The last decade has seen many new Canadian mattress companies, including Silk & Snow, enter the sleep market. It sold its first mattresses seven years ago and has quickly built itself a reputation for high-quality mattresses made in Canada.
Silk & Snow manufactures three different mattresses: the Silk & Snow (a foam mattress), the Silk & Snow Hybrid (a standard hybrid), and the Silk & Snow Organic (an organic hybrid). If you have decided that you want a Silk & Snow mattress but aren’t sure which is best for you, this article can help. Here, we’ll compare the three mattresses using our test results. This can give you a better idea of what you can expect from each mattress.

Overview of Silk & Snow
Silk & Snow is a Canadian-owned and operated company founded in 2017. This makes it one of the youngest mattress companies in Canada. Even though they may not have as much experience as some other Canadian mattress companies, they know how to produce a high-quality mattress and have quickly established themselves as one of the most popular Canadian brands within the sleep market.
All of Silk & Snow’s mattresses are made in Canada. They use locally sourced materials as often as possible. When a material is not available in Canada, such as the latex used in the organic mattress, they ensure it is from sustainable sources by using only GOLS-certified latex.
While Silk & Snow focuses on selling mattresses and other sleep products online, they also have two showrooms in Ontario – one in Toronto and the other in Ottawa. Of course, these showrooms are out of reach for most Canadians. That’s why the company offers mattress buyers a sleep trial. You can find out more about their sleep trial a little later in the article.
Price Comparison
The Silk & Snow foam mattress is the company’s “basic” mattress. It is the most budget-friendly option the company offers. In our opinion, it is a very good value for money if you want an all-foam mattress. If you prefer a hybrid, which includes firm coils with foam, you need to be prepared to pay more. In some cases, you can pay up to $300 more depending on the size of the mattress.
Another thing to consider is the firmness of each mattress. While the Silk & Snow mattress comes in a single firmness, the Silk & Snow Hybrid has two firmness options. The Silk & Snow Organic offers three different firmness options and each of these changes performance and price.
Here, we’ll take a look at the prices of each mattress (including each firmness option). You can get a good idea of which options are within your price range, especially if you need a specific firmness level.

Mattress Sizes
All three mattresses from Silk & Snow are designed to fit in standard-size bed frames. If you are buying a new mattress for your existing bed frame, you don’t need to worry about how it will fit. Split King is not an available size for Silk & Snow, but you can get mattresses for your Split King adjustable beds by purchasing two Twin XL mattresses.
The widths and lengths are the same for all mattresses. However, the height of the mattress varies based on the firmness you choose. Here’s a quick rundown of the size of each mattress.

Mattress Construction and Performance
There are significant differences in the construction between the foam, hybrid, and organic mattresses from Silk & Snow. These constructional differences affect how the mattress feels and performs. Our easy-to-understand rating system makes it easy to compare mattresses and gauge which one will best meet your sleeping needs.
Differences in Silk & Snow Mattress Construction
The main difference between the mattresses is that the Silk & Snow mattress is an all-foam mattress whereas the other two use both foam and coils. It has a gel memory top layer to provide pressure relief and encourage airflow. The middle is transitional foam to reduce motion transfer and reduce strain on your joints. The final layer is high-density support foam which supports the structure and improves durability.
Similarly to the foam mattress, the medium-firm Hybrid is made with three layers: two layers of foam and one layer of coils. The top layer is quilted foam to help with pressure relief. Meanwhile, the middle layer is a cooling foam that further relieves pressure and helps keep you cool.
The final layer is made with up to 1,200 individually pocketed coils. They are supportive, breathable, and quiet. These coils are arranged in zones to support you in the right places. Because the coils are in individual pockets, the mattress has better support and can support better motion isolation.
If you choose the Plush hybrid, there are additional layers of deep pressure relief foam, cooling fabric, and a thicker transition layer to keep you comfortable.
The Silk & Snow Organic mattress has four or five separate layers depending on the firmness level. The top layer is GOTS-certified organic wool that is quilted to optimize comfort and breathability.
In the Medium Firm and Plush options of the mattress, the second layer is made with GOLS-certified latex. This layer makes the mattress more supportive and balanced and makes the core latex layer more effective. The third (or the second in the firm mattress) layer is GOLS-certified Dunlop latex. This layer is 0.8″ thick in the firm option, 1.5″ in the medium-firm option, and 3.5″ in the plush option.
The next layer is the coil layer where the coils are arranged in ergonomic zones to ensure your body is supported in the right places and your spine is in correct alignment while you sleep. The final layer is made with stabilizing foam that supports the coils and the shape of the mattress and prevents sagging.

Temperature Control
Foam 8.0/10; Hybrid 6.5/10; Organic 9.1/10
The score for temperature regulation is based on how well a mattress wicks away heat and moisture and helps you stay at a comfortable temperature while you sleep. We must say we were surprised at the scores for the foam and hybrid mattresses as often, hybrids sleep cooler than full-foam mattresses.
But there are always exceptions and here we have one of them. The foam mattress was more effective than the hybrid in regulating temperature. What didn’t surprise us was that the organic performed the best since latex is a naturally cooling material and combined with wool and coils is very effective at pulling heat away from the body.
If you are a hot sleeper, you will benefit from choosing the organic or foam mattress. Those who do not sleep hot are likely to be comfortable with any of these mattresses.
Motion Isolation
Foam 9.4/10; Hybrid 8.4/10; Organic 7.2/10
If you share your bed, it is important to consider how well the mattress prevents vibrations from travelling across the mattress. Foam mattresses often perform better than hybrid mattresses in this area and this was true for the Silk & Snow mattresses, too.
The all-foam mattress scored very high and is among the best mattresses we have tested for motion isolation. The hybrid performed the second best with the individual coils working with the foam layers to reduce motion. The score for the organic mattress was another surprise; we expected it to perform better but our testers noted the vibrations travelled a lot more than in the foam or hybrid bed.
If your sleep is easily disturbed by movement, then the organic mattress is probably not the best choice for you. Most people will find that the hybrid isolates enough movement, but those who value this feature should choose an all-foam option.

Edge Support
Foam 8.1/10; Hybrid 9.0/10; Organic 9.0/10
A lot of foam mattresses do not have very strong edges but the Silk & Snow foam mattress is one of the exceptions. It scored considerably higher than the average foam mattress for edge support. However, it could not quite compete with the hybrid and the organic mattress which use coils to ensure the edge is strong and supportive.
When do you need a strong edge? If you like to sleep on the edge of the bed or you need more support getting in and out of bed, look for a mattress with a strong edge. A strong edge will prevent sagging from the weight applied to it from sleeping or sitting on the edge and the mattress will maintain its shape for longer. While the hybrid and organic have stronger edges, the foam mattress is likely to be supportive enough for most Canadians.

Firmness and Comfort
Foam 6.0/10; Hybrid 6.5-7.0/10; Organic 5.5-7.0/10
At Slumber, we score mattresses for their firmness and comfort on a scale from 1 to 10. On this scale, 1 represents the softest option and 10 is the firmest mattress. Most Canadian mattresses fall between 4 and 7 on our scale.

The Plush version of the Silk & Snow Hybrid and Organic are the softest options, followed by the all-foam Silk & Snow mattress. The Medium-firm versions of these mattresses both scored around a 6.5 in our tests, while the Firm versions got a 7.

Because the mattresses all fall between 4 and 7, they are suitable for most Canadians. However, firmness and comfort are subjective and will depend on your body type and preferred sleeping position.
For example, side sleepers often benefit from a mattress that falls in the middle of the scale. Lightweight sleepers need a softer mattress, but heavier sleepers may need a firmer mattress to maintain comfort. Your sleeping position and body type have an impact on how a mattress feels for you, so you need to consider this before you make a purchase.
Final Verdict: Which Snow & Silk Mattress is Right for You?
When you are ready to make your final decision, consider your priorities. For example, If temperature control is the most important factor for you, you should choose the Organic. It performed the best in our cooling tests. Meanwhile, those needing motion isolation may prefer the all-foam Silk & Snow mattress, which performed best in that category. Budget may play a role as well, so some may not choose the Organic version on price alone.
Whichever Silk & Snow mattress you decide to get, you are getting a high-quality mattress that is likely to satisfy your sleeping needs so that you wake up refreshed and rested. And with Silk & Snow’s 365-sleep trial, you can have peace of mind knowing you can return the mattress if it ends up not working for you.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is the Silk & Snow mattress different from the other two mattresses?
The main difference between the Silk & Snow mattress and the hybrid and organic mattresses from Silk & Snow is their construction. The hybrid and organic mattresses both use foam and coils while the Silk & Snow mattress is made with three layers of foam only.
Why is the Organic mattress so much more expensive?
The Silk & Snow organic mattress is more expensive because it uses only organic materials that have to be imported. Silk & Snow get their latex from an experienced manufacturer in Sri Lanka. Another reason is the number of layers: the other two mattresses have three layers, while the Organic has five layers (or four if you are considering the firm version). The Plush version of the Organic is the most expensive because it uses many more materials than any other mattress that Silk & Snow offers.
What happens if I change my mind about the mattress?
If you change your mind and decide that the mattress is not right for you, contact Silk & Snow customer services. As long as you contact them before the sleep trial finishes (you have 365 days) and the mattress is in a donatable condition, they will arrange a pickup and a refund. Make sure to use a mattress protector to keep your mattress in sanitary condition in case you decide to return it.
Which mattress is best for heavier people?
Heavier people benefit from having a firmer mattress. The Firm Organic mattress or the Medium Firm Hybrid is are best option here. The Organic mattress is made with latex, which is naturally supportive without the quicksand feeling of foam alone. There is no weight limit on the Silk & Snow Organic, either.
Is there anywhere I can try the Silk & Snow mattresses?
Silk & Snow has two showrooms that are both in Ontario. If you can’t make it to these showrooms, rest assured that the sleep trial is completely risk-free. You can request a return if the mattress isn’t right for you.
