Perfect Support for Every Body Type
The Emma Hybrid Comfort is a top-of-the-line Canadian mattress that caters to every sleeping position and body type. At $1,487 for a queen size, this 13” tall mattress combines multiple layers of cooling foam, support foam and ergonomic zoned pocket coils.
With an added stabilizing layer, this mattress is great for those needing deeper pressure relief, couples seeking motion isolation, and heavier individuals who want a durable and supportive mattress. With so many layers, this mattress is slightly firmer than average but holds up over time.
Our Methodology
Our ranking process can take months to complete. We look at every aspect of a mattress, focusing on those areas that Canadians find most useful in a mattress. These include any cooling properties, motion isolation features, and support at the edges.
We use ball drop tests to test for sinkage and motion isolation, as well as practical tests that measure vibration as one of our testers moves around on top of the mattress. We take the mattress apart to check out the materials, but we also send mattresses home with our testers for a longer, more in-depth practical test. The results of these tests and more go to our researchers and experts, who help us compile a review of the best and worst features each option offers.

Mattress Construction
Emma’s Hybrid Comfort mattress uses 5 layers of foam and coils, all wrapped within a soft top cover. The bottom cover is anti-slip and extremely durable.
- The Cover: The cover of the Emma Hybrid Comfort is a soft, woven material that wicks away sweat and heat. This cover reduces night sweats by removing moisture from your sleep environment. It’s also extremely soft to the touch.
- The 1st Layer: Airgocell foam sits at the top of the mattress and reduces as you sleep. We loved that no matter how warm you are when getting into bed, this mattress works great at keeping us cool and eliminates night sweats.
- The 2nd layer: Made of cooling gel foam, this adaptive layer gently molds to your body no matter what position you are in without causing sinking or feeling trapped.
- The 3rd Layer: In the middle of the mattress, a layer of durable HRX foam supports all body types and weights, ensuring that every sleeper gets a perfect level of firmness and comfort.
- The 4th Layer: The Emma Hybrid Comfort’s coil foundation comprises individually wrapped pocket coils that prevent motion transfer and are designed to support and target pressure relief. Constructed in 7 different zones, those who need deep relief will appreciate the edge-to-edge support.
- The 5th Layer: Under the entire mattress sits a thick layer of stabilizing high-density foam, ensuring a long life span and overall durability that many mattresses lack.
The construction of this mattress allows for better support, with many layers that add to a unique feel. The stabilizing foam layer at the bottom of the mattress ensures longevity by preventing sagging and a loss of structural integrity, even when the mattress is well-used.
Mattress Performance and Testing
We tested the Emma Hybrid Comfort for temperature control, motion isolation, and edge support. Our results were better than average overall for each category.
Temperature Control (8.9/10)
By looking at how well the mattress stays cool throughout the night, what fabrics and materials are used in the top layers, and how well it promotes airflow, we can fairly evaluate a mattress’s temperature control. Many all-foam mattresses run hot and rank average in cooling. Those who sleep hot, though, will want to buy a mattress with at least a 7/10 in temperature control.
Performing better than many other options we have tried, the Emma Hybrid Comfort has excellent cooling and is a mattress that we recommend for any Canadian who sleeps hot. With three different temperature control features in place, including a moisture-wicking cover, a layer of Airgocell temperature-reducing foam and cooling gel foam. Even our hottest testers stayed comfortable.
Motion Isolation (9/10)
Our testers drop weighted balls on each mattress we review to test how well motion is absorbed and how much is transferred throughout. In addition, we have a team of experts that try them out at home, especially when gauging the quality of sleep when next to a restless partner or pet. Solo sleepers, or those who tend to sleep soundly, will do ok with a score of 5 or 6 out of 10. Couples, however, may wish for a mattress with superior motion isolation and will want to choose one that ranks at least 8/10.
Earning a higher-than-average ranking, this mattress did a great job with motion isolation. The Emma Hybrid Comfort has a layer of HRX foam and a thick pocket coil base on a stabilizing foam layer intended to completely prevent motion transfer. With both drop weight testing and user experience, motion was nearly impossible to detect.
Edge Support (8/10)
Over time, many mattresses start to sink or sag along the edge of the bed due to repeated sitting or sleeping in that area. We look for mattresses with reinforced steel coil perimeters or foam mattresses with extra high-density foam edging. For the best support, we recommend a mattress with at least a 7/10 for anyone who tends to sleep near the edge of the bed.
Like many hybrid options, this mattress had a good edge support system. We scored this higher than average due to its unique 7-zoned system within the layer of pocket coils. While it does not have a reinforced perimeter, these coils are made of extra strong steel, ensuring edge-to-edge support. In addition, this mattress has so many other foam layers that we never experienced sinking at the edges over an extended period.
Firmness and Feel of the Emma Hybrid Comfort Mattress
Medium-firm mattresses are generally a great choice for most sleepers. In most conditions, a medium-firm mattress offers a blend of pressure relief and support. Unfortunately, the Emma Hybrid Comfort lacks a little when it comes to pressure support. The section of the mattress made for comfort is smaller than in most other mattresses and far less than is ideal. Side sleepers, especially lightweight and average-sized side sleepers, will find that their pressure is not adequately relieved.
The slightly firmer feel doesn’t allow for much sinkage. It has an average response time, which may make it comfortable for those who move around a lot. The pressure relief, while restrictive for some sleepers, may be perfect for others. This mattress feels like it is made for support and alignment rather than the plush comfort that most Canadians prefer.
Performance for Different Weights and Sleeping Preferences
Your body type and sleeping position can make all the difference when it comes to your mattress. Each mattress can appeal to sleepers differently based on these factors.
Weight Considerations
Weight is one of the biggest factors that can influence your comfort on a mattress. Lighter sleepers (less than 130 pounds) may find that firmer mattresses aren’t comfortable at all, while heavier sleepers (more than 230 pounds) need firmer support to reduce pressure. The more you weigh, the more you push down into the mattress—which means that there is more pressure returns to your body.
The Emma Hybrid Comfort is a firmer medium-firm mattress. This means that most heavier sleepers will find it comfortable. Lighter sleepers can also find some comfort here, as the smaller comfort section offers some give. However, lightweight and average side sleepers won’t find the pressure they need from this mattress. Heavier side sleepers may find some relief, but this is extremely dependent on personal preferences.
Sleeping Positions
The way you sleep can have a huge impact on how a mattress feels. Each sleeping position needs different things for a mattress, so one option may not work for every sleeper.
- Side Sleepers: Side sleepers need pressure relief and alignment. For this reason, they tend to prefer mattresses that are medium to medium firm. While the Emma Comfort Hybrid is a medium-firm mattress, it’s a bit too firm for side sleepers. Pressure relief is lacking for those who need deeper support and a thicker foam comfort section. Side sleepers may want to avoid this mattress.
- Back Sleepers: Back sleepers who like a firmer feel will appreciate this mattress. It doesn’t hug your body as closely, so back sleepers who only need a little bit of contouring can feel more supported. The strong support and alignment work together to create a great mattress for those who sleep on their backs.
- Stomach Sleepers: Stomach sleepers, for the most part, appreciate a softer top with strong support. The Emma Hybrid Comfort mattress provides better support than some competing mattresses but lacks a significantly plush top section. Regardless, stomach sleepers of all body types who like a firmer mattress will love this one.
- Combo Sleepers: Combination sleepers need a mattress that responds quickly. A mattress that works well for most sleeping positions will be a boon for combo sleepers. Unfortunately, the Emma Hybrid Comfort doesn’t respond fast enough to fully avoid feeling stuck in the mattress. Combination sleepers may have a great experience overall, but movement will be a bit harder.

Company Background
Emma is a European mattress company with headquarters in Germany. In Canada, their one warehouse and manufacturing centre is in Ontario, while other locations are scattered around the globe. Emma has built a solid reputation for making high-quality, durable mattresses with luxury features. While they aren’t the least expensive option you can buy in Canada, finding another mattress with the same level of cooling and support is hard.
In addition to the Emma Hybrid Comfort, they also make an all-foam original mattress and an upgraded premium hybrid. Like many mattress companies, they manufacture bed frames and bedding, offering a full one-stop shopping experience.
Commitment to the Environment
As a company, Emma does not advertise any overt environmental goals. The Hybrid Comfort, at least, is 100% Vegan and uses materials that feature no animal byproducts. All of the foams used within the mattress are CeritPUR-US Certified, as well as OEKO-TEX Class 1 Certified. This means they don’t use any chemicals that may be harmful.
Emma Hybrid Comfort vs Other Emma Mattresses
Emma is a Canadian company with a progressive mattress lineup. The Emma Hybrid Comfort is the midline model, with better support than the Emma Original but fewer features than the Emma Cooling Elite. Here’s how they compare.
Emma Hybrid Comfort vs Emma Original
The Emma Original is the baseline model in Emma’s sleep lineup. This mattress is made with three layers of foam, including memory foam, breathable support foam, and a layer of temperature-regulating poly foam. This mattress is less expensive than the other options but misses a lot of the same features they offer.
The Hybrid Comfort comes out on top here because of the massive upgrades it features. The difference between the Hybrid Comfort and the Original model is astounding, especially for those who need better cooling and support. The Original may not feel as supportive or cool, but it does feature better motion isolation through the all-foam design.
Emma Hybrid Comfort vs Emma Cooling Elite
The Emma Cooling Elite is the company’s top-shelf mattress. It features more comfort layers than the Emma Hybrid Comfort, including layers that increase temperature control and an extra layer to adapt the mattress to your body. It’s a luxurious hybrid that comes at a higher cost than either of Emma’s other mattresses.
The Emma Hybrid Comfort does fairly well in most of our tests, with a slightly lower score when it comes to edge support. That’s where this cooling upgrade comes in. With better active cooling measures and superior edge support thanks to the coil layer, the Cooling Elite edges out ahead of the Hybrid Comfort for Canadians who need the best cooling and edge support on the Canadian market.
Competing Canadian Mattress Comparisons
Now we’ll look at how the Emma Hybrid Comfort stacks up when compared to other popular Canadian hybrid mattresses. Some of the best comparisons are with the Endy Hybrid and the Logan & Cove Choice.
Emma Hybrid Comfort vs Endy Hybrid
The Endy Hybrid is a budget-friendly hybrid with better motion isolation than most hybrid mattresses we tested. It features a relatively small comfort section atop a zoned coil base. It is comparable in price to the Emma Hybrid Comfort, but only uses two layers of comfort foam to keep pressure away.
Overall, the Emma Hybrid comfort just offers more. Both have a stabilizing foam layer below the coils, but the coils on the Emma Hybrid Comfort are of better quality. The layers of foam above the coils are much cooler in the Hybrid Comfort, making it a better choice for those who sleep hot.
Emma Hybrid Comfort vs Logan & Cove Choice
The Logan & Cove Choice is Logan & Cove’s basic mattress. It features a 2.5” total comfort section, which includes eco-conscious foams that are supportive and comfortable. The coil base is 9” with 5 different comfort zones to work with most body types.
Similarly, the Emma Hybrid Comfort is breathable and cool. The comfort layer is around the same size but uses three different layers of foam to provide a different experience entirely. The Hybrid Comfort is thicker, with a stabilizing layer to keep the coils from sagging. The coils themselves are arranged into 7 comfort zones instead of the Choice’s 5. This mattress will deliver more of what people want from the Logan & Cove Choice, though it comes at a higher price before discounts.
Should You Buy the Emma Hybrid Comfort?
The Emma Hybrid Comfort is a great choice for any Canadian seeking a durable, thick and supportive mattress. This mattress is ideal for side and back sleepers who need pressure relief and a firmer surface. We were impressed with the superior cooling properties, as well as the ability to be comfortable for all body types.
This Emma mattress is a bit more pricey than some other hybrid options in Canada, but we think that the number of features, paired with the long 365-night sleep trial and in-home setup option, make this a great value for the cost.
Highlights of the Emma Hybrid Comfort Mattress
There are a few areas where the Emma Hybrid Comfort mattress excels. It offers some of the best edge support we’ve seen in a Canadian mattress, for one. Second, the cooling and breathability of the mattress are better than the competition by far. These features help reduce strain and night sweats throughout the mattress, wicking away sweat and preventing the build-up of heat.
This mattress is also extremely supportive. The shorter comfort section allows for better support and less plush cushion, which may be appealing to some sleepers. Others may find this mattress too firm, but the support level is great for stomach and back sleepers of all sizes.
Areas for Improvement
A comfortable mattress has the right balance of firm support and comfortable foam layers. With just 1.5” of comfortable foam layers, the Emma Hybrid Comfort mattress falls a little short when it comes to pressure relief. This is the only area where this mattress falls short, as it excels in motion isolation, edge support, and cooling tests. Pressure relief could be improved by adding more layers of foam, or making each layer of foam thicker. Those looking for better pressure relief may find the Emma Cooling Elite mattress is more to their liking.
Our Recommendations for the Emma Hybrid Comfort
The Emma Hybrid Comfort is a great choice for back and stomach sleepers who prefer a firmer mattress. Side sleepers may want to avoid this mattress, as it doesn’t provide a comfortable level of pressure relief for those prone to deeper pressure points. However, heavier side sleepers may still find that this mattress delivers some measure of comfort.
Aside from that, this mattress is great for those who sleep hot, couples, and Canadians who like to sit or sleep near the edge of the bed. It’s got some bounce and an average response time, so most sleepers will find that it meets their needs (and even exceeds them in some cases).

The Emma Hybrid Comfort mattress is made around the world, with its headquarters located in Germany. If you buy a mattress in Canada, then you can expect your mattress to be made and shipped from their warehouse in Ontario. While Emma is not solely made in Canada, you take pride in buying a Canadian product.
How long is the sleep trial for Emma Hybrid Comfort?
With the longest sleep trial policy on the market, the Emma Hybrid Comfort has a 365-night policy. This sleep trial allows you an extended period to test it out risk-free. If you need to contact customer service at any time during the first year, you can request a full refund.
Does this mattress have good temperature control?
The Emma Hybrid Comfort has exceptional temperature control and is a mattress that we recommend for anyone who sleeps hot. Combining a moisture-wicking cover and two different layers of cooling gel foam, the Emma Hybrid actively reduces heat and sweat. Canadians who tend to wake up stuffy and warm will benefit from this mattress.
How is the Emma mattress delivered?

Addresses within Ontario have the option for in-home setup, which is an additional fee and requires someone to be home when delivering.
How much does an Emma mattress cost?
An Emma Hybrid Comfort mattress ranges in price from $1084 to $1899. While this is not the least expensive mattress on the market, its mid-range price point will appeal to many Canadians. At a 13” height and more layers than most other hybrid mattresses, we think the cost is worth the value that you receive.
