polyester. It inhibits the growth of bacteria to reduce odours and staining. This is more important than ever since the cover cannot be removed or washed. We recommend using a mattress protector with this mattress.
- The 1st Layer. While the overall mattress is on the firmer side, this 1” top layer provided slight softness and was made from cooling gel foam. We found it did a good job keeping temperatures low, even in the warmer summer months. Quilted with hollow fibre fill, this layer is moderately plush while still being supportive.
- The 2nd Layer. A 2” high-density gel memory foam is in the middle of the Silk & Snow Hybrid, giving the mattress great pressure relief for aching joints. Side sleepers will find that their hips and shoulders have cushioned support and will enjoy restorative sleep.
- The 3rd Layer. This 9” thick foundational layer houses up to 1,200 pocket coils, which are quiet, supportive and breathable. The zoned coils uniquely support those with back issues, as well as provide excellent motion isolation for couples. Surrounding the base are reinforced extra storing coils that ensure the edge of the bed stays firm without breaking down over time.
Plush Silk & Snow Hybrid
- The Cover. The cover of the plush version of this mattress is much the same as the Medium-firm option. The antimicrobial fabric is the same. However, there are multiple layers quilted right into the cover.
- Cooling Fabric. A layer of cooling fabric is quilted right into the cover, created to draw heat and moisture away from your body. This cooling fabric is Silk & Snow’s proprietary infused blend.
- Quilted Foam. A thin layer of high-quality memory foam is quilted to the top, creating a sleeping surface that is plush enough to help you fall asleep quickly.
- The 1st Layer. A layer of high-density memory foam is the first layer of the mattress itself. This comfortable layer has deep pressure point relief, reducing discomfort throughout the sleep environment. We found that this layer was effective for most that usually suffered from pressure points.
- The 2nd Layer. Another 2” layer of high-density foam (polyfoam, this time) makes the core of the mattress more comfortable. It helps assist in the transition from one material to another. Without this responsive layer of foam, some users may be able to feel the firmer coils below. This layer also adds some responsiveness and deeper pressure relief than the layers at the top of the mattress.
- The 3rd Layer. The final layer within the mattress is 8” of zoned, pocketed coils. There are up to 1200 coils within this layer, which can limit some motion transfer and help align your spine. This layer includes firmer coils throughout the centre of the mattress and along the edges, so it offers better lumbar support and edge support.
The Silk & Snow Hybrid is extremely supportive due to the firm coil base. You’ll find better support for your hips and lumbar no matter which position you prefer to sleep in. A plush, quilted top makes for a comfortable sleeping surface, with strong support from below. Only the plush version uses active cooling features, which means that this mattress might not be for you if you sleep extremely hot.
Mattress Performance Test Results
The Silk & Snow Hybrid was tested against all types of mattresses, including other hybrids, innerspring, and all-foam mattresses. The three layers of foam and coils within the Silk & Snow Hybrid gave it a unique feel that was comfortable and supportive.
Note that some performance metrics may vary based on the firmness option you choose. That said, here is how it performed:
Temperature Control (8.9/10)
Our temperature control ratings are based on how well the mattress reduces higher temperatures. Mattresses that use foam are known to retain heat, so we test for breathability and cooling capabilities within each mattress. If the mattress includes cooling technology, we look at how effective it is at keeping you cool throughout the night. Most sleepers can tolerate a mattress with a temperature control rating of 5 out of 10, but extremely hot sleepers will need a mattress that falls higher than a 7 on our rating scale.
The Silk & Snow Hybrid ranks at about 8.9 when it comes to temperature control. It works a bit better than an all-foam mattress but doesn’t use many active cooling features. While the Medium Firm option uses cooling gel foam, the Plush version uses cooling material at the surface of the mattress to reduce higher temperatures. Both should be comfortable enough for those seeking moderate heat relief. However, neither version is ideal for those who suffer from night sweats or regularly sleep hot.
Motion Isolation (9.2/10)
Our team uses ball drop testing to see just how well a mattress absorbs the motion. We measure how much motion transfers to the other side of the bed during these tests. We have our reviewers test the mattresses at home for an extended period, especially those who co-sleep. A mattress with a score of at least 7 on our scale will help you sleep better when your partner is tossing and turning.
A combination of high-density gel foam and the coil foundation work together to ensure great motion isolation. We found that very little motion transferred to the other side of the mattress. Our testers reported that they stayed asleep when their partners got in and out of bed. In our ball drop tests, barely any motion rippled outward from the point of impact. With those results, we can confidently say that the Silk & Snow Hybrid is a great option for couples. The Plush version may reduce a little more motion than the Medium Firm, but both are effective.
Edge Support (9.7/10)
Many Canadians sit or sleep near the edge of the bed. It may sink or sag over time. The edge may lack the same support level as the rest of the mattress. All-foam mattresses often lack good edge support, but hybrids do a little better. A mattress with a rating of at least a 7 on our scale offers better edge support than the standard all-foam mattress.
The Silk & Snow Hybrid has superior edge support when compared to other Silk & Snow Mattresses. It uses extra-strong steel coils around the perimeter of the mattress to prevent sinking or sagging. You’ll feel comfortable at the edge of the mattress. For those seeking a mattress with great edge-to-edge support and firmness, it’s hard to find a mattress with better results than this one.
Firmness and Feel of the S&S Hybrid Mattress
When we test mattresses, we rank their firmness on a scale of 1 to 10. A mattress that ranks 1 is extremely soft, and one ranking 10 is extremely firm. We determine firmness by checking each mattress’s manufacturer-assigned ranking, as well as performing our own sinkage and contouring tests.
The Silk & Snow Hybrid mattress offers two firmnesses. The Medium Firm is about a 7 out of 10, while the Plush is around a 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale. We looked at how each performed in different sleeping positions and found that both offered more support than expected. The softer top on the Plush version offered better pressure relief, while the firmer top of the Medium Firm helped with different support needs.
This mattress stands out when it comes to lumbar support and alignment. It balances your body well, providing adequate support for your hips and lower back. You can feel the difference when lying on this mattress. It’s particularly obvious for side sleepers and those who usually suffer from lower back pain, as better alignment is immediately obvious.
Performance for Different Weights and Sleeping Preferences
Two of the biggest factors to consider when choosing a mattress are your weight and sleeping position. These factors can change how a mattress feels to you. Our testing process and ranking system consider these things to help us recommend a mattress to you. Here’s what we found through testing the Silk & Snow Hybrid.
Weight Considerations
Lighter sleepers (those weighing less than 230 pounds) will be comfortable on the Silk & Snow Hybrid. It’s great for average sleepers regardless of sleeping position. It offers deep sinkage, which helps with alignment and pressure relief. Our lighter sleepers found that they engaged only with the comfort foam within the mattress and didn’t feel the coils at all. It tested remarkably well for a mattress with a thick coil layer.
However, our heavier testers sometimes had issues. Our testers who weighed over 230 pounds found that they sank through the layers of foam and sometimes felt the hard press of the coils. This may lead to pressure relief issues in the long term. The mattress may break down faster for heavier users, and they may not sleep as well. While the Plush option can stave off some of these concerns, these issues may still appear in the long run.
Sleeping Positions
Canadians in different sleeping positions require different levels of support. Understanding how you sleep is the first step to finding a mattress that will work for you. Here’s how the Silk & Snow Hybrid tested with each different sleeping position.
- Side Sleepers. The Silk & Snow Hybrid has a lot of sinkage, which may make it a good choice for side sleepers. However, it doesn’t offer the pressure relief to match, which may be an issue for some Canadians. Heavier side sleepers may appreciate the additional alignment and lumbar support, but the pressure might be noticeable for them.
- Back Sleepers. Back sleepers need a softer mattress with more contouring, so they may want to consider the Plush version of the Silk & Snow Hybrid. Surprisingly, our testers who slept on their backs found that the Medium Firm version was also comfortable for the most part. It contoured to their body and reduced some pressure. Average-sized back sleepers didn’t feel the firm coil layer below, either. It was firm enough for alignment without being too firm for comfort.
- Stomach Sleepers. The Silk & Snow Hybrid tested well for average-sized stomach sleepers. Heavier stomach sleepers experienced a lot of uncomfortable sinking and alignment issues. Those weighing less than 230 pounds had the best experience, as the mattress was just soft enough to be comfortable without losing support.
- Combo Sleepers. Combination sleepers need a mattress that makes it easy to switch positions throughout the night. Unfortunately, the Silk & Snow Hybrid’s sinkage level makes it a little more difficult to move around on than Silk & Snow’s other mattresses. Lighter combination sleepers should be fine, but average and heavier combination sleepers may feel stuck in the mattress.

Company Background
Silk & Snow is a Canadian company that has been making mattresses since 2017. While a slight newcomer to the market, they are known for having high-quality products that are responsibly sourced and, when possible, eco-friendly. They have a showroom in Toronto and Ottawa, and they also make bedroom furniture and household linens.
In addition to the hybrid mattress, Silk & Snow offers an original all-foam option and a luxury organic latex mattress. No matter your price point or sleep needs, Silk & Snow has created a product line that will appeal to everyone.
Commitment to the Environment
Silk & Snow commits to eco-conscious manufacturing, as well as responsible sourcing. They only work with manufacturers who follow responsible manufacturing processes. All their materials are collected sustainably, too. As a company, they’ve aligned with Veritree to preserve Canada’s natural forests. You can add a donation to plant a tree at checkout.
You can easily see where all the materials used in each Silk & Snow product are sourced from, too. Silk & Snow provides transparency to their customers. Each product page has a list of materials and where they come from, so you always know what your mattress is made of.
S&S Hybrid vs Other Silk & Snow Mattresses
Silk & Snow offers a few different choices for Canadian sleepers. We love that there is an option that works for everyone, from heavier sleepers to those who want a simpler mattress. Here’s how the S&S Hybrid compares to other mattresses from Silk & Snow’s mattress catalogue.
S&S Hybrid vs S&S Mattress
The Silk & Snow mattress is the company’s flagship model. It’s an all-foam mattress that knocks most performance tests out of the park. Budget-friendly pricing, great pressure relief, and outstanding motion isolation make the original Silk & Snow a monolith when it comes to mattresses in a box. It also comes with the same great policies that make the Silk & Snow Hybrid mattress stand out.
The Silk & Snow mattress uses a high-density foam core rather than the pocket coils used in the S&S Hybrid. This means it doesn’t have the same lumbar support but offers better pressure relief in exchange. Heavier users might have trouble with the Silk & Snow mattress but might find comfort in the stronger support and firmer feel of the Silk & Snow Hybrid.
S&S Hybrid vs S&S Organic Mattress
The Silk & Snow Organic Mattress is the company’s fully organic and eco-conscious model. This hybrid features the same strong coils as the S&S Hybrid. The rest of the mattress is made with sustainably sourced materials, layers made without chemicals, and certified organic materials. It is available in three different firmness options, including the Firm base model, Medium Firm, and Plush.
While eco-conscious Canadians may want to choose the Silk & Snow Organic, many of the same features are present in the Silk & Snow Hybrid. Both have zoned lumbar support, strong edge support, and great pressure relief. The Silk & Snow Hybrid sleeps a little cooler, but both perform pretty well over all of their firmness options and configurations.
Competing Canadian Mattress Comparisons
How does the Silk & Snow Hybrid stack up to mattresses from competing companies? Here, we’ll look at how it compares to two popular hybrid mattresses, the Endy Hybrid and the Logan & Cove Frontier.
Silk & Snow Hybrid vs Endy Hybrid
The Endy Hybrid provides strong, zoned coils, great edge support, and layers of comfortable materials. The open-cell foam helps keep you cool but doesn’t do as great a job when it comes to motion isolation as we would like. Plus, the Endy Hybrid is more expensive when you compare it to the Medium Firm version of the mattress.
Endy Hybrid features stronger coils around the coil support base for edge support, which is comparable to the edge support offered by the Silk & Snow Hybrid. Even though the S&S sleeps warmer than most hybrid mattresses, it’s still a little cooler than the Endy Hybrid.
Silk & Snow Hybrid vs Logan & Cove Frontier
The Logan & Cove Frontier is a luxury hybrid that uses dual coil layers and proprietary foams to create a unique feel. This mattress is cool and comfortable, with an integrated Euro-top and micro-coil layer that is meant to cradle your body and provide outstanding pressure relief.
The Silk & Snow Hybrid tests comparably to the Logan & Cove Frontier when it comes to pressure relief and edge support. The S&S Hybrid wins when it comes to motion isolation and price. While the Logan & Cove Frontier doesn’t have the price tag of many other luxury hybrids, it’s still much more expensive than the Silk & Snow Hybrid.
Should You Buy the Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress?
The Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress is a solid choice for any Canadian who needs a firmer mattress with lumbar support. We loved the zoned coils and how comfortable this mattress was for multiple sleeping positions. It didn’t do as well with pressure relief as some other mattresses, but we think that side sleepers will still be okay with this option (especially the Plush version). Couples and those who sleep near the edge of the bed will be pleased with the level of motion isolation this mattress offers.
Overall, we were impressed with this solid mattress. We highly recommend it to Canadians needing back and edge support. Plus, the way you can choose the firmness level you prefer offers some great options that are otherwise missing from other hybrids on the Canadian market.
Highlights of the S&S Hybrid Mattress
The Silk & Snow Hybrid mattress performed extremely well in most of our testing areas. We really loved the feel of this mattress, which was immediately plush when we laid down. The motion isolation was top-notch, even for our testers with extremely restless partners. In all our ball drop tests, we noted only minimal motion transfer to the other side of the bed. The strong lumbar support made all the difference for testers who usually wake up with aches.
One of the biggest highlights for us was the brand’s transparency. You can see where each material used within the mattress comes from. Silk & Snow is devoted to using sustainable materials and production methods. On each mattress’s product page, they are clear about where each part of the mattress is made and where the materials are sourced from. This, as well as their donation directive for mattress returns, makes Silk & Snow one of the best Canadian mattress companies for the environment.
Areas for Improvement
A large portion of the Canadian public sleeps hot, which puts the Silk & Snow Hybrid mattress at a disadvantage. While the materials are breathable, it doesn’t have active cooling features. This significantly impacted our testing for temperature control. While this is a common issue with all-foam mattresses, we expected better cooling results from a hybrid model.
The mattress could also be thicker. The 8” hybrid coil layer makes up most of the mattress, leaving little room for comfort layers. The support remains strong throughout, so this won’t be an issue for most Canadians. Heavier sleepers may want to choose a thicker mattress, though. This shorter height and thinner comfort layers make it perform a little worse in pressure relief than we generally like to see.
Our Recommendations for the Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress
The Silk & Snow Hybrid mattress performed well in most areas, but was lacking when it came to pressure relief, with some lacking temperature control for hotter sleepers. Both can be issues in mattresses that use foam. This mattress performed better with temperature control than all-foam mattresses without active cooling features, though.
The price of this mattress is lower than most other hybrids on the Canadian market. It is comparable to most all-foam options when it comes to price. The Medium Firm version of the mattress is one of the least expensive hybrids, while the more luxurious Plush version gives you another option if you choose it. Considering the high-quality materials used in the production of these mattresses, the value for your money cannot be understated. We liked this mattress for couples, back sleepers, and side sleepers most of all. Those on a budget and users who need additional lumbar support will find that this mattress meets their needs.
FAQs
Is the Silk & Snow Hybrid good for edge sleepers?
With its built-in steel coil perimeter, the Silk & Snow Hybrid mattress is a great pick for those who sleep on the edge of the bed. While many mattresses break down over time, this hybrid offers a strong edge support system that helps keep the original shape of the mattress despite sitting and sitting on the edge. While it doesn’t affect the overall comfort or feel of the mattress, these strong coils do a great job of support no matter where you sleep on the bed.
Where in Canada will the Silk & Snow mattress ship?
Silk & Snow is a Canadian company that ships their mattresses across the country. If you live in more remote areas of Canada, such as in the Territories then you can expect to pay a shipping fee. For most addresses within Canada however, shipping of a Silk & Snow mattress is free.
Are bed-in-a-box mattresses hard to set up?
Each Silk & Snow mattress comes shipped right to your doorstep in a slim box. Setting up the mattress is not hard, but it can be easier to carry and lift the mattress with two people. Once unboxed, unroll the mattress onto a firm sleeping surface and cut away the compressed plastic wrapping. Full expansion of a Silk & Snow mattress can take 24 hours, but it typically expands in just a few hours.
Is the Silk & Snow Hybrid good for warm sleepers?
Many Canadians sleep hot, and a mattress without proper temperature control can result in poor sleep. The Silk & Snow Hybrid has a layer of cooling foam that regulates mattress temperature and keeps moderately warm sleepers cool. Those who sleep hot, though, may want to choose a mattress with more active cooling fabrics and materials.
How long is the Silk & Snow sleep trial?
A Silk & Snow sleep trial is 365 nights long, which is one of the longest in Canada. You will have plenty of time to decide if Silk & Snow is the right choice for you. If you decide to return it, their customer service is excellent and will walk you through how to get a refund.
Is the Silk & Snow Hybrid mattress expensive?
The Silk & Snow Hybrid’s price varies wildly, with a range of between $700 and $1,700. On the lower end, the Medium Firm version of the mattress is one of the least expensive hybrids with a Queen coming in at $900. The Plush version is more expensive, but the materials are extremely high-quality regardless.
