Emma Comfort vs Endy Hybrid

The Emma Comfort and Endy Hybrid mattresses are both popular options in Canada among people who are looking for a new mattress. Many people like hybrid mattresses because they combine the bounce and support of spring mattresses with the contouring of foam mattresses. You may have come across this article, if you have narrowed your options to Emma and Endy and now are unsure which is the better mattress match for you.

We at Slumber test and review mattresses so we can help people like you choose a mattress you will be happy with. Each mattress is given a score in a range of performance areas based on feedback from our testers and results from tests such as the sinkage test.

In this article, we use our results to compare the Emma Comfort and Endy Hybrid together so you can decide which of these mattresses would better meet your sleeping requirements.

Overview of Emma and Endy

Emma is a European mattress company that sells its mattresses in more than 30 countries across four continents. The company was founded in 2015 in Frankfurt, Germany and in just under a decade has built itself a reputation for manufacturing high-quality, long-lasting mattresses. The mattresses are made in various facilities including locations in the UK and Ireland. In Canada, Emma’s distribution centre is in Ontario.

Endy, which is a Canadian mattress company, was also launched in 2015. It is one of the original bed-in-a-box mattress manufacturers in Canada. Endy is known for high-standard craftsmanship and quality materials. All mattresses are made in Canada thus supporting the Canadian economy. Most of Endy’s mattresses are sold online but they also have a store in CF Sherway Gardens, Etobicoke, Ontario.

Sleep Trial, Warranty, and Delivery

Sleep Trial

One of the questions people often have when buying a mattress online is how will they know it is right for them when they cannot physically try them in a store. While it may be nice to see and feel a mattress before you buy, you cannot actually determine how a mattress will feel like in everynight use by lying on it for a few minutes in a store. It takes your body time to get used to a new mattress, which is why most online mattress retailers have sleep trials.

During a sleep trial, you use a mattress at home and if you are not happy with it, you can return it and receive a refund as long as the terms and conditions of the sleep trial are met. With Emma, you have 365 nights to make your mind up. Endy has a shorter sleep trial, 100 nights, but that is still enough time to see if a mattress supports you correctly so that you sleep comfortably.

If you are not happy with a mattress, you need to contact the company’s customer service before the trial period finishes. They will then arrange a pickup and initiate the refund. Note that if you buy an Endy mattress from a third party, you need to arrange your return with the third party and their terms and conditions may be different to mattresses bought directly from Endy.

Warranty

When you purchase a new mattress it will be covered against manufacturing and material defects under a warranty. The warranty is 15 years for the Endy Hybrid mattress and 10 years for the Emma Comfort mattress. The details of what is covered and how to claim under warranty differs between companies, so we recommend you always check the details with the company you are buying from.

Delivery

If you have been researching which mattress to get for a while, you have probably noticed that many online mattress companies offer free deliveries. Emma offers free delivery in Canada. They have a paid option that includes in-home setup but at the moment this service is only available for people living in Ontario. Delivery takes up to eight days to most parts of Canada. Ontario is faster, up to four days, because that is where Emma’s warehouse is.

Endy also offers a free delivery on their mattresses to most areas within the provinces. If you live in the territories or a very remote part of a province, you may have to pay for delivery which is currently $150. Endy aims to deliver all mattresses within a week from the date you order.

Differences in Emma Comfort and Endy Hybrid Mattress Construction

The Emma Comfort mattress is made with five layers that combine foam and coils. On the top are three layers of foam. The top layer is Airgocell foam and below that is a layer of cooling gel foam designed to keep you cooler while you sleep. The third foam layer is HRX foam for added support.

Next comes the layer of coils which are individually added for better motion isolation and arranged in seven ergonomic zones. The final layer of the mattress is high-density foam. This layer of foam is used to improve the mattress’s durability. All of these layers are covered with a soft and cool cover.

The Endy Hybrid has a quilted, plush cover for added pressure relief. The rest of the mattress consists of four layers. The first one is Endy Comfort foam. It is open-cell foam for better airflow and temperature regulation.

Below that is another layer of foam that is made with transition foam that helps to cushion pressure points and acts as a barrier between you and the coils in the next layer. The coil core of the Endy mattress has carbon steel pocket coils that are durable and arranged in zones for better lumbar support. The bottom layer is high-density foam to prevent sagging and improve durability.

Temperature Control

Emma Comfort 8.9/10; Endy Hybrid 9.2/10

The Emma Comfort and Endy Hybrid mattress both performed well in our temperature regulation tests where we test whether the mattress retains heat or wicks it away from the mattress. When a mattress has an effective cooling system, like these two have, you are less likely to overheat while you sleep and as a result you can sleep more comfortably through the whole night.

The Endy Hybrid was a little more effective than the Emma Comfort mattress in moving hot air away from the mattress. However, with these scores, we can recommend either mattress for even those Canadians who often sleep hot.

Motion Isolation

Emma Comfort 8.0/10; Endy Hybrid 6.4/10

At Slumber, we usually recommend that couples should look for mattresses that are rated at least 7.5 for motion isolation, especially if they have a restless partner. When a mattress has good motion isolation, vibrations are prevented from travelling across the mattress and disturbing the other person.

In this area, the Emma Comfort mattress performed considerably better than the Endy Hybrid. Our testers reported that they could feel considerably more movement on the Endy mattress compared to the Emma mattress. Therefore, if you share your bed, the Emma Comfort is likely to suit you better, especially if you are a light sleeper and often wake up when your partner moves.

Edge Support

Emma Comfort 8.0/10; Endy Hybrid 8.3/10

Another performance test we always test is how supportive the edge of the mattress is. A strong edge is important for people who like to sleep on the edge or who need more support getting in and out of the bed. A strong edge will prevent the mattress from sagging and make it more comfortable sleeping on the edge as you are less likely to feel like you are about to roll out of the bed.

The Endy Hybrid performed better than the Emma Comfort mattress but there was not a huge difference between their edges. Both mattresses have coils arranged in zones so that not only they support you better but also create a stronger edge that helps the mattress maintain its shape.

Firmness and Comfort

Emma Comfort 7.0/10; Endy Hybrid 6.5/10

When we at Slumber test mattresses, we give them a score based on the results of our tests and the feedback we receive from our testers. Out of these two mattresses, the Emma Comfort is a little firmer than the Endy Hybrid mattress but both are still within the rating for medium-firm mattresses.

Firmness Chart 7
The Emma Comfort is a 7 on our firmness scale.

Our mattress firmness scale runs from one to ten with softer mattresses getting a lower and firmer mattresses a higher score. Most mattresses in Canada are between four and seven on the scale and classified as medium-firm. Medium-firm mattresses suit the majority of Canadians and offer both support and contouring so you can sleep more comfortably.

Firmness Chart 6.5
The Endy Hybrid rates at a 6.5 on our firmness scale.

Other Mattresses from Emma and Endy

While the Emma Comfort and Endy Hybrid tick a lot of boxes for most Canadians, you may also like to check out the other mattresses from these two companies. Emma has two other mattresses that are the Emma Original and Emma Hybrid Premium. The Original is the company’s “basic” model and the Premium is the most luxurious mattress they offer.

Endy offers one alternative to the Endy Hybrid: the Endy foam mattress. Instead of coils, the mattress is made with layers of foam, with the coil layer replaced with dense polyfoam. The Endy foam mattress has better motion isolation than the Hybrid but it is not as efficient in providing pressure relief.
