Casper Snow Mattress Review

Extreme Cooling with a Luxury Feel

The Casper Snow is a luxury hybrid that uses multiple cooling technologies to completely dispel heat throughout the night. Mattresses rarely receive cooling scores this high from our testing team, but most of them were blown away by how cool this mattress stayed throughout the night. If staying cool at night is the one feature you look for above all else, this mattress could be a great investment for you.

Additionally, this hybrid is good for edge sleepers and those who need pressure relief. Below, we’ll look at all the areas where this mattress beats the competition, as well as the areas where it could improve.

Our Methodology

At Slumber, testing mattresses is an in-depth process that involves several rounds of testing. We look at the construction and materials used within the mattress first, and then we put it through a gauntlet of tests that determine how well it performs. We use ball drop testing, heat mapping, and practical testing with our team of testers to determine how it works for various sleepers in a range of circumstances.

Once we have all of the information on a mattress, we compare scores and experiences to agree on how a mattress is likely to react. We average the scores we have to achieve a composite score that keeps all of the experiences and testing feedback in mind.

Mattress Details

The Casper Snow is one of Casper’s most luxurious mattresses. It offers all of the support available in a hybrid, with memory foam comfort and deep sinkage. This medium mattress might be perfect for you if you need a softer top and firmer support, such as stomach sleepers and some side sleepers.

Three layers of foam are just the start of this mattress’s construction. There are also proprietary HeatDelete bands nestled in the middle of the mattress to reduce heat, as well as a coating of phase-changing materials over the top layer of the mattress. In addition to the active cooling measures in the foam, these materials help the mattress vent heat off expertly.

You’ll find that this mattress offers top-notch cooling, pressure relief, and edge support. It does isolate some motion, and those who don’t need a ton of motion isolation should be fine. However, the one area where it could improve is response. The materials are softer and more contouring, but they also make the mattress harder to move around on because they are slow to reform.

Casper Snow Mattress Prices and Sizes

The Casper Snow is a luxury hybrid that offers great cooling potential. Due to the material used, the price is increased when compared to other hybrids on the Canadian market. Still, when compared to other mattresses in this price range, it offers increased performance and a great deal of additional features.

Casper Snow is available in all six standard mattress sizes, ranging from Twin to California King. The price for this 12” mattress starts at $2,199, with a Queen priced at $2,999. If you need a Split King option for your split adjustable bed frame, two Twin XL mattresses will get the job done.

Mattress Construction

The Casper Snow is made of three layers of standard foam, with multiple layers that feature coatings or additional materials between layers.

  • The Cover: The cover of the Casper Snow is a new technology for the company. This QuickCool cover works to remove heat 20% faster than the standard cover. This means that your bed is always cool and refreshing. The phase-changing materials used in this cover help reduce temperatures drastically.
  • The 1st Layer: The first layer of foam provides the ultimate performance fo rthis mattress. It’s extremely responsive and cool. The foam is perforated to allow for better airflow, with hundreds of perforations acting like tiny vents. This layer is also coated with a phase-changing material right at the top that maintains the same temperature throughout the night.
  • The 2nd Layer: Between the first layer and this transition layer are HeatDelete bands, bands of phase-changing materials that pull heat away from you. These bands are meant to work for 12+ hours, reducing heat every time they detect that temperatures are rising. The transition layer is a cradling premium memory foam that enhances pressure relief. It’s also zoned for better alignment and support across your back and hips.
  • The 3rd Layer: The final layer at the core of the mattress is a layer of Flex Coils, which are individually pocketed to promote better airflow and pressure relief. These coils are extremely supportive, reducing strain by keeping you aligned and offering the right amount of support where you need it most. Surrounding the coils is an encasement of firm edge support foam, so the support doesn’t disappear at the edges of the mattress.

This construction is extremely special because of the multiple cooling features stacked into the foams. HeatDelete bands, a coating of phase-changing materials, and perforated foams work together to reduce heat throughout the mattress. These materials are why the mattress performs so well when it comes to temperature control.

Mattress Performance Test Results

We scored this mattress (and all of our mattresses) based on testing scores, feedback, expert opinion, and more. All of our experiences with the mattress were aggregated into a single score to give you the best idea of how the mattress performs.

Temperature Control (10/10)

If you sleep hot, you aren’t alone. Many Canadians sleep hot, wake up due to night sweats, or are soaked in sweat in the morning. If this is what you are experiencing with your current mattress, you need an option that uses active cooling features. Many mattresses implement these features to reduce discomfort, leading to better outcomes and more restful sleep. A rating of at least an 8 out of 10 in these category is essential for those who sleep hot.

The Casper Snow is one of the only mattresses we’ve tested that received a perfect cooling score. It uses a host of materials to reduce temperatures, and they work together perfectly. Many of these materials are present right at the top of the mattress to fight extreme heat and discomfort. Our heat mapping tests showed that heat was dealt with quickly, allowing the mattress to remain a constant temperature throughout the night. Even our hottest testers reported that they woke without sweating or overheating, which is a huge win for this mattress.

Motion Isolation (8.5/10)

If you share a bed with a restless partner, you may need better motion isolation to stay comfortable. Most mattresses feature a lot of movement, which can lead to excessive vibration and shaking when your partner tosses, turns, or gets out of bed. Thankfully, some options use materials that absorb motion, reduce shaking, and leave you undisturbed no matter how your partner moves. A rating of 6 here is okay for Canadians who don’t wake up easily, but 7.5 or higher is essential for lighter sleepers and those with restless partners.

Casper Snow didn’t get the worst score in motion isolation, but it didn’t perform as well as we thought either. This mattress isolates some motion, reducing vibrations from larger movements and keeping you comfortable on the other side of the bed. However, our testers could still feel larger movements, such as a partner getting out of bed, and the vibration was somewhat disruptive. This mattress might be fine for most Canadians, but trying it for yourself is the only way you’ll be able to tell if it offers the right level of motion isolation for you.

Edge Support (9.5/10)

It’s common to sit or sleep near the edge of the bed, and it’s just as common to lose support here. Foam mattresses, especially, feature less support at the edges because the foams expand, sink, and sag when you compress them. Hybrid mattresses are sometimes better at this, and can be more comfortable to sit or sleep on. A rating of 7 or so in this performance category is fine for most, but those who need extreme edge support should look for higher scores.

When it comes to edge support, the Casper Snow performs extremely well. Like most hybrids, it offers firmer edges in the form of a perimeter of edge support foam. This foam is firmer, allowing you to sit without much sinkage. Our testers who tend to sleep at the edge also noticed that the support didn’t really drop off here, despite what they expected. Overall, this mattress is great for those who need their edges to stay firm.

Firmness and Feel of the Casper Snow Mattress

We rank all of our mattresses on a scale of 1 to 10 concerning firmness. A mattress that ranks close to 1 is soft, while a mattress ranking close to 10 is extremely firm. The Casper Snow is about a 5.5 on our firmness scale, making it a truly medium mattress in feel.

This medium ranking is mostly because of how soft and comfortable the comfort layers are. These comfort layers act like memory foam even if they aren’t made with memory foam exclusively, hugging your body and reducing strain. Meanwhile, the strong coils below help maintain support and keep you aligned.

Firmness Chart 5.5
The Casper Snow rates at about a 5.5 on our firmness scale.

Heavier sleepers may sink through the comfort layers because of how soft they are. The mattress is also less responsive than your standard hybrid mattress, which means that moving around on the mattress can be a bit difficult. This is due to the deeper sinkage and a lack of quick response from the materials. Keep these things in mind before you buy.

Performance for Different Weights and Sleeping Preferences

A mattress will feel different for every sleeper, mostly depending on a few key factors. These factors include your body type and how you sleep. We have testers of every body type and sleeping position, so we looked at how the mattress performed for each of them. Let’s see how your body type and sleeping position can affect how comfortable a mattress is.

Weight Considerations

The materials within a mattress will react differently based on how much you weigh. A lighter sleeper may not get the same pressure relief benefits due to not sinking far enough into the mattress. At the same time, those who weigh more (usually more than 230 pounds according to the mattress industry) may sink too far. This can lead to uncomfortable pressure points and trouble sleeping on the mattress.

The soft comfort layers in the Casper Snow make it comfortable for most users. Heavier sleepers may be able to feel a bit more pressure because of the way the memory foam works. Heavier sleepers may also have a harder time moving around on this mattress and getting out of bed because of the deep sinkage level.

However, the coils are extremely supportive and can help with strain and discomfort at your joints, especially if you are a side sleeper. The comfor layers are on the thinner side, but they are plush enough that it may still be comfortable for most Canadians.

Sleeping Positions

How you sleep can determine how a mattress feels for you, especially because each sleeping position requires a different level of support. Pressure relief and comfort also play a part in how a mattress feels for most sleepers, so it’s important to take this into account before purchasing a mattress.  Here’s how the mattress worked for our sleepers in each sleeping position.

  • Side Sleepers: Side sleepers need alignment and support more than any other sleeping position. Since they spend so much time with their shoulders and hips pressed into the mattress, they need a bed that will relieve pressure and allow them to wake up without discomfort. The Casper Snow is a thinner mattress, but the materials are plush enough to keep you comfortable. Heavier side sleepers may have some issues, but most will be fine.
  • Back Sleepers: Back sleepers need a mattress that contours to their bodies, reducing pressure and discomfort to avoid stiffness and aches. The deep sinkage of the Casper Snow can be good for some back sleepers, but it may also mean a lack of support for others.
  • Stomach Sleepers: Stomach sleepers require a softer mattress that is firmly supported. Their backs can sometimes be forced into uncomfortable positions if they don’t have the proper support. The Casper Snow is soft enough for stomach sleepers, but the support from the coils may not be enough to balance it out. Lighter stomach sleepers will do great on this mattress.
  • Combination Sleepers: Combination sleepers need to move around more than others, as they often move from position to position to remain comfortable. Unfortunately, the Casper Snow isn’t easy to move around on. The deeper sinkage means reduced ease of movement, leaving combination sleepers stuck in one position through the night.

Delivery, Sleep Trials, & Returns

Though Casper is based in the US, all Canadian mattresses (and mattresses sold here) come from Canadian warehouses. This means they ship quickly and will arrive at your home usually within the same week. The delivery time is 3 to 7 business days after shipping, which occurs quickly from your nearest warehouse. Shipping is free to most locations, with some exceptions in the Canadian territories.

In these remote locations, delivery may take longer and require a fee. To see if your address requires a delivery fee, you can contact Casper’s friendly customer support team. Returns are free to most locations during your sleep trial, and all used mattresses are donated when possible.

Your sleep trial is the first 100 nights that you own your mattress. You can use this time to try a mattress to see if it works for you. You’ll need to keep it for the first 30 nights to allow your body to adjust, but you can initiate a return any time between night 31 and night 99. Returns are easy, and Casper will schedule a courier to pick up your mattress. You need to be home for this pick up time. After your return is completed, you’ll get a full refund. Company Background

Though Casper hit the mattress scene more recently than time-tested brands like Serta or Sleep Number, it’s quickly become one of the most popular mattress bands that is available online. The difference between Casper and other online bed in a box retailers is their showrooms and physical mattress stores. You can purchase a mattress from them online, and it will be shipped like a normal bed in a box mattress. You can also go to their showroom and purchase a mattress the traditional way.

This can be valuable for some Canadians, especially those who want to see the mattress before they buy it. There are benefits to each option, but Casper’s reputation should help you decide. They are known for creating high-quality mattresses at a range of price points, from more affordable options to luxury mattresses that stand up to our multiple rounds of intense and scrutinous testing.

Commitment to the Environment

The materials used in most of Casper’s mattresses are CertiPUR-US certified. The covers are OEKO-TEX certified for the most part, and some of the more luxurious mattresses use covers made from recycled plastic bottles. While these features are certainly compelling, Casper has no official stance on the environment or eco-conscious practices.

Casper Snow vs Other Casper Mattresses

Casper offers a wide range of mattress options to help you sleep better, and the Casper Snow is just one of them. Even among other hybrids, this mattress stands out in the lineup. Here, we’ll see how it stacks up to two of Casper’s most popular mattresses, the Casper Original Hybrid and the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow.

Casper Snow vs Casper Original Hybrid

Full view of the Casper Original Hybrid Mattress
Full view of the Casper Original Hybrid Mattress

The Casper Original Hybrid is one of Casper’s original mattresses. This option is more affordable than the Snow and offers the same flex coil base that keeps you well-supported and comfortable. There are a few features that present differently here, notably response and motion transfer. The Casper Original Hybrid uses a firmer memory foam and presents as a firmer mattress, too.

In terms of performance, there are some trade-offs. One is not necessarily better than the other, but it depends on which features you prioritize. The Snow is cooler and has better motion isolation, but the Original Hybrid has better response time and is easier to move around. They have similar levels of edge support and pressure relief, so you should choose based on the features that you find most important.

Casper Snow vs Casper Wave Hybrid Snow

A closer look at the unique layers used in the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow
A closer look at the unique layers used in the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow

Casper Wave Hybrid Snow is another cooling hybrid that uses layers of proprietary materials, but it is more aggressive when it comes to support. Really, this mattress uses a different approach to cooling and support, which may make it a better option for some. Gel pods, zoned foam, and foam that is thicker in some places makes this option appealing for those who have more to spend.

The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow performs well, though there are some trade-off features. For example, the Wave Hybrid Snow has better support and response, so it’s easier to move around. It also has bette pressure relief. These features come at the cost of edge support and temperature control, both of which are better in the Casper Snow. The Casper Snow is also less expensive than the Wave Hybrid Snow. .

Competing Canadian Mattress Comparisons

As a brand that sells mattresses in Canada, Casper has some stiff competition. Here, we’ll look at how the Casper Snow compares to other popular hybrids, including the Logan & Cove Choice and the Endy Hybrid.

Casper Snow vs Logan & Cove Choice

Logan & Cove Choice mattress in a bedroom
Logan & Cove Choice mattress in a bedroom

Logan & Cove’s Choice mattress is their lower-tier option. Though it occupies the space at the bottom of their lineup, it still outperforms many hybrids on the Canadian market. It also has many of the same issues that plague hybrids, though it is made with high-quality materials and is categorized as a luxury hybrid mattress.

Compared to the Casper Snow, the Logan & Cove Choice is better in some performance areas. It offers marginally better edge support and much better response, but this comes at the cost of motion isolation. The Choice is one of the worst-performing mattresses for motion isolation that we’ve tested, and the Casper Snow makes up for it with moderate motion isolation. Snow also performs better with pressure relief and temperature control, though it lacks the level of response you’ll find in the Choice.

Casper Snow vs Endy Hybrid

Performance testing the Endy Hybrid mattress
Performance testing the Endy Hybrid mattress

Endy Hybrid is one of the most affordable hybrid mattresses available in Canada. Even though it costs a fraction of the price of most luxury hybrids, it doesn’t perform significantly worse. The thinner comfort layers mean more pressure for heavier sleepers, but this mattress performs on a comparable level in almost every way.

However, the Casper Snow performs better in most categories. It offers better motion isolation (a big issue with the Endy Hybrid), better edge support, and even temperature control. However, the Casper Snow isn’t very responsive. The Endy Hybrid performs almost perfectly in our responsiveness testing, meaning that it’s easy to move around on the mattress regardless of how you sleep.

Should You Buy the Casper Snow Mattress?

Casper Snow performs extremely well in a few target areas. If you need a mattress specifically for cooling and support, this is definitely one you should consider buying. However, the price point may be enough to scare off some potential customers. If you have the extra to spend and want a mattress that helps reduce night sweats and overheating, you should definitely buy this mattress. The 100-night sleep trial is risk-free, so there’s no reason not to.

Highlights of the Casper Snow Mattress

Casper Snow is, for the most part, a comfortable mattress with deep sinkage and outstanding pressure relief. The most obvious highlight is cooling. Phase-changing materials in multiple layers throughout the mattress work to completely neutralize heat, making a cool sleep surface for the majority of Canadians. If you sleep hot, this is a mattress to consider. It also features good pressure relief and notable edge support, so those who value these features will feel great on this mattress as well.

Areas for Improvement

There are a couple of areas where the Casper Snow could improve, though this mattress already performs pretty well. The most pressing issue we found with this mattress was the slow response time. The materials take nearly four times as long to spring back after you move away. While this may be good for pressure relief, it isn’t great for those who want to change positions or need to shift around to get comfortable.

Our Recommendations for the Casper Snow Mattress

We recommend the Casper Snow to most sleepers, especially those that sleep hot. The temperature control score is simply too hard to ignore for us to say otherwise. However, this mattress is best for average sleepers who don’t move around a lot. It’s also good for edge sleepers, side sleepers, and those who need pressure relief. If you want the feel of memory foam with the support of hybrid coils, this mattress will tick all of your boxes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Casper Snow good for hot sleepers?

This is one of the best mattresses on the market for hot sleepers. It receives a near-perfect cooling score from us, which we’ve almost never considered giving. If you sleep hot, this is definitely the mattress for you.

Is the Casper Snow easy to set up?

The Casper Snow is just as easy to set up as most bed in a box mattresses. You only have to put the rolled mattress on a foundation and cut the plastic. Unroll the mattress and it will slowly resume its original size and intended level of support.

Is the Casper Snow compatible with adjustable bed frames?

The Casper Snow can be used with adjustable bed frames. The coils flex, creating a surface that is supportive and comfortable. However, there is no Split King option available on Casper’s website. You would have to purchase two Twin XL mattresses to achieve the same results.

Can the Casper Snow accommodate heavy sleepers?

The Casper Snow doesn’t have a weight limit, but the comfort layers may be a bit too thin for some heavier sleepers. If you do choose to use this mattress as a heavier sleeper, know that there’s no weight limit that would void your warranty if exceeded.

What certifications does the Casper Snow have?

The materials used within the Casper Snow are CertiPUR-US certified, and the cover is OEKO-TEX certified. This means they have been tested to have high-quality materials and contain no harmful chemicals.
