Overview of Juno and Douglas Brands

As we mentioned above, both Juno and Douglas are GoodMorning.com mattress brands. They can both still be considered quite new brands: Douglas first started manufacturing mattresses in 2017 and Juno, a slightly younger brand, started in 2019.
While Douglas mattresses are reasonably priced, Juno can be considered the budget brand among all the GoodMorning.com brands. However, Juno is a good example of a product where a lower price does not mean lower quality. Instead, you will get very good value for your money with Juno since the company is committed to the same high standards for quality as Douglas and other GoodMorning.com brands.
Since entering the Canadian mattress market, Douglas has quickly established itself as one of the most popular bed-in-a-box brands in the country. They are known for their good customer service and mattresses made for the Canadian consumers.
Juno Vs. Douglas Price Comparison
Juno is one of the cheapest mattresses available in Canada that still delivers quality and comfort. Yes, there are even cheaper options available, but often you will find that those mattresses are less durable and not made with materials that are as high quality.
Douglas is clearly the more expensive of the two mattresses. The main reason for the higher price is the way the two mattresses are constructed. You will find the mattress construction details for both mattresses a little later in the article.

Both Juno and Douglas Original mattresses are available in all the regular sizes from twin to California King. They both also do a split king option for couples who like a king-size bed with separate mattresses. You can also find RV mattresses in three different size options from both mattress manufacturers.
The lengths and widths of the Juno and Douglas mattresses are the same, with the only difference being the height of the mattress. If you prefer or need a higher mattress, then Douglas is a better option for you. However, even though the Juno mattress is thinner, it is still very comfortable and scored highly in our tests as you will find out below.

Mattress Construction and Performance
How the mattress will perform depends mostly on the materials used and how they are put together to create the mattress. Below, you will find details of the layers included in the Juno and Douglas Original mattresses and how they performed in our tests.

Differences in Endy and Douglas Original Construction
At eight inches high, the Juno mattress is two inches lower than the Douglas Original. They also differ in terms of layers used to construct the mattresses. In the Juno mattress, the top is formed of a two-inch layer of foam that uses full-body cooling gel to help with temperature regulation. Underneath is a six-inch layer of support foam to prevent motion transfer and support spinal alignment. The cover on the Juno mattress is made with a knitted material that makes the surface soft and comfortable.
The Douglas Original is made using three different types of foam to improve air circulation, reduce motion transfer, and add support for your spine. The bottom layer is six inches thick and made with high-density foam. In the middle, is a layer of Elastex® foam, which is two inches thick. The top layer is ecoLight cooling gel foam designed to keep you cooler while you sleep. The cover, called CoolSense, is cool and soft to the touch and also helps with temperature regulation.
Even though the Juno mattress is thinner and has two instead of three layers, it performed very well in our tests. Sometimes even outperforming the Douglas Original.
Temperature Control

Traditionally, foam mattresses used to have poor airflow and trap heat, making you feel hot while you sleep. Mattress manufacturers such as Juno and Douglas have addressed this problem and use cooling technologies to improve temperature regulation.
In the Douglas Original, the cooling sensation is created with the help of the CoolSense cover and the ecoLight cooling gel foam layer. When we tested the mattress, it had good airflow and did not trap heat, allowing you to sleep more comfortably. The Douglas Original performed a little better in our temperature control testing due to its more advanced cooling technologies.
However, the Juno mattress still performed well. The difference is small enough that most will find them comfortable even during the summer months.
Motion Isolation

When we talk about motion isolation or motion transfer, we are talking about how much movement travels across a mattress. This is a very important factor when choosing a mattress if you share your bed with a partner, kids, or even your pet. When a mattress has good motion isolation, it means you are less likely to feel the other person’s movements.
Here at Slumber, we generally recommend a rating of 7+ for motion isolation if you share your bed. While the Juno scored very well, and above average, the Douglas Original got an almost perfect score.
Most people will be happy with either mattress for motion isolation. However, if you share your bed with a very restless person or your sleep is easily disturbed, you may benefit from spending a little extra and opting for the Douglas Original.
Edge Support

Foam mattresses are not known for having good edge support. However, there are some exceptions. Both the Juno and Douglas Original mattresses score higher than the average foam mattress in this area, but the Douglas Original receives an outstanding score for an all-foam mattress.
Why is edge support important? While it may not matter to everyone, people who like to sleep on the edge or who have mobility issues either due to age or a disability, will benefit from a firmer edge. When the edge is firm, it will support the body better and prevent rolling out of the bed if sleeping on the edge. For those who have mobility issues, it can make getting in and out of bed easier.
If you prefer firmer edge support, the Douglas Original is the option for you.
Firmness and Comfort
Mattresses are generally rated for firmness using a scale of 1-10 where 1 means very soft and 10 very hard. For most Canadians, a mattress with a score between 4 and 7 will be the best option offering both contouring and pressure relief.

When we tested the Juno and Douglas Original mattresses, they both got a rating of 6.5, which means they are medium-firm mattresses. This rating means they are suitable for most people based on their body weight. They will also give your body good support in all sleeping positions.
However, it should be remembered that firmness and comfort are both subjective. For example, a person who is lighter than average may find both of these mattresses too firm or heavier side sleepers may find that their hips and shoulders sink too much. Therefore, you always need to consider firmness scores in relation to your sleeping preference and body type.

Sleep Trial, Warranty, and Delivery
Sleep Trial
A sleeper trial refers to the period when you can “try” a mattress at home and request to return it for a full refund if you are not happy with it. Being able to request a refund if a mattress doesn’t meet your requirements certainly takes away a lot of the worry associated with purchasing a mattress online.
The Juno mattress offers a 120-night sleep trial. This used to be the industry standard before Douglas started offering 365-night trials. Since both companies are owned by Goodmorning.com, you can expect the same great level of customer service and company policy for both. 120 nights is still a long time to try a mattress, but Douglas’s 365-night policy gives you a longer trial period.
Note that you have to use the mattress for at least 21 nights before contacting customer service for a return. This is because it takes some time for your body to adjust to a new mattress. You are free to contact the company for a refund anytime between nights 21 and 365 for the Douglas Original mattress.
Warranty
Both mattresses have a warranty period, which refers to the length of time the mattress is covered against manufacturing issues or material defects. The Juno and Douglas Original both have a 15-year warranty. We always recommend that you check the manufacturer’s website or contact customer service before making a purchase if you have any questions or require further clarification on the warranty terms.
Delivery
Douglas and Juno both offer free shipping and delivery to most parts of Canada. Some remote areas might require a shipping fee, but that fee may vary. To find out if your location requires a shipping fee, you can check the manufacturer’s website or contact their customer service team.
Final Verdict: Juno or Douglas Original?
Choosing between the Juno and Douglas Original means considering several factors reviewed in this article. Consider all these factors based on your personal circumstances, with your budget, your preferred sleeping position, whether you sleep hot, and whether you share your bed being some of the main considerations.
The Juno mattress is cheaper than the Douglas in every size, but also performs worse in most areas. Still, the difference is small in some cases. It fills a void that few bed in a box mattresses can: it provides quality materials and construction at an extremely affordable price. The Douglas Original is also an affordable option with amazing material quality, but it costs more than the Juno. The difference comes down to a few performance categories and how much you are willing to spend.

Other Mattresses from Juno and Douglas

Even though the Juno and Douglas Original are both great mattresses, you may like to upgrade to the Cool+ from Juno or Alpine or Summit from Douglas
The Juno Cool+ is, as the name suggests, an even cooler mattress than the “basic” Juno mattress. It has open-cell cooling gel foam and a cover made using cooling yarn fibres. The cover is designed to wick away moisture and heat while the foam layer draws heat away from the sleep surface.
Douglas offers two other options in addition to the Original. First is the Douglas Alpine. It is eleven inches thick and uses active cooling technology to keep you cooler and the foam layers are designed to deliver improved pressure relief. The other option, Summit, is their top-tier option. It includes advanced cooling technology, known as phase-changing materials, designed to keep you comfortably warm/cool at all times.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where are these mattresses made?
The Douglas Original and Juno mattresses are made in Canada. Additionally, both are sold exclusively in Canada to Canadian customers only.
Which option is best for back pain?
Canadians with back pain require stronger lumbar support. While you’re unlikely to find extreme lumbar support in either of these mattresses, the Douglas does a better job of easing aches and discomfort.
How much is delivery for these mattresses?
Both mattresses offer free delivery to most locations in Canada. Some remote locations may require a delivery fee.
What do the mattress warranties cover?
Both mattress warranties cover manufacturing or workmanship issues, as well as material defects. This includes indents of a certain depth, but only when the mattress is used according to its instructions. Using the mattress incorrectly (using the wrong foundation, for instance, or exceeding the weight limit) can void the warranty.
Which mattress is best for pressure relief?
The Douglas Original gets a better score from us when it comes to pressure relief. The thicker profile likely means that you’ll get better results from this mattress if pressure relief is a concern.
