Slumber.ca Mattress Testing Process

Our Scoring Process for Mattresses
Each of our mattresses was put through our gauntlet of mattress tests. We looked at how they performed under various circumstances, across diverse testing groups, and with high-tech equipment. Our scores are a composite of the results from various tests, testers, and expert opinions.
Our Mattress Tests
To test our mattresses, we used practical and simulation tests. We used temperature mapping, weighted ball drops, and more to simulate how the mattress might react under different circumstances. We also used practical tests, where our testers put each mattress through its paces and marked their results.
How We Chose Our Mattresses
Our mattresses are chosen from a pool of the best mattress companies in Canada. We look for those who have consistently great products, as well as options with a ton of great user reviews. Once we have selected our mattresses, we narrow the field down to a tight range of mattresses that we believe will work best for most Canadians.

— Slumber.ca Verified Mattress Review (Silk & Snow Hybrid)
Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress Construction

Firm Version
- Antimicrobial Cover. The cover has antimicrobial properties, which keeps your bed fresh and clean.
- Quilted Layer. A top layer of quilted foam keeps the surface of the mattress soft and comfortable.
- 1″ Supportive Relief Layer. A layer of high-quality foam provides pressure relief and additional support for side and back sleepers.
- 9” Pocket Coil Base with Zoned Support. A thick 9″ support layer features pocketed coils. They are firmer across the middle and softer at your shoulders and knees to reduce discomfort and pressure points.
- Firm Edge Support. A perimeter of firmer support foam reduces sagging at the edges of the mattress, so it holds firm when you sit or sleep there.
Medium-Firm Version
- Antimicrobial Cover. The cover of the mattress is completely antimicrobial, which prevents the growth of bacteria. This may reduce odours and staining.
- Quilted Layer. A layer of quilted foam adds some additional plushness to the sleeping surface. The quilting adds some temperature relief, too.
- Cooling Pressure Relief. The middle of the mattresses uses a 2” layer of gel-infused memory foam. This high-density foam cushions your pressure points and relieves higher temperatures, preventing heat from building up within the mattress.
- 8” Pocket Coil Base with Zoned Lumbar Support. The supportive base of the mattress uses up to 1,200 pocket coils to align your spine and add additional support.
- Firm Edge Support. A perimeter of edge support foam surrounds the coils, adding a firmer edge that won’t sag or sink.
Plush Version
- Antimicrobial Cover. The cover of the mattress uses the same antimicrobial technology so that your sleep surface is always fresh.
- Cooling Fabric. An infusion of cooling fabric on the surface of the mattress increases temperature control and decreases heat.
- Quilted Layer. A thin layer of quilted memory foam makes the mattress a little easier on your joints, with increased pressure relief and better comfort overall.
- Deep Pressure Relief. You’ll find a 2” layer of high-density memory foam in the middle of the mattress. This layer works for deeper relief from pressure points, so you can wake up without discomfort.
- Transition Layer. A 2” layer of high-density polyfoam cushions your body, keeping you lifted out of the supportive coils below.
- Pocket Coil Base with Zoned Lumbar Support. The pocket coil base is 8” thick and includes zoned lumbar support elements. This means that thicker coils through the centre of the mattress make it comfortable for those with back pain.
- Firm Edge Support. A perimeter of firm foam helps reduce sinking and sagging at the edges. You’ll get the same level of comfort from one end of the mattress to the other.
Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress Performance Scores

Temperature Control – 8.9/10
The Silk & Snow Hybrid offers some cooling properties, but it may not be suitable for those who sleep hot. During testing, there was a sharp increase in temperature after only a few hours of use. Heat dissipated slowly, which may be uncomfortable for some Canadians. Those who only sleep a little warm will find it cool enough.
Motion Isolation – 9.2/10
The motion isolation from this mattress was enough for most of our testers. Those who sometimes wake up with larger movements will find that this mattress isolates motion well. However, Canadians who often wake up when their partner turns over may need something with a bit more motion isolation. Our practical and drop tests showed that smaller motions were cancelled, but most larger movements could still be felt on the other side of the bed,
Pressure Relief- 8.6/10
The Medium Firm version of the mattress relieves pressure well, but may not be enough for some heavier sleepers. Still, this version of the mattress is the best option in this lineup for heavier Canadians. Our heavier testers thought that the Plush version of the Silk & Snow Hybrid allowed them to sink in a bit too much.
Ease of Movement – 9.4/10
On the other hand, it is much easier to move around on the Medium Firm version of this mattress. The Plush version may feel a bit like quicksand, as the materials do not respond as quickly. The Medium Firm version is responsive enough so you can easily roll over and move around without fear of discomfort.
Who is the Silk & Snow Hybrid For?
- Those who need pressure relief. No matter which option you choose, the Silk & Snow Hybrid provides amazing pressure relief.
- Canadians who want a choice. You can choose one of two firmness options, including Medium Firm and Plush.
- Those on a budget. The Medium-Firm version of the Silk & Snow Hybrid is $900 for a Queen, which is inexpensive for a hybrid mattress.
Who Should Avoid the Silk & Snow Hybrid?
- Those who want a Plush mattress for less. While the Plush version is a nice addition to the Silk & Snow lineup, the Plush upgrade for this mattress costs $900 more than the Medium-Firm version. That’s not cost-effective for most Canadians.

Best Luxury Hybrid – Logan & Cove Frontier

Best Luxury Hybrid
The Logan & Cove Frontier is a luxurious option with a host of features you won't find elsewhere, including proprietary materials, high-quality foams, and the performance metrics to back it all up.
- Temperature Control: 9.2/10
- Motion Isolation: 7.1/10
- Edge Support: 9.7/10
- Pressure Relief: 9.4/10
- Bounce: 9.0/10
- Eco: 9.2/10
- Response: 9.0/10
- Ease of Movement: 9.3/10
- Policies: 9.5/10
Highlights
- Pressure relief for side sleepers
- Edge support helps those who sit or sleep near the edge
- Two coil layers promote better support than a single one alone
“The Logan & Cove Frontier feels luxurious but doesn’t touch the prices of some of the other options we looked at. It works perfectly for us.”
— Slumber.ca Verified Mattress Review (Logan & Cove Frontier)
Logan & Cove Frontier Mattress Construction
- Quilted Euro-Top. A premium cover is made with CryoFusion nanofibres, which have natural cooling properties. The surface is plush, and inside is breathable hollow-fibre fill, followed by quilted gel-infused foam. It creates a soft sleeping surface.
- 1” ecoLuxe Gel Foam. The top layer of this mattress is made with ecoLuxe cooling foam, which works great for pressure relief. It also helps dissipate heat, making it more comfortable for most Canadians to sleep. If you usually sleep hot, this is a great option for you.
- 1” Aeroduct Micro Coils. A middle layer of microcoils helps with cooling and pressure relief. These coils contour to your body and introduce extra airflow to the center of the mattress.
- 1 ⅝” Elastex Foam. A transition layer of Elastex foam separates the coil layers. This foam is a soy-infused latex alternative that works to cushion your deepest pressure points. No matter how you sleep, this layer can make you more comfortable.
- 9” Pocket Coil Support Layer. A 9” layer of zoned pocket pockets makes this mattress extremely supportive. There are five comfort zones, with firmer zones through the centre of the mattress and around the edges.
Logan & Cove Frontier Mattress Performance Scores
Temperature Control – 9.2/10
The Logan & Cove Frontier offers better-than-average temperature control throughout the night. This mattress doesn’t get too hot, and the heat that does build up doesn’t take long to dissipate. We noted a consistent and steady drop in temperature throughout the night, so hotter sleepers can stay comfortable.
Motion Isolation – 7.1/10
The one area where this mattress doesn’t quite stack up is motion isolation. Our practical and ball-drop tests didn’t return horrible results, but it is difficult for us to recommend this mattress to those who often wake up when their partner tosses and turns. The materials simply don’t dampen motion very well, and we could feel even smaller movements (such as texting or fidgeting) from the other side of the bed.
Pressure Relief- 9.4/10
Layers of plush materials within the Logan & Cove Frontier lead to better pressure relief than some of the other options on this list. The micro-coils lead to better body contouring and support without the push-back from foam, meaning fewer pressure points and less discomfort as you sleep.
Ease of Movement – 9.3/10
Even though this mattress offers a lot of great pressure relief, that doesn’t affect ease of movement. This mattress doesn’t make you feel stuck, and you are still able to turn over and move around easily. Our testers noted that it was effortless to turn over, even when they’d been lying in the same position for a long time.

Who is the Logan & Cove Frontier For?
- Side sleepers. Side sleepers need a lot of support and pressure relief. The Logan & Cove Frontier mattress offers both.
- Canadians who sleep hot. While the temperature control in this mattress isn’t the best we’ve seen, it will work fine for all but the hottest sleepers.
- Those who move around a lot at night. Combination sleepers and those who move around a lot at night can move around easily on the surface of this mattress.
Who Should Avoid the Logan & Cove Frontier?
- Light sleepers. If you usually wake up at every movement from your partner, you may need a mattress that offers better motion isolation.

Alternative Option
The Logan & Cove Frontier is a hybrid mattress that doesn’t offer great motion isolation. If you need a mattress that keeps still while your partner moves around, you should consider the Douglas Summit. It’s an all-foam mattress, but it dampens virtually all movement from the other side of the mattress.
Best Pressure Relief – Douglas Summit

Best Pressure Relief
Douglas Summit earned a perfect score in pressure relief, making it the best mattress in Canada for those who want to avoid uncomfortable pressure points.
- Temperature Control: 9.2/10
- Motion Isolation: 10/10
- Edge Support: 9.7/10
- Pressure Relief: 10/10
- Bounce: 7.5/10
- Eco: 9.3/10
- Response: 10/10
- Ease of Movement: 9.9/10
- Policies: 10/10
Highlights
- Surprising edge support for an all-foam mattress
- Extremely fast response time
- Isolates nearly all motion from the other side of the bed
“My wife and I are both side sleepers. We both love the Douglas Summit and wake up well-rested every morning.”
— Slumber.ca Verified Mattress Review (Douglas Summit)
Douglas Summit Mattress Construction

- Douglas CoolSense Cover with CryoFusion Cooling Nanofibres. This removable, machine-washable cover is made with Infinitex, with CryoFusion nanofibres woven in for additional cooling. It’s extremely soft and breathable enough for the hottest sleepers.
- 2.5” Luxury ecoLight Gel Foam with Polar Temperature Balancing. A layer of Polar temperature-balancing phase-changing material maintains the same comfortable temperature throughout the night. It is infused right into the top of the ecoLight cooling foam, which helps isolate temperatures and remove deep pressure points.
- 2.5” Premium Elastex Foam. A transition layer of latex-alternative foam cushions your deepest pressure points and adds responsiveness to the mattress.
- 7” Motion Isolation Support Foam. The dense base is extremely durable. This layer dampens motion from the other side of the bed and aligns your body to reduce discomfort.
Douglas Summit Mattress Performance Scores

Temperature Control – 9.2/10
The Douglas Summit uses several temperature control features, including phase-changing material. Of course, it works well for most Canadians. The hottest sleepers may need a mattress with a few more cooling features. However, we noted that heat dissipated quickly when we tested the mattress, leading to a lack of any real heat build-up throughout the night. That’s good news for Canadians with night sweats.
Motion Isolation – 10/10
The Douglas Summit offers stunning motion isolation. The levels of isolation here are more than nearly any other option on our list. Both our practical and simulation tests returned outstanding results, with most testers not feeling any motions from the other side of the bed. Even larger movements, such as getting out of bed, couldn’t be felt.
Pressure Relief- 10/10
The layers of this mattress work together to deliver outstanding pressure relief. Our heavier testers and side sleepers reported that they woke up without pressure points, even if they usually had some discomfort in the morning. This mattress cradles your body without any pushback that can result in discomfort.
Ease of Movement – 9.9/10
Even with the outstanding pressure relief, the materials within the Douglas Summit respond extremely quickly. We personally witnessed how quickly the surface of the mattress springs back into shape when you turn over or move away. This mattress never felt like quicksand, striking a perfect balance between pressure relief and ease of movement.

Who is the Douglas Summit For?
- Couples with restless partners. If you often wake up because your partner is restless, this is the perfect mattress for you. It has some of the highest motion isolation scores on the Canadian market to keep you asleep while your partner tosses and turns.
- Combination sleepers. The materials react extremely quickly. You won’t feel like you are stuck in the mattress, and you will be able to move around easily.
- Side sleepers. The excellent pressure relief is perfect for side sleepers. You won’t develop uncomfortable pressure points under your joints when you choose this mattress.
Who Should Avoid the Douglas Summit?
- Those who like a little bounce. If you are looking for a mattress that gives you more feedback, you should probably consider another mattress.

Alternative Option
It’s hard to beat the Douglas Summit, but you may need something with a bit more support. If you need stronger support from within the mattress, consider the Silk & Snow Organic. This mattress is extremely supportive and comfortable. Plus, it comes in three different firmness options that are suited to your needs.
Best Eco-Conscious – Silk & Snow Organic

Best Eco-Conscious
The Silk & Snow Organic is made with fully natural and organic materials. It's one of the best eco-conscious options you'll find in Canada.
- Temperature Control: 9.1/10
- Motion Isolation: 7.2/10
- Edge Support: 9.0/10
- Pressure Relief: 8.9/10
- Bounce: 7.8/10
- Eco: 10/10
- Response: 8.5/10
- Ease of Movement: 9.4/10
- Policies: 9/10
Highlights
- Organic, eco-conscious materials with transparent sources
- Three distinct firmness options to appeal to all sleepers
- Strong lumbar support
“We wanted an organic mattress, and Silk & Snow was one of the best options for us. We’re glad we chose this mattress over the others we tried.”
— Slumber.ca Verified Mattress Review (Silk & Snow Organic)
Silk & Snow Organic Mattress Construction

- GOTS-Certified Organic Cotton Cover. The soft, breathable cover is made with organic cotton. It is extremely soft and cool, but it isn’t removable.
- GOTS-Certified Organic Wool Quilt Layer. A layer of organic wool is quilted right into this cover. This layer provides pressure relief and wicks away sweat. It’s a natural fire retardant, so the rest of the mattress doesn’t need to use chemicals.
- Plush and Medium Firm Only – 0.8” Quilted Latex Layer. A thin layer of quilted latex helps with comfort and support as the mattress gets softer.
- 0.8” GOLS-Certified Latex Layer. A comfort layer of organic layer provides deeper pressure point relief, but it also helps isolate motion from the other side of the bed. In the Medium Firm version, this layer is 1.5” thick. In the Plush version, it is 3.5” thick.
- Pocket Coil Base with Zoned Support. Up to 1,200 pocket coils are used in the zoned coil base, which prioritizes support and comfort. Firmer coils align your spine, keeping you comfortable throughout the night.
- Edge Support Perimeter. A perimeter of firmer coils reduces sagging when you sit or sleep toward the outer edges of the mattress.
- Durable Base Foam. A layer of extremely durable base foam helps the mattress keep its shape for longer, reducing sagging and breakdown.
Silk & Snow Organic Mattress Performance Scores

Temperature Control – 9.1/10
Despite the lack of active cooling features, this mattress performs well when it comes to temperature control. The Firm version sleeps the coolest, and would therefore be best for hotter sleepers. The Plush version tends to gather heat. We noticed more heat building up over time in that mattress, but it dissipated quickly enough. Our testers noticed that the softer the mattress got, the more heat they felt. Still, it wasn’t a problem for most of them.
Motion Isolation – 7.2/10
All versions of this mattress have poor motion isolation. The Plush version has the best motion isolation, as it has a thicker comfort layer. However, all of our testing returned less-than-ideal results across all mattress versions. The plush version still transferred more motion than we liked to see during our practical testing rounds.
Pressure Relief- 8.9/10
The materials inside the Silk & Snow Organic make it great for pressure relief. Of course, the pressure relief only increases as the mattress gets softer. The Plush version is best for pressure relief but may lack some of the stronger support Canadians need. Each mattress returned good results, though the Plush version had higher performance scores.
Ease of Movement – 9.4/10
It’s easy to move around on top of the mattress. Even the Plush version made it easy to turn over, though the Firm version had it easiest. Our testers thought the Medium Firm version struck a nice balance between comfort and ease of movement, so most sleepers should enjoy that option.
Who is the Silk & Snow Organic For?
- Edge sleepers. This mattress maintains firmness and support right to the edge, which is helpful if you tend to sleep closer to it.
- Users who need less bounce. If you don’t need much feedback from your mattress, you’ll love how little this mattress bounces.
- Those who sleep warm. The temperature control within this mattress is perfect for those who only occasionally wake up with night sweats.
Who Should Avoid the Silk & Snow Organic?
- Couples. Mild motion isolation may not be the best for couples, especially if one person is more restless or sleeps lighter than the other.

Alternative Option
The Silk & Snow Organic Mattress doesn’t provide the greatest motion isolation. If you need to stay asleep while your partner tosses and turns, consider the Douglas Summit. Even though this is an all-foam option, it received a perfect motion isolation score through our tests.
Best All Foam – Octave Vista

Best All Foam
The Octave Vista is one of the best memory foam mattresses in Canada. This option is inexpensive, full of high-quality materials, and performs perfectly for its price point.
- Temperature Control: 8.1/10
- Motion Isolation: 8.1/10
- Edge Support: 9.7/10
- Pressure Relief: 7.9/10
- Bounce: 7.8/10
- Eco: 8.5/10
- Response: 9.2/10
- Ease of Movement: 9.3/10
- Policies: 9/10
Highlights
- Outstanding edge support from an all-foam mattress.
- Affordable price for the basic lineup model.
- Extremely responsive materials make it easier to move around at night.
“Octave Vista has been good for us since the day it arrived. We love how responsive it is and how well the edges are supported.”
— Slumber.ca Verified Mattress Review (Octave Vista)
Octave Vista Mattress Construction
- CryoFusion Cooling Nanofibre Cover. The cover is breathable and cool, with enough cooling power that you will feel refreshed from the moment you lie down. It is woven with CryoFusion nanofibres, which wick away sweat and moisture.
- 2” CopperGel Memory Foam + PolarMAX. The top layer of foam is high-performance memory foam. It is infused with copper to naturally conduct heat away from you. It also features two bands of phase-changing material to keep the centre of the mattress cooler.
- 2” Premium Elastex Foam. A transition layer of Elastex, a latex alternative foam, brings some pressure relief for lighter sleepers. It also provides a lot of responsiveness, which is important for those who need to move around at night.
- 8” Multi-Zone Support Foam with Air Channels. The base of the mattress features ultra-durable foam with multiple air channels. These air channels help with breathability, but they also relieve pressure by providing collapse points that support you exactly where you need them.
Octave Vista Mattress Performance Scores
Temperature Control – 8.1/10
As the Octave Vista is the least expensive all-foam mattress from Octave, we didn’t expect much temperature control before our tests. We were pleasantly surprised that there seemed to be some measure of temperature control, probably due to the phase-changing materials used in the mattress. It won’t be enough for those who sleep hot (or even moderately warm), but it may work for those who don’t sleep too hot.
Motion Isolation – 8.1/10
Motion isolation from the Octave Vista won’t be enough for most sleepers. Though it is an all-foam mattress, the materials are lighter and less dense than most other all-foam mattress. We noted a lot of motion from our practical and weight drop testing phases, especially with testers getting out of bed. If you have a restless partner, another mattress may be a better choice for you.
Pressure Relief- 7.9/10
Pressure relief is, unfortunately, not great. This mattress does allow you to sink in, but it also returns much of the pressure you exert upon it. This means that your joints may feel the result of that pressure after hours of sleeping on your side. Our side-sleeping testers, particularly heavier sleepers, reported some pressure points after a long night of rest.
Ease of Movement – 9.3/10
This mattress shines when it comes to ease of movement. The materials move back into place quickly, even when you have been lying in the same spot all night. Our testers said moving didn’t take any additional effort. After hours of laying in the same position, it was easy to turn over and get out of bed.
Who is the Octave Vista For?
- Canadians who move around a lot. The quick response time is ideal for those who move around during the night, particularly those who change position often.
- Edge sleepers. Those who sleep near the edge of the mattress will find the same level of support there. This mattress’s edges don’t sink or sag when you sit or sleep there.
- Users who need a responsive surface. The Octave Summit has a quick material response time, making it one of the best options for those who need the surface to reform quickly.
Who Should Avoid the Octave Vista?
- Those who need better pressure relief. The Octave Vista may not be suitable for heavier sleepers or those who require more pressure relief.

The Octave Vista is an all-foam mattress that may not provide much cooling. If you need a cooler rest, consider the Douglas Summit. It is more expensive but offers greater cooling properties for those who sleep hot.
Best Budget – Juno Mattress

Best Budget
Juno is one of the least expensive bed-in-a-box mattresses in Canada. Despite its lower cost, it's a high-quality mattress that performed well in our tests.
- Temperature Control: 8.9/10
- Motion Isolation: 8.0/10
- Edge Support: 7.0/10
- Pressure Relief: 9.3/10
- Bounce: 7.5/10
- Eco: 7.0/10
- Response: 8.9/10
- Ease of Movement: 8.9/10
- Policies: 8/10
Highlights
- Low price point for Canadians on a budget
- Oustanding pressure relief scores for a thinner mattress
- Cool+ cover upgrade ($79) adds additional cooling properties
“Juno was the perfect choice for our guest room. All our guests love staying over since we bought this mattress.”
— Slumber.ca Verified Mattress Review (Juno)
Juno Mattress Construction
- Juno Knit Cover (Cool+ Add-On Available). The knit cover is extremely comfortable and smooth. It’s soft to the touch. The Cool+ add-on promotes additional cooling and breathability.
- 2” Cooling Gel Foam. A 2” layer of cooling gel foam at the top of the mattress keeps you cool and comfortable. This foam helps isolate heat and move it away from you, all the while cushioning your body to relieve pressure.
- 6” Total Support Foam. The base of the mattress uses extremely supportive foam. It helps with alignment for side sleepers, as well as some light motion isolation for couples.
Juno Mattress Performance Scores
Temperature Control – 8.9/10
The surface of the Juno mattress uses multiple cooling materials to reduce higher temperatures. It lowers the temperature at the surface of the mattress and the core, so heat doesn’t get much of a chance to build up. Some of our hottest testers reported temperature increases, but most slept comfortably.
Motion Isolation – 8.0/10
The Juno mattress features moderate motion isolation. It may not be enough for lighter sleepers who wake up with every movement from the other side of the bed. Still, those who sleep a little deeper or don’t have restless partners will appreciate the level of motion isolation here. In our practical tests, we noted that you could feel larger movements and some smaller vibrations from the other side of the bed.
Pressure Relief- 9.3/10
Because of the thinner layers on top of the Juno mattress, we weren’t sure how this mattress would perform when it came to pressure relief. Surprisingly, this mattress gets fairly good scores across the board. The moderate sinkage levels allow for better relief than we thought possible. Heavier sleepers may need better pressure relief, but most of our testers did just fine here.
Ease of Movement – 8.9/10
You won’t feel stuck in the Juno mattress. It’s a thinner option, which means the comfort layers aren’t as thick as other mattresses. As a result, it’s easier to move around on the mattress. None of our testers noted any exceptional difficulty while they tried to turn over or move around. The material sprang back into place rather quickly.
Who is the Juno For?
- Canadians who need pressure relief. This mattress has surprising pressure relief for its thinner comfort layers. The cooling gel foam layer helps reduce strain on your joints, and average Canadians shouldn’t be uncomfortable.
- Budget shoppers. The Juno mattress is extremely affordable, with a Queen available at $499 ($578 with the Cool+ Cover).
- Children and lightweight sleepers. The comfort layer within the Juno mattress is relatively thin. While this isn’t ideal for heavier sleepers, children and lightweight sleepers should be fine.
Who Should Avoid the Juno?
- Couples and co-sleepers. The Juno doesn’t offer great motion isolation. Light sleepers will still wake up when their partner moves around. If you need motion isolation, you may want to consider a different mattress.

Alternative Option
The Juno is an all-foam option, but it is extremely thin. If you want a thicker, plusher mattress, consider the Douglas Summit or the Octave Vista. These two options feature thicker comfort layers and better pressure relief. If you want a hybrid with these features, consider the Logan & Cove Frontier.
