Scoring Our Luxury Mattresses

We scored our mattresses based on several features and scores. We looked at scores from our rounds of testing, factored in professional opinions from our experts, and looked at feedback from our team of testers. These factors together informed our scores.

How We Tested Our Luxury Mattresses

The best luxury mattresses in Canada were tested in much the same way as we test most of our mattresses. We performed several rounds of testing, which included practical tests with our team of testers. We also looked at simulation tests, which used equipment to measure outcomes based on a range of circumstances that might occur during use.

How We Chose the Best Luxury Mattresses in Canada

The mattresses that made our list of the best luxury mattresses in Canada were selected from dozens of options. These mattresses performed the best in most categories, especially in categories that mattered most to Canadian buyers. We chose our mattresses based on our composite scores, rounds of testing, and material quality as well.

  • Motion Isolation: 10/10
  • Edge Support: 9.7/10
  • Pressure Relief: 10/10
  • Bounce: 7.5/10
  • Eco: 9.3/10

  • Ease of Movement: 9.9/10
  • Policies: 10/10

Highlights

  • Outstanding performance in most categories
  • Cooling features reduce higher temperatures throughout the mattress
  • Great motion isolation for couples

The Douglas Summit is our favourite choice for a luxury mattress in Canada. Though it costs a little less than other luxury mattresses on our list, it provides some of the best performance out of all of them. No matter what issue you’ve had with all foam mattresses, the Douglas Summit can help you resolve them. A better sleep awaits with this mattress, especially if you need motion isolation, pressure relief, and ease of movement. It also features one of the longest sleep trials on the Canadian market, so you can make sure it’s the right choice for you.

Douglas Summit Mattress Construction

  • Douglas CoolSense Cover with CryoFusion Cooling Nanofibres. The cover of the Douglas Summit is a CoolSense removable cover. It’s made with Infinitex thread and CryoFusion nanofibres that work to keep you breathable.
  • 2.5” Luxury ecoLight Gel Foam with Polar Temperature Balancing. The top layer of foam is a cooling gel foam, made with ecoLight. ecoLight uses up to 40% less carbon input than standard memory foam. In addition, this layer is coated with phase-changing material to reduce higher temperatures.
  • 2.5” Premium Elastex Foam. A transition layer of Elastex foam helps isolate motion, resisting any vibration that wants to travel across to the other side of the bed. This layer also cradles you where you press deeper into the mattress, eliminating pressure points.
  • 7” Motion Isolation Support Foam. The core of the mattress is a high-density foam that is extremely stable. This foam stops any remaining motion in its tracks, providing support, alignment, and total stillness.

Douglas Summit Mattress Performance Scores

Testing Dumbbells on the Douglas Mattress
Testing Dumbbells on the Douglas Mattress

Temperature Control – 9.2/10

The temperature control features at the top of the Douglas Summit are effective enough to keep most Canadians comfortable throughout the night. The phase-changing material, cooling gel foam, and cooling cover work together to quickly vent off extreme heat. In our testing phases, it was obvious that heat barely had time to gather within the mattress before it was removed by the cooling foams and additional airflow.

Motion Isolation – 10/10

Motion isolation is extremely important for couples, so it’s a good thing that the Douglas Summit delivers in this category. Indeed, this mattress receives one of the best motion isolation scores we’ve ever given out. That’s because practical tests showed absolutely no vibration to the other side of the mattress. Even during simulation testing, the amount of vibration that our equipment picked up was minimal at best.

Pressure Relief- 10/10

If you are a side sleeper that needs better pressure relief, this is a good mattress for you. The comfort layers are thick enough to cushion your body, reducing pressure points so you hardly feel any strain at all. Our testers reported waking up comfortably and without aches, and there wasn’t a single report of pressure-related issues from any of them.

Ease of Movement – 9.9/10

Despite how comfortable this mattress is, it doesn’t inhibit your movement. You can move around easily on top of the mattress, reducing any effort on your part to change positions in the middle of the night. Active testers who usually change position a lot reported no issues with moving around and found it easier than most other mattresses on the Canadian market.

Who is the Douglas Summit For?

  • Active sleepers. Those who move around a lot will have a better time on this mattress than on many others, as it is extremely easy to move around on the surface.
  • Canadians who sleep hot. If you usually wake up with night sweats, this mattress can help reduce discomfort and leave you waking up refreshed instead of soaked in sweat.
  • Couples. Couples with restless partners will appreciate the motion isolation from the core of this mattress, which drives away any vibration from the other side of the bed.

Who Should Avoid the Douglas Summit?

  • Those who like bounce. The Douglas Summit isn’t a bouncy mattress, which can make some users look elsewhere.

Highlights

  • Three distinct firmness options to choose from
  • Affordable price for an organic mattress
  • Varying performance levels for each firmness option

The Silk & Snow Organic Mattress has three firmness options to choose from at checkout. Each offers a different construction, each of which builds upon the last. The Firm option, which is the ‘basic’ model, provides great temperature control and support. As the mattress gets softer, you can expect the performance to change – and with each option, you can expect to pay a little more. Even so, this allows you a level of customization that is unheard of for an all-organic hybrid mattress at this price point.

Silk & Snow Organic Mattress Construction

Side profile of the Silk & Snow Organic
Side profile of the Silk & Snow Organic
  • GOTS-Certified Organic Cotton Cover. The cover of the S&S Organic mattress is soft and breathable. It is made with organic cotton, certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard to be of the best, purest organic quality.
  • GOTS-Certified Organic Wool Quilt Layer. The first layer within the mattress is a quilted wool, which acts as a natural fire retardant. It also wicks away heat, reduces moisture, and cushions your pressure points for a more comfortable sleep overall.
  • Plush and Medium Firm Only – 0.8” Quilted Latex Layer. The two softest versions of this mattress include a layer of quilted latex, which adds additional comfort and support throughout the mattress. In both the Plush and Medium Firm versions, this layer is 0.8” thick.
  • 0.8” GOLS-Certified Latex Layer. The core comfort layer within this mattress is certified organic latex. This Dunlop latex provides responsiveness and doesn’t use synthetic materials like some natural latex blends do. It does a great job of relieving pressure, too. In the Medium Firm version, this layer is 1.5” thick. In the Plush version, it is 3.5” thick.
  • Pocket Coil Base with Zoned Support. The supportive base of the Silk & Snow Organic mattress is always the same. A layer of up to 1,200 pocket coils aligns your body and keeps you supported, with firmer coils through the middle of the mattress for optimal support. Softer coils at your shoulders and knees reduce pressure, compressing easily for better relief.
  • Edge Support Perimeter. A perimeter of firmer edge support coils creates perfectly firm edges. If you gravitate towards the edge of the bed as you sleep, this firmer perimeter can keep you comfortable.
  • Durable Base Foam. A bottom layer of base foam provides increased durability, reduces sagging, and helps the mattress stay stable over time.

Silk & Snow Organic Mattress Performance Scores

Our testing process for the Silk & Snow Organic Mattress
Our testing process for the Silk & Snow Organic Mattress

Temperature Control – 9.1/10

The Silk & Snow Organic is a surprisingly cool mattress, especially considering that it uses no active cooling features. The Firm version of this mattress does a great job of keeping you cool, though extremely hot Canadian sleepers might need more active temperature control features. Since this mattress doesn’t use memory foam layers, our heat maps showed reduced build-up throughout use.

Motion Isolation – 7.2/10

Hybrid mattresses typically do not afford much motion isolation, meaning you’ll feel most of the movement from the other side of the bed. The Silk & Snow Organic doesn’t improve on the standard hybrid formula much. If you are a lighter sleeper who frequently wakes up when your partner tosses and turns, you might get more relief from the Plush version of the mattress. Still, it doesn’t make much of an improvement.

Pressure Relief- 8.9/10

Pressure relief isn’t quite where we usually like to see it with this mattress. Of course, it isn’t too bad and improves when you choose the Plush version of the mattress. The Firm version offers the worst pressure relief on the list, so we recommend those who need better relief choose one of the softer versions of the mattress. Still, the Firm version holds up well if you don’t usually experience pressure points. Testers mentioned that they felt some pushback, but only a few of them were uncomfortable because of it.

Ease of Movement – 9.4/10

While some mattresses allow you to sink in to cradle your body, reducing pressure throughout. However, this often means that you feel stuck in the mattress and unable to move around. When you need to change position often, a mattress like this one makes all the difference. It’s easier to move around on the surface, so even our testers who were very active at night had no trouble getting comfortable in a different position.

Who is the Silk & Snow Organic For?

  • Canadians who know their sleep preferences. If you know which firmness you like in a mattress, it’s easy to choose the version that works best for you.
  • Edge sleepers. If you sit or sleep near the edge, the extra edge support coils here will keep you comfortable without the normal sagging or sliding.
  • Eco-conscious Canadians. The certified organic layers of the Silk & Snow Organic are great for those who value an eco-conscious mattress.

Who Should Avoid the Silk & Snow Organic?

  • Couples. If you often wake up when your partner is moving around on the mattress, this mattress won’t be the best for you. It doesn’t do enough to dampen motion.

Motion isolation is an important feature for a lot of Canadians, especially those who share a bed. If you need better motion isolation to stay comfortable, consider the Emma Hybrid Premium Plus. This mattress dampens nearly all motion from the other side of the bed, leaving you well-rested even when your partner tosses and turns.

  • Policies: 9.5/10

Highlights

  • Luxurious Euro-top section makes for a plush experience
  • Bounce and feedback for those who don’t like a still mattress
  • Eco-conscious foams

The Logan & Cove Frontier is a luxury Euro-top hybrid that uses plush foam and fill layers to create a softer experience. This mattress is the top-tier option available for Logan & Cove, a company known for luxury mattresses at an affordable price point. This mattress uses zoned support pocket coils to create a better sleep experience. When mixed with the Euro-top section, you’ll find that you sleep comfortably all night long.

Logan & Cove Frontier Mattress Construction

  • Quilted Euro-Top Cover. The top of the mattress is a contained Euro-top section, which is almost an inch thick. This includes the cooling cover (which uses CryoFusion nanofibres), a layer of hollow fibre fill and a layer of gel foam quilted right into the cover.
  • 1” ecoLuxe Gel Foam. The top layer is a cushioning gel foam. EcoLuxe is a high-density foam that removes excess heat from your sleep environment, dispersing it to reduce discomfort and night sweats.
  • 1” Aeroduct Micro Coils. The first coil layer is made with micro-coils, which work to contour your body. These coils reduce pressure by providing a more customized pressure map, which is particularly effective for side sleepers and those who need additional support.
  • 1 ⅝” Elastex Foam. A transition layer of Elastex separates the coil layers. Elastex is a latex alternative that provides responsiveness for the mattress. It cushions deep pressure points and makes it easier to move around, all while keeping you elevated out of the coils inside the mattress.
  • 9” Pocket Coil Support Layer. The support layer at the core of the Logan & Cove Frontier features 9” pocket coils, individually wrapped to make it more comfortable for your sleeping position. The coils through the centre are firmer for better lumbar support, while coils around the edges reduce sinking and sagging here.

Logan & Cove Frontier Mattress Performance Scores

A good top view of the Logan & Cove Frontier

Temperature Control – 9.2/10

The Logan & Cove Frontier is a great option for those who sleep hot. The breathable coils and micro-coils work together with the cooling foam to increase breathability and vent away higher temperatures. Heat gets little opportunity to build up within this mattress, but what heat is there quickly dissipates once the materials get to work.

Motion Isolation – 7.1/10

The coils used within the core of this mattress do little to stop motion from travelling. If you sleep light, you’ll still be able to feel every movement from the other side of the mattress, including small fidgety movements as well as your partner turning over or getting out of bed. All of our testing methods returned poor results when it came to motion isolation, so those who need it might look elsewhere.

Pressure Relief- 9.4/10

The Euro-top and micro-coil layers help contribute to the pressure relief from this mattress. These layers work together to cushion your pressure points, align your body, and provide better relief throughout the mattress. Our testers never mentioned any issues with pressure, and many of them find that pressure relief is one of the most important issues for them.

Ease of Movement – 9.3/10

The Elastex foam layer and the micro-coils within the mattress make it easy to move around. These layers are responsive, reducing the amount of time you spend struggling to change positions in the middle of the night. Our active testers reported that it was simple to change positions without too much effort, though some heavier sleepers still sank a bit too far into the mattress.

Who is the Logan & Cove Frontier For?

  • Canadians who like a softer surface. The Euro-top section creates a plush sleeping surface, reducing discomfort and pressure.
  • Active Canadians. If you move around a lot or take a while to get comfortable, this mattress helps make moving a little easier.
  • Edge sleepers. The edge of this mattress features the same support as you’ll find everywhere else, so you’ll have true edge-to-edge support.

Who Should Avoid the Logan & Cove Frontier?

  • Light sleepers. If you wake up to every movement from the other side of the bed, this option might not be right for you. Its motion isolation capabilities are limited.

Highlights

  • Cooling measures make this mattress great for those who overheat easily
  • Great ease of movement for active sleepers
  • Layers of proprietary foams create a new experience

The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow is one of the most luxurious mattresses on our list. It uses layers of proprietary materials, including layers of different types of foam you won’t find in other mattresses. It works to offer support and pressure relief for most sleepers, with better temperature control than some of the other mattresses we’ve seen. It performed well in most of our testing areas, making it a great investment for your sleep.

  • Quick Cool Cover with Casper Edge Support. The cover of this mattress is made from an extremely breathable fabric, which uses phase-changing material to control temperatures. It helps reduce heat build-up and offers firmer edges to increase support.
  • Casper Signature Foam with Cooling Gel & AirScape Technology. The top layer is made of Casper’s proprietary perforated foam. It’s responsive and breathable, with small holes throughout the surface to vent off the heat and circulate cooler air. This layer is also a bit bouncy.
  • HeatDelete Bands. Bands of phase-changing materials pull heat away from your body. These work for up to 12 hours, bringing you the coolest sleep possible.
  • Latex with AirScape Technology. The next layer is responsive latex. This latex uses natural materials as well as synthetic blends to create a comfortable feel. It’s perforated, so it uses small holes across the surface to vent cooler air up through the mattress.
  • Premium Memory Foam with Zoned Support and AirScape Technology. A layer of memory foam helps reduce pressure, keeping your body aligned and preventing discomfort where you press into the mattress.
  • Align Foam with Gel Support Pods. The final layer of foam is a proprietary Align Foam, which is thicker in some places and thinner in others. It helps keep your body aligned and comfortable by providing stronger support where you need it. Nestled in the Align Foam are Gel Support Pods, which help with support in key areas.
  • Flex Coils. The coil layer within the mattress uses pocket coils to enhance the supportive materials used throughout the mattress. These coils help reduce strain and discomfort on your joints.
  • Edge Support Perimeter. A perimeter of edge support foam reduces sagging when you sit or sleep near the edge of the bed. When you sit here, you won’t feel like you are sliding off.

Casper Wave Hybrid Snow Mattress Performance Scores

Temperature Control – 9.4/10

The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow is a cooling mattress first and foremost, and this is obvious in the way it keeps you cool. Layers of perforated foam reduce heat throughout the mattress, while a single layer of memory foam is the only place it can build up. Heat maps didn’t show us any significant build-up over time, as heat was dealt with quickly and easily.

Motion Isolation – 7.0/10

While the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow held up in most other areas, we were surprised by the motion isolation results. Simulation tests returned poor results, and tester feedback reinforced those scores. Because of the coils at the base of the mattress, it’s hard for this mattress to maintain a still sleeping surface when it is disturbed.

Pressure Relief – 10/10

There are a few mattresses on our list that receive perfect scores in some performance areas, but the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow is one of them. This mattress offers the perfect amount of pressure relief for any sleeping position. The layers of comfort foam reduce strain and prevent pushback, so you can sleep without pressure points.

Ease of Movement – 9.5/10

The construction of the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow puts memory foam near the bottom of the mattress. This is a unique construction that allows for better response on the surface. The materials won’t sink too far and will reform fairly easily when you need to change position. None of our testers had issues with moving on top of this mattress.

Who is the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow For?

  • Side sleepers. Side sleepers will find comfort in the support offered by the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow, with multiple layers of foam that provide strong lumbar relief.
  • Hot sleepers. Multiple breathable and perforated materials help reduce heat and vent it away quickly, so even those who sleep hot can rest easy.
  • Canadians who an a unique experience. The Casper Wave Hybrid provides a unique experience, with layers of materials you won’t find elsewhere.

Who Should Avoid the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow?

  • Restless couples. Tossing and turning can easily transfer motion across this mattress, so those who wake easily should seek a better option.

  • Ultra-Dry Cover. The cover of this mattress is removable and washable. The soft, breathable surface removes excess heat and wicks away moisture to leave you cooler.
  • 0.75” Thermosync Foam. A top layer of graphite-infused foam isolates heat, reducing build-up and leaving you cooler overall. If you are usually distressed by night sweats, this layer can help.
  • 0.5” AirgoCell Foam. Open-cell point elastic foam creates a layer of responsive, temperature-neutral foam that doesn’t allow heat or moisture to filter down through the other layers of the mattress.
  • 0.5” MemoryAdapt Foam. The memory foam in this layer contours to your body, reducing pressure where it can. It does a lot of the work when it comes to motion isolation as well.
  • 0.75” HRX Foam. HRX foam makes up a comfortable foam layer that keeps you supported and elevated out of the coils. It provides a support map that works for your body regardless of how you sleep.
  • 8” Pocket Coil Layer. The pocket coil layer is separated into 7 ergonomic zones, each of which provides crucial support to a different part of your body. The coils are firm where you need them to be and softer where required.
  • 3.5” Support Foam. High-density support foam creates a bottom layer to support the mattress. This layer helps keep the mattress stable, but it also stops most of the motion isolation throughout the mattress.

Emma Hybrid Premium Plus Mattress Performance Scores

Testing the sinkage of the Emma Hybrid Premium Plus mattress
Testing the sinkage of the Emma Hybrid Premium Plus mattress

Temperature Control – 9.2/10

The comfort layers provide strong temperature control within this mattress. If you sleep hot, you can rest a little easier without intense night sweats. All but the hottest sleepers can be comfortable here. Heat mapping tests offered a lot of insight into how quickly the mattress dealt with heat, so you will be cooled efficiently.

Motion Isolation – 10/10

Motion isolation from this mattress is near perfect. It won’t move around when your partner does, leaving you comfortably undisturbed when they get out of bed, toss and turn, or type a message next to you. If motion isolation is one of the most important features for you, you will be relieved to hear that this mattress performed well in all testing.

Pressure Relief – 8.7/10

Pressure relief is a little less than ideal from this mattress. The comfort layers are a lot thinner than what other mattresses offer. As a result, you can get some pressure pushing back at your joints. Heavier sleepers and side sleepers may have issues here. Our testers in these categories did note some discomfort when it came to pressure relief.

Ease of Movement – 9.6/10

The materials used here are thin enough that they hardly make it difficult to move around. The memory foam layer is buried under layers of different foams, meaning you are less likely to feel stuck in the mattress. Our testers said that most of the time, they could move around without waking up.

Who is the Emma Hybrid Premium Plus For?

  • Canadians who need motion isolation. This mattress allows zero motion transfer, allowing you to sleep more comfortably when your partner is moving around throughout the night.
  • Those who like bounce. If you like the mattress to move around a bit when you sleep on it, this could be the right choice for you. It offers bounce along with motion isolation, a rare combination.
  • Users who need a better sleep investment. The Emma Hybrid Premium Plus is an investment. It’s a bit pricey, but better sleep is important enough to spring for it.

Who Should Avoid the Emma Hybrid Premium Plus?

  • Heavy Side Sleepers. Heavy side sleepers need better pressure relief to remain comfortable. While this mattress offers some pressure relief, it may not be enough for heavier sleepers.

  • Breathable Sleep Surface. The hand-knitted cover of the Simba 5000 is extremely comfortable and soft. It’s also hypoallergenic, so it will cut down on allergy flares for some sensitive Canadians.
  • Natural Wool Layer. A layer of natural wool helps with some temperature control but also adds some softness to the mattress. This natural fire barrier reduces the need for chemicals throughout the mattress, too.
  • Open-Cell Graphite-Infused SimbaTex. Simba’s proprietary open-cell foam is infused with graphite. This conducts heat to the coolest parts of the mattress and away from you. The open cells provide better breathability and can help reduce motion transfer as well.
  • 2 Aerocoil Spring-Comfort Layer. A dual layer of conical micro springs provides excellent pressure relief and contouring. They also offer great support that you won’t find in pocket coils alone. Between these two layers are over 5,000 conical Aerocoil springs.
  • Edge to Edge Simba-Pure Support. Simba-Pure is a proprietary foam blend. Here, it is used as a transition layer to keep the coil layers separated. It helps with motion isolation, reduces pressure points, and provides the support only high-density memory foam can.
  • Zoned Simba-Pure Base. The base of the mattress features Simba-Pure, a zoned foam with collapse points and ventilation. The mattress collapses where you need it to, providing more support to some parts of the mattress. It also reduces strain and motion transfer.

Simba 5000 Pro Flex Mattress Performance Scores

Light weight testing on the Simba 500 Pro Flex
Light weight testing on the Simba 5000 Pro Flex

Temperature Control – 9.4/10

Between the graphite-infused foam, breathable cover, and micro-coil layers, this mattress does everything it can to provide increased breathability. These features go a long way towards the overall temperature control within the mattress, which can help those who sleep hot get much better sleep. Heat mapping showed little build-up over time, as heat was siphoned away efficiently even for our hottest testers.

Motion Isolation – 10/10

Simba’s 5000 mattress offers perfect motion isolation. This could be entirely up to its construction, with conical micro springs acting as the supportive coil layer and a foam base. Whatever the reason, this mattress scored perfectly on all of our motion isolation tests.

Pressure Relief- 9.3/10

Pressure relief is an important feature, particularly for side sleepers. The Simba 5000 Pro Flex offers very little pushback, which creates minimal pressure at best. The micro coil layers help greatly with this. They distribute your weight evenly, preventing strain from a single point of contact with the mattress. Most of our testers had only good things to say about the pressure relief in this mattress.

Ease of Movement – 8.3/10

Sometimes, pressure relief and motion isolation come at the expense of ease of movement. That’s the case here. The Simba 5000 can be difficult to move around on, especially when you have slept in the same location for hours. If you need to move, prepare to fight with the mattress a bit to get where you need to be.

Who is the Simba 5000 Pro Flex For?

  • Hot sleepers. The cooling properties work extremely effectively, so the mattress won’t make you sweat.
  • Couples. The Simba 5000 offers zero motion transfer, so restless partners can toss and turn all night without waking you up.
  • Side sleepers. Side sleepers will especially love the pressure relief and alignment offered from this mattress.

Who Should Avoid the Simba 5000 Pro Flex?

  • Edge sleepers. This mattress is extremely prone to sinking and sagging at the edges, so you might want an option that provides stronger support here.

Alternative Option

Edge support is a little lacking in this mattress. Though it makes up for it in other areas, edge support may be something you find important. If this is the case, consider choosing the Logan & Cove Frontier. The firm perimeter of pocket coils helps reduce sagging at the edges, so you can sit or sleep anywhere on the surface of the mattress.
