Overview of Silk & Snow and Endy

Endy and Silk & Snow are both companies that sell mattresses mostly online. However, Endy has recently opened a store in CF Sherway Gardens, while Silk & Snow has two physical locations: one in Toronto and the other in Ottawa. Not having a chain of physical stores lowers the costs and both companies reflect these savings in their mattress prices.

Endy is among the original bed-in-a-box brands in Canada. It started in 2015 and has since become one of the best-known brands in its field. Silk & Snow is a newer brand having started in 2017, but has also quickly carved itself a firm position as one of the most popular Canadian mattress brands.

Silk & Snow and Endy both manufacture their mattresses in Canada. Silk & Snow has its facilities in Toronto, while Endy mattresses are made in Montreal. By making their mattresses in Canada, the companies can ensure their high quality while reducing impact on the environment and supporting the Canadian economy.

Silk & Snow Vs Endy Mattress Price Comparison

While the Endy mattress is more expensive than the Silk & Snow mattress, the price difference is not huge and both can be considered budget-friendly mattresses. That is budget-friendly while still delivering comfort and quality because you can find cheaper mattresses, but with them, you often have to compromise on your comfort.

The biggest difference is in the price of the full-size mattress (also called the double) for the other sizes, the difference is between $75 and $95. If you are keen to get your mattresses for less, look out for promos and discounts which both companies run fairly frequently.

Mattress Sizes

The Endy and Silk & Snow mattresses come in standard sizes from twin to California king. The Endy twin mattresses are an inch wider but that doesn’t really change your sleeping experience. They will also fit in most standard bed frames despite being a little wider. The all-foam mattresses are ten inches high and their lengths are the same from Endy and Silk & Snow.

Neither company lists the split king option separately. However, the split king bed is formed with two twin XL mattresses, so from Endy, the width of a split king would be 78” and from Silk & Snow 76”.  Both mattresses feature RV mattress sizes for comfort on the go.

Mattress Construction and Performance

The Silk & Snow and Endy mattresses we are comparing here are both all-foam mattresses. If you are interested in their other mattresses, we have included a short description of them towards the end of the article.

The construction and materials of the mattress will determine how well the mattress performs in use, for example, whether it isolates movement or feels firm or soft. Below, we cover how the two mattresses are constructed before comparing our test results.

Differences in Silk & Snow And Endy Mattress Construction

The Silk & Snow and Endy mattresses have similar constructions since they are both made with three separate layers of foam. The covers are removable to make it easier to keep your mattress fresher and more hygienic. The Silk & Snow mattress cover is antibacterial to prevent bacteria and odours. The Endy cover is breathable, quilted polyester that feels soft to the touch.

The top layer of the Silk & Snow foam mattress is high-density gel memory foam to improve airflow. In the middle is a transition foam layer and the final layer, which is six inches thick, is high-density support foam which not only supports you while you sleep, but also the mattress so it keeps its shape for longer.

The Endy foam mattress has a layer of Endy Comfort foam at the top which is intended to help with temperature control. Similarly to the Silk & Snow mattress, the middle is transition foam and the bottom layer is high-density foam. In the Endy, the final layer is 5″ thick compared to 6″ in the Silk & Snow. However, it still works well to support you and to improve the mattress’s durability.

Both the Silk & Snow and Endy Mattresses are available in three firmness options. For the Silk & Snow Mattress, your choices are Firm, Medium Firm, and Plush. The Endy comes in Firm, Medium, and Plush. We compared the Medium-Firm and Medium versions of the mattress for the sake of this review, but the Silk & Snow Hybrid offers a different construction for each of its firmness options. The Endy, on the other hand, chooses thicker layers rather than a different construction.

Temperature Control

Silk & Snow Temperature Rating
Endy Temperature Rating

Temperature control is one of the key features you should focus on when choosing a new mattress, especially if you often sleep hot. Ideally, you want the score to be at least 6 unless you often get cold during the night, in which case you can go for a lower score.

In our tests, the Endy proved to be more effective in moving hot air from you so you can sleep at a more comfortable temperature. The gel foam layer used in the Silk & Snow worked well to release heat, but the open-cell construction of the Endy’s Comfort Foam layer was better at reducing heat through increased airflow. If you sleep hot and need a mattress to reduce heat, the Endy is the better option.

Motion Isolation

Silk & Snow Motion Isolation Rating
Endy Motion Isolation Rating

Unless you sleep alone or are one of those people who can sleep through anything, you want to pay attention to the motion isolation score of a mattress. The higher the score, the better the mattress isolates movement and the less likely you are to be disturbed by your co-sleepers movements.

Both of these all-foam mattresses scored well in our tests. The Endy was a bit better at isolating motion due to the nature of its foam layers. However, the difference is small. Most sleepers aren’t likely to notice a difference in the motion isolation properties between these two. Still, the Endy performed slightly better in our tests than the Silk & Snow.

Edge Support

Silk & Snow Edge Support Rating
Endy Edge Support Rating

When do you need a mattress with stronger edges? We recommend mattresses with stronger edges for people who need more support getting in and out of bed and for anyone who likes to sleep on the edge of the bed. Without the edge support, your mattress will sink lower when getting in or out of bed, and make the transition harder. For edge sleepers, a stronger edge will prevent you from rolling out of bed and keep the mattress’s shape for longer despite the weight from sleeping on the edge.

The Endy performed significantly better than the Silk & Snow when it came to edge support. The core of the Endy mattress is a bit firmer, which allows for denser edges and better edge-to-edge support overall. Still, both rated higher than expected for all-foam mattresses, especially when compared to other options on the market.

Firmness and Comfort

Firmness Chart 6
We rated the Silk & Snow mattress as a 6 on our firmness scale.

We score the firmness of mattresses by using a sinkage test and getting feedback from our testers. For most Canadians, a mattress with a score between 4 and 7 on a scale from 1 to 10 will be a good choice. If you are a lighter sleeper, you can choose a mattress with a lower score, which will mean the mattress is softer. Heavier sleepers may benefit from going firmer and choosing a mattress with a score above 7.

Firmness Chart 6.5
The Endy mattress is about a 6.5 on our firmness scale.

The Silk & Snow and Endy foam mattresses performed similarly in our tests and received similar feedback, scoring 6 and 6.5 respectively. This means that the Endy is slightly firmer, but not significantly so. You also need to remember that firmness and comfort are subjective and mattresses will feel different depending on your sleeping position and weight.

What Are Customers Saying?

Silk & Snow customers love the company policies and the new ability to choose your firmness before purchasing. They loved the pressure relief and longer sleep trial, which allowed them plenty of time to choose.

“We love the softness of this mattress. Even with the Plush version, we weren’t expecting the cloud-like comfort of the Silk & Snow mattress.”

— Slumber.ca Verified Mattress Review (Silk & Snow)

Those who purchased the Endy mattress loved the motion isolation from this mattress, and they also appreciated being able to choose their firmness options.

“Endy is so still that I no longer wake up when my wife gets in and out of bed. Plus, it’s comfortable enough that we’re both sleeping better.”

Sleep Trials, Warranty, and Delivery

At Slumber, we always recommend that you find out if the mattress company offers a sleep trial and/or free delivery and how long the mattress’s warranty is. For example, if you have to pay for the delivery, it can pump up the price by more than $200, while a sleep trial can give you a piece of mind knowing you can decide if the mattress is right for you from the comfort of your home.

Sleep Trial

Unless you live near an Endy or Silk & Snow store, and most Canadians do not, you will have to base your decision on the information you can find online about the mattresses. This could lead to some people purchasing a mattress they can try in-store instead if it were not for sleep trials.

A sleep trial allows you to “try” a mattress at home for a certain period. You still pay for the mattress when you purchase it, but if you are not happy with it and wish to return it, you will get your money back. Silk & Snow’s sleep trial is 365 nights, which is among the best in Canada. However, Endy’s 100 nights is still plenty of time to decide if the mattress works for you.

Warranty

During the warranty period, the mattress is covered for defects related to manufacturing or materials. Both Silk & Snow and Endy all-foam mattresses come with a 15-year warranty. This means your mattress is under warranty for its whole lifespan if you change it when recommended (around 10 years for foam mattresses in regular use).

Delivery

Most Canadians will qualify for a free mattress delivery from either Endy or Silk & Snow. You will only have to pay for delivery if you live in a remote part of the country. If you think you may have to pay for it, check with the company before ordering. Depending on where you live, the delivery may take up to a week.

Final Verdict: Which Mattress is Right for You?

Based on our test results, the Silk & Snow foam mattress performed better than the similar mattress from Endy in terms of motion isolation, temperature regulation, and edge support. However, the Endy mattress was a little firmer than the Silk & Snow.

If you are a hot sleeper, share a bed, or need edge support, the Silk & Snow is likely to be the better choice for you. However, the Endy is still a very good mattress and one of the most popular brands in Canada.

Many Canadian mattress manufacturers offer more than one type of mattress and that applies to Silk & Snow and Endy, too. Both companies offer upgraded versions of their all-foam mattresses.

Silk & Snow offers two alternative mattresses: hybrid and organic. The hybrid combines foam with coils for better spinal alignment and lumbar support. The organic mattress is ideal for anyone who prefers organic materials. It is made with natural latex and cotton.

Endy offers one alternative version which is the Endy Hybrid. The top of the mattress is foam and the core has coils, which allows the mattress to deliver enhanced support. It is also more breathable and therefore sleeps cooler than the all-foam mattress.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are these mattresses made?

Endy makes their mattresses in Montreal, Quebec, while Silk & Snow’s facilities are located in Toronto, Ontario. Both companies use Canadian materials where possible.

Which mattress is best for couples?

The Endy mattress performs just a little better than the Silk & Snow when it comes to motion isolation, so it’s the option we’d recommend for couples.

Can I buy either of these mattresses anywhere else?

You can’t buy either of these mattresses at physical locations. Both are online exclusive mattresses that you can try at home for the length of their sleep trial. This gives you plenty of time to determine if it will work for you– more time, in fact, than a mattress store would give you!

What if I don’t like the mattress I choose?

If you are unhappy with your mattress or find that it isn’t for you, you can send it back for a refund during the sleep trial period. During this time, most companies offer a full refund if you want to return the mattress, provided that it’s in sanitary condition.

Do both mattresses have firmness options?

Yes, both the Endy and Silk & Snow mattresses come in multiple firmness options. You can choose the firmness you want before checkout, ensuring that you get exactly what you need from either mattress.
