Our Testing Process for Mattresses for Couples in Canada

How We Score Mattresses for Couples in Canada
Our mattress scores come from multiple testing sources. We test each mattress and assign it a score based on our results. Then, our testers give it a score based on their own time with the mattress. We average those scores to help get a better idea of how each mattress may work for you.
Our Testing Process for Mattresses for Couples
We test our mattresses using a combination of techniques, including practical tests, simulation tests, and testing feedback from our team of testers. We use weighted balls, measurement devices, and more when testing our mattresses. These tests, along with our extensive tester trials, help us determine how a mattress works in most conditions.
How We Choose Mattresses for Couples in Canada
To choose the mattresses on our list, we looked at options that had the best motion isolation first. Then we looked at other areas couples often look for, such as pressure relief, firmness options, and trial length.

Douglas Summit Mattress Construction

- CoolSense Cover. Douglas Summit’s removable cover is made with both CryoFusion cooling fibres and sustainable Infinitex threads. This makes it extremely cool to the touch.
- Cooling Foam and PCM. The top layer of foam is a cooling gel foam that is covered with a layer of phase-changing material. PCM only heats to a certain temperature before it starts moving heat away, so this layer helps keep your bed the same temperature throughout the night.
- Transition Foam. The middle layer is 2.5” of Elastex foam, a latex alternative that provides the same responsive properties as natural latex. This layer cradles your body and cushions pressure points for better sleep.
- Support Base. The supportive base of the mattress uses motion isolation foam for support. This layer is part of the reason the Douglas Summit is so good at isolating motion and balancing your body. It’s durable, comfortable, and helps the rest of the mattress do its job.
Douglas Summit Mattress Performance Scores
Temperature Control – 9.2/10
Temperature control is a major issue for a lot of Canadians, especially when it comes to all-foam mattresses. Douglas uses a cooling cover and phase-changing material in the Douglas Summit, which work together to make sure that most excess heat is neutralised.
Motion Isolation – 10/10
Douglas Summit was one of the first mattresses we tested to receive a perfect motion isolation score. To say we were impressed is an understatement. This mattress doesn’t budge even when your partner is tossing and turning on the other side of the bed, so those who prefer more motion isolation will love this mattress.
Pressure Relief – 10/10
Very few mattresses get a perfect pressure relief score from us, but the Douglas Summit managed it. This mattress effortlessly prevents pressure points from forming. Even side sleepers can wake up without uncomfortable pressure points.
Ease of Movement – 9.9/10
We expected this mattress to feel more traditional, and with that comes less ease of movement. While it still feels great, we were surprised to see how easy it was to move, turn over, and change positions. There is no ‘quicksand’ feeling with this all-foam mattress.

Who is the Douglas Summit For?
- Light sleepers. If you wake up to every little movement from the other side of the bed, the Douglas Summit can help. This mattress gets a perfect motion isolation score from us, which means you won’t feel anything on your partner’s most restless nights.
- Side sleepers. Side sleepers need pressure relief to stay comfortable throughout the night. With its perfect pressure relief score, you won’t find a better option than the Douglas Summit.
- Warmer sleepers. Waking up hot won’t be an issue with the Douglas Summit. Its cooling cover and phase-changing materials help maintain the perfect temperature for those who sleep hot.
Who Should Avoid the Douglas Summit?
- Those who like a bouncy mattress. The Douglas Summit stays still most of the time, which can be ideal for some Canadians. However, some like their mattress to be bouncy. If you want a mattress with a little more bounce, the Douglas Summit might not be the option for you.

Best All Foam – Silk & Snow

Best All Foam
Silk & Snow’s all-foam construction feels classic and comfortable. It can be a great first all-foam mattress for those who have never tried one before.
- Temperature Control: 8.0/10
- Motion Isolation: 9.4/10
- Edge Support: 8.1/10
- Pressure Relief: 9.7/10
- Bounce: 7.5/10
- Eco: 8.5/10
- Response: 8.9/10
- Ease of Movement: 9.1/10
- Policies: 9/10
Highlights
- Three firmness options help you control your comfort level
- Outstanding pressure relief score across all testing methods
- Motion isolation that goes beyond standard all-foam options
“The Silk & Snow mattress caught our eye because of its firmness options. We liked the idea of getting to choose how a mattress felt. We love our Plush Silk & Snow!”
— Slumber.ca Verified Mattress Review (Silk & Snow)
Silk & Snow Mattress Construction
The Silk & Snow Mattress offers three firmness options, including Firm, Medium-Firm, and Plush. Each is constructed a bit differently.
- Antimicrobial Cover. The cover of the Silk & Snow mattress helps keep odours and allergies at bay. Its antimicrobial properties prevent bacterial growth, so you’ll have a healthier sleeping surface overall.
- Gel Memory Foam. This layer cushions your body so you can fall asleep easily, with better pressure relief as the firmness options get softer. In the Firm version, this layer is 1.5” tall, while it is 2” tall in the Medium-Firm and Plush versions.
- Transition Foam. In the Medium-Firm and Plush versions, this layer of transition foam helps cushion the firmer support foam. It also adds additional support and helps with motion isolation.
- Support Core. The durable base foam core keeps you well-supported throughout all firmness options. In the Firm version, this layer is 7.5”. It is 6” tall in the Medium-Firm mattress and 8” tall in the Plush version.
Silk & Snow Mattress Performance Scores

Temperature Control – 8.0/10
Silk & Snow doesn’t have the best temperature control we’ve seen. That’s partly because it only uses cooling gel foam to reduce heat, which doesn’t do too much on its own. This is a classic memory foam issue. Hotter sleepers should choose a mattress with better temperature control properties.
Motion Isolation – 9.4/10
Motion isolation is the key factor for many couples, and the Silk & Snow mattress performs extremely well in this regard. Its high-density layers stop motion as it happens, reducing how much you can feel on the other side of the bed. Restless couples can sleep more comfortably on this mattress.
Pressure Relief – 9.7/10
Even the medium-firm version of this mattress has great pressure relief. It’s perfect for side sleepers and those who need a little more help getting comfortable without pressure points. For many of our testers, the pressure relief of this mattress was their favourite part.
Ease of Movement – 9.1/10
Despite the classic foam feel of the Silk & Snow mattress, it’s easier to move around on than the majority of mattresses. You’ll be able to turn over and find your most comfortable spot without the traditional memory foam “quicksand” feeling.
Who is the Silk & Snow Mattress For?
- Couples who need motion isolation. This mattress absorbs motion, keeping it from transferring to the other side of the bed. While it isn’t perfect, it’s strong enough that most couples can sleep comfortably even when their partner is tossing and turning.
- Those who want to choose their firmness. Three firmness options help you choose the mattress that works for you without sacrificing the performance you want.
- Classic memory foam lovers. If you love the feel of classic memory foam, the Silk & Snow mattress is one of the best mattresses in Canada for you. It’s a very traditional all-foam mattress that still performs extremely well.
Who Should Avoid the Silk & Snow Mattress?
Hot sleepers. One area where the Silk & Snow mattress struggles is with temperature control. If you sleep extremely hot, you may need to choose a mattress with better cooling properties.

Alternative Option
Silk & Snow is a great budget all-foam option, but it doesn’t offer the best performance in some areas. If you want an all-foam mattress that performs a little better overall without too much of a price increase, consider choosing the Endy mattress.
Best Cooling – Endy Mattress

Best Cooling
The open-cell foam used in the Endy Mattress makes it cooler than most all-foam options we’ve tested. This mattress is perfect for those who sleep a little warmer.
- Temperature Control: 9.3/10
- Motion Isolation: 9.6/10
- Edge Support: 9.7/10
- Pressure Relief: 8.1/10
- Bounce: 9.9/10
- Eco: 8/10
- Response: 10/10
- Ease of Movement: 10/10
- Policies: 8/10
Highlights
- Outstanding temperature control for an all-foam mattress
- Industry-leading motion isolation properties
- Great response, bounce, and ease of movement
“I didn’t think the Endy would live up to the hype, but now it’s the only mattress I recommend to my friends and family.”
— Slumber.ca Verified Mattress Review (Endy)
Endy Mattress Construction

Endy is now available in three different firmness options: Firm, Medium Firm, and Plush. These mattresses use the same construction, and only the thickness of the materials changes. We reviewed the Medium-Firm version of the mattress, but the layers of materials are the same in all versions.
- Quilted Cover. The removable cover on the Endy Mattress is quilted for additional comfort. It stretches over the foam and works well with all of your favourite sheet sets.
- Endy Comfort Foam. Endy’s open-cell comfort foam promotes better breathability, motion isolation, and support. This layer helps you fall asleep fast and keeps higher temperatures away through most of the night.
- Transition Foam. A middle layer of transition foam reduces motion transfer and cushions your deepest pressure points. This layer lifts you out of the strong support layer so you won’t feel the firmer foam, too.
- Support Foam. A core of high-density foam keeps your body balanced and provides outstanding support. This layer keeps the entire mattress in line, providing a boost to the layers above.
Endy Mattress Performance Scores
Temperature Control – 9.3/10
Though the Endy mattress has no active cooling features, the open-cell memory foam top layer does more than enough to mitigate heat. This layer moves air up through the mattress, removing heat by funneling it away from you throughout the night.
Motion Isolation – 9.6/10
For a while, Endy was the industry leader for motion isolation. Though other mattresses have stepped up their game to match it, Endy still performs extremely well here. We didn’t feel much (if any) motion from the other side of the bed during ball-drop tests, and our testers agreed that motion transfer was minimal at best.
Pressure Relief – 8.1/10
Pressure relief is one of the only areas where Endy didn’t perform well. Its pressure relief capabilities improve as the mattress gets softer, but most Canadians will still need stronger pressure relief. This is especially true for side sleepers, as they need great pressure relief to avoid developing uncomfortable pressure points.
Ease of Movement – 10/10
Endy makes it easy to change position without struggling. This mattress performs better than most of the mattresses we’ve tested when it comes to turning over or changing position. Our testers noted that they didn’t feel like they were stuck in place, and the materials responded quickly to accommodate their needs.
Who is the Endy Mattress For?
- Hot sleepers. Hot sleepers will appreciate the way this mattress deals with excess body heat, funneling it away from you so you can get more restful sleep.
- Those who move around a lot. It’s extremely easy to move around on this mattress without feeling stuck, so those who move around a lot can avoid the ‘quicksand’ feeling.
- Couples with different sleep preferences. The ability to choose your firmness level can allow couples to find a middle ground that appeals to different sleeping preferences.
Who Should Avoid the Endy Mattress?
- Heavier Canadians. If you need better pressure relief (or fear that a mattress may not keep you lifted out of the support layers), the Endy mattress might not be for you. It has adequate pressure relief for lightweight and average sleepers, but heavier sleepers may need thicker comfort layers and better pressure relief.
Factor | Endy Mattress |
Price | $895 (Queen) |
Sizes | Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, California King |
Firmness | Medium Firm |
Sinkage | ✅ 3.7 cm |
Response Time | ✅ 0.2 sec |
Motion Isolation | ✅ Strong |
Edge Support | ✅ Strong |
Bounce | ✅ Strong |
Sleeping Position | ✅ Side Sleeper ✅ Back Sleeper ⚠️ Stomach Sleeper |
Comfort Layer Height | 2.0” |
Support Layer Height | 10” |
Sleep Trial | 100 Nights |
Warranty | 15 Years |
Alternative Option
The Endy mattress is great for most Canadians, but it suffers a bit when it comes to pressure relief. If you want an all-foam mattress that performs much better for side sleepers and those who need additional pressure relief, consider the Douglas Summit.
Best Hybrid – Emma Performance

Best Hybrid
Hybrids usually don’t perform well when it comes to motion isolation, but the Emma Performance had surprising testing results.
- Temperature Control: 9.2/10
- Motion Isolation: 10/10
- Edge Support: 9.0/10
- Pressure Relief: 8.7/10
- Bounce: 9.6/10
- Eco: 7.0/10
- Response: 9.7/10
- Ease of Movement: 9.6/10
- Policies: 9/10
Highlights
- Perfect motion isolation score despite hybrid coils
- Temperature control eliminates night sweats
- Strong response and bounce
“It seemed impossible to find a mattress that offered the support of a hybrid and the motion isolation of an all-foam mattress. Despite all odds, the Emma Performance does both incredibly well.”
— Slumber.ca Verified Mattress Review (Emma Performance)
Emma Performance Mattress Construction
- UltraDry Cover. The soft Emma cover is removable and washable, so you can refresh your bed at home whenever you need to. It’s also breathable and wicks away moisture, leaving you less susceptible to night sweats.
- Temperature Control Foam. Emma uses a proprietary Thermosync foam to help reduce higher temperatures at the top of the mattress. You’ll be able to rest all night without feeling too hot because of the way this foam mitigates heat.
- Breathable Foam. The second layer is another proprietary material. Point Elastic Airgocell is made to release excess body heat, wick away moisture, and remove it from your sleep environment. This comfortable layer is the key to better temperature control.
- Adaptable Foam. MemoryAdapt Foam acts as a transition layer, contouring to your body to relieve pressure. This layer is responsible for most of the mattress’s superior motion isolation properties, as it contours to your body and stops vibrations as they happen.
- Support Foam. HRX foam helps support you, lifting you out of the coil layer and providing perfect firmness without any additional sinkage. This layer provides great response, but also helps keep sinkage from getting too severe.
- Pocket Coil Layer. The supportive pocket coil core is 7” thick. These individually wrapped coils provide airflow, maintain tension, and keep you supported without adding additional motion transfer.
- Stabilizing Foam. A layer of foam below the coils helps create a solid foundation for the coils. This layer maintains structural integrity and boosts the supportive properties of the other layers.
Emma Performance Mattress Performance Scores

Temperature Control – 9.2/10
Night sweats are common for Canadians, but this mattress can help. Layers of cooling materials paired with additional airflow make this mattress a good choice for warmer sleepers. Hotter sleepers may need more drastic cooling, but most will sleep just fine on the Emma Performance mattress.
Motion Isolation – 10/10
Motion isolation is the main factor that couples look for, but great motion isolation is rare for hybrid mattresses. That’s why the Emma Performance surprised us. Considering that most of the mattress’s height is made of coils, we didn’t expect it to provide near-total motion isolation.
Pressure Relief- 8.7/10
Pressure relief was one of the areas where the Emma Performance didn’t quite meet our expectations. Though this score is fine for most Canadians, some may not appreciate the thinner comfort layers. Heavier sleepers, in particular, may need a mattress with thicker comfort layers.
Ease of Movement – 9.6/10
Moderate sinkage and responsive materials make this mattress perfect for those who need to move around a lot. You are far less likely to feel as though you are stuck in the mattress, allowing for a much greater range of motion for those who need to readjust often.
Who is the Emma Performance For?
- Restless couples. If you want support without sacrificing motion isolation, the Emma Performance is the perfect choice. Though it is a hybrid mattress, it doesn’t transfer motion across the coils. You’ll get near-total relief from this option.
- Combination sleepers. If you frequently change sleeping positions throughout the night, this mattress can make the process easier. Its responsiveness and ease of movement make it simple to change position, even after you’ve slept in the same spot for hours.
- Hot sleepers. Every material used within the Emma performance adds some measure of temperature control. Hot sleepers may be able to get more restful sleep on this mattress.
Who Should Avoid the Emma Performance?
- Heavier Canadians. While the Emma Performance is ideal for most Canadians, heavier sleepers may want to reconsider. Despite its multiple comfort layers, they are relatively thin. This may cause you to bottom out in the mattress and feel the strong coil layer below.
Factor | Emma Performance Mattress |
Price | $1,299 (Queen) |
Sizes | Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, California King |
Firmness | Medium Firm |
Sinkage | ✅ 4.8 cm |

Edge Support | ✅ Strong |
Bounce | ✅ Strong |
Sleeping Position | ⚠️ Side Sleepers ✅ Back Sleepers ✅ Stomach Sleepers |
Comfort Layer Height | 2.5” |
Support Layer Height | 11.5” |
Sleep Trial | 100 Nights |
Warranty | 10 Years |
Alternative Option
If you aren’t sold on a hybrid mattress, the Douglas Summit might be the right all-foam option for you. It has comparable performance in most areas, with some improved features, thicker comfort layers, and a longer sleep trial.
Best Motion Isolation – Nectar Premier Copper

Best Motion Isolation
The Nectar Premier Copper gets a perfect motion isolation score from us. While this isn’t unusual on this list, it’s a standout feature when compared to other mattresses we’ve tested.
- Temperature Control: 9.1/10
- Motion Isolation: 10/10
- Edge Support: 7.2/10
- Pressure Relief: 9.1/10
- Bounce: 6.0/10
- Eco: 5.0/10
- Response: 9.3/110
- Ease of Movement: 9.4/10
- Policies: 10/10
Highlights
- Perfect motion isolation score
- Great response and ease of movement
- Lifetime warranty
“My husband is a restless sleeper and I’ve spent many nights awake because of it. The Nectar Premier Copper has changed that for us. I’m getting more sleep than ever!”
— Slumber.ca Verified Mattress Review (Nectar Premier Copper)
Nectar Premier Copper Mattress Construction

- Cooling Cover. Nectar’s dual-action copper cover uses heat-absorbing fibres to remove excess heat, so you don’t wake up with uncomfortable night sweats.
- 4” Gel Memory Foam. The top layer inside the Nectar Premier Copper is 4” of gel-infused memory foam. This layer is CertiPUR-US Certified and helps contour to your body for increased pressure relief.
- 3” Transition Layer. The middle transition layer is a full 3” thick, which is larger than a lot of transition layers we’ve looked at. This layer cushions deep pressure points, adds additional airflow, and helps with response.
- ActiveSupport Base. The foam base of this mattress is 7” thick and provides critical structural support for the mattress, as well as balance for your body.
Nectar Premier Copper Mattress Performance Scores
Temperature Control – 9.1/10
Nectar Premier Copper’s Copper cover and gel-infused memory foam help reduce heat at the surface of the mattress. The transition layer also improves airflow. These materials work together to provide great cooling potential for individuals who tend to sleep warm. This should bring relief to all but those who sleep extremely hot.
Motion Isolation – 10/10
Nectar Premier Copper is one of the few mattresses we’ve tested to get a perfect motion isolation score. This mattress keeps motion from moving to the other side of the bed, and performed extremely well throughout all of our testing phases. Our testers agreed that this bed was incredibly still and comfortable, even when there was motion from the other side of the bed.
Pressure Relief – 9.1/10
The thick comfort layers make this mattress perfect for those who need a bit of extra pressure relief. Even heavier sleepers are unlikely to ‘bottom out’ and hit the support layers when they sink into the mattress. Instead, you’ll find deep contouring and pressure relief. The sinkage is deep, but these thicker foam layers mean you’ll never feel uncomfortable because of it.
Ease of Movement – 9.4/10
Despite the deeper sinkage and pressure relief performance from this mattress, it’s still easy to move around. If you need to turn over or change position in the middle of the night, you won’t feel stuck in your body indent and unable to get comfortable. Instead, this mattress allows you to move as much as you want without encountering any difficulty.
Who is the Nectar Premier Copper For?
- Couples with restless partners. If you are tired of waking up every time your partner turns over or gets out of bed, this mattress is the right choice. Its perfect motion isolation score means you won’t feel anything from the other side of the bed.
- Those who have a bit more to spend. While the Nectar Premier Copper isn’t an extreme luxury mattress, it does command a higher price when compared to some of the other options on our list.
- Canadians who move around as they sleep. If you need to move around to get comfortable, this mattress won’t hinder your ability to do so.
Who Should Avoid the Nectar Premier Copper?
- Edge sleepers. Though this mattress performs well in most categories, it lacks strong edge support. Those who sleep near the edge may encounter a sharp drop in support further from the centre of the mattress.

Alternative Option
If you are on a tighter budget, consider the Silk & Snow mattress. It offers great motion isolation, as well as some comparable performance in a few categories. The Silk & Snow mattress also happens to be half the price of the Nectar Premier Copper, so it’s not a bad choice for budget shoppers.
