Overview of Endy and Douglas Brands
In recent years, the popularity of bed-in-a-box mattress brands has increased in Canada. Both Endy and Douglas have a substantial share of this market due to their commitment to delivering quality mattresses and customer service.
Endy is one of Canada’s original and best-known bed-in-a-box brands. It launched in 2015 and is located in Montreal, Quebec where all the mattresses are manufactured. Since its launch, Endy has become known for its all-foam mattresses, and for providing quality at a lower price point. The company has a showroom in Ontario but mainly sells online.
Douglas is a slightly newer mattress brand, having launched in 2017. It is part of the GoodMorning.com bedding company, launched in 2009, and has quickly established itself as one of the largest bed-in-a-box mattress brands in Canada. Similarly to Endy, they are known for all-foam mattresses that cost less than average.

Mattress Construction and Performance

How the mattress is constructed will affect how it performs, for example, its firmness level, edge support, and motion isolation. In the next section, you will find details of how the Endy and Douglas Original mattresses are constructed and how they performed in our tests.
Differences in Endy and Douglas Original Construction
Both the Endy and the Douglas Original are made with three layers of foam. However, the types of foam used are different and this leads to different performance ratings.
The cover, of the Endy mattress is quilted polyester, designed to be breathable and soft to the touch. It can be removed and washed and it is resistant to pilling and shrinking. The first foam layer is 2″ thick Endy Comfort foam, followed by a layer of 3″ transition foam. The final layer is high-density foam which is 5″ thick to provide support and make the mattress more durable.
The Douglas Original has a CoolSense cover, which is made with Infinitex™ thread and cooling nanofibres to aid temperature regulation. Like the Endy cover, it comes off easily and can be washed to keep your mattress more hygienic. The top foam layer is ecoLight cooling gel foam, which is 2″ thick and further supports temperature regulation. The second layer is Elastex® foam, also 2″ thick, and the final layer is 6″ of high-density foam to reduce motion transfer.
While both mattresses have the same number of layers and are 10″ thick, one mattress performed better in all our tests.
Temperature Control

Many people sleep hot, especially during the warmer months, which can disturb your sleep and prevent you from waking up refreshed. Your mattress can help you regulate your body temperature if the manufacturer has used cooling technologies and materials. In our tests for temperature control, we focus on airflow and heat retention levels.
When we tested the Endy and Douglas Original mattresses for temperature control, we were surprised to find that our results were comparable. The Endy’s open-cell foam was easily able to compete with the Douglas Original’s cooling technologies to reduce heat throughout the night.
We would happily recommend either of these mattresses to anyone who sleeps hot at night and wants to reduce discomfort.
Motion Isolation

If you share a bed with another person, choosing a mattress with good motion isolation is bound to improve the quality of your sleep as you will not feel the other person’s movements as much. Anyone who wakes up easily should look for a mattress with a motion isolation rating of seven or above. The Endy and Douglas mattresses both have better-than-average motion isolation.
When we rate a mattress for motion isolation we use real people’s experiences together with technical testing. In the Endy mattress, the middle layer is made with transition foam, which works well to absorb motion rather than allowing it to travel across the mattress.
However, even though the Endy performed well, the Douglas Original got an almost perfect score. Its 6″ bottom high-density foam layer effectively traps motion allowing bed-sharers to sleep comfortably even if the other person is tossing and turning.
Although the Douglas Original got a higher score on this test, either mattress is a good choice for people who need good motion isolation.

Edge Support

People who like to sleep on the edge of the bed will benefit from choosing a mattress with good edge support. A strong edge is also beneficial for people with mobility issues as it can make getting in and out of bed easier. Foam mattresses usually don’t offer the same level of edge support as hybrids, but this isn’t true for the Endy or Douglas Original.
Both mattresses have good edge support for all-foam mattresses, where we look for a rating of at least 5/10. The Endy performed a little better than the Douglas, but not significantly so. The Endy offered a little more edge support due to its dense foam core, but both would be great options for those who need extra edge support.
Firmness and Comfort
To determine the firmness level of a mattress we test it for sinkage. The more sinkage it has, the softer it is. Each mattress receives a rating between 1 and 10 from us. Most mattresses sold in Canada are medium, with a rating between 4 and 7. A mattress with a firmness rating of 1 would be extremely soft, while 10 would be very hard.

There was very little difference between the Endy and the Douglas Original in terms of sinkage and they are both medium-firm mattresses and therefore suitable for most Canadians. However, those who are considerably lighter or heavier than average might like to consider a softer (better for lighter sleepers) or firmer (better for heavier sleepers) mattress.
All-foam mattresses generally offer good contouring and that applies to these two mattresses, too. They offer good support in all sleeping positions so you can sleep comfortably with enough pressure relief whether you prefer to sleep on your stomach, back or side.
However, you should remember that firmness is subjective. While we can use sinkage tests and user feedback to determine the approximate firmness level of a mattress, experiences may still vary.

Endy mattress customers loved the way the mattress isolated motion, and the pressure relief was perfect for many side-sleeping customers.

Sleep Trials, Warranty, and Delivery
When you are comparing mattresses, it is important to check if the mattress comes with a sleep trial, how long the warranty is, and if the company offers free delivery and returns. If you have to pay for the delivery of the mattress, this can add significantly to the cost.
Sleep Trial
A sleep trial means that you can use the mattress at home to ensure you are happy with it. If you are not, you can return the mattress and receive a full refund within the sleep trial period. Often, mattress manufacturers ask you not to request a return before you have slept on it for a specified period because it takes time for your body to adjust to a new mattress.
Endy mattresses come with a 100-night sleep trial, which is about average in Canada. If the mattress is not right for you, the company will arrange for the mattress to be picked up at no cost to you and your refund will be issued within 14 days.
Douglas, on the other hand, has one of the best sleep trials in Canada. You can try the mattress at home for 365 nights, which is more than enough time to make your mind up. You will usually receive your refund between 10 and 14 business days. If you decide to return your mattress, the pickup is free.
Warranty
A warranty is often a good indicator of a mattress’s workmanship, and both Endy and Douglas offer good warranties. For the Endy mattress, the warranty is 15 years and for the Douglas Original mattress, it is 20 years.
Delivery
Endy has two warehouses in Canada: one in Ontario and the other in British Columbia They offer free delivery to all provinces, while some locations in some Territories will incur a fee, which is $150. Therefore, ensure you check the delivery details if you live in any of the Territories. Mattresses are delivered within one week (often quicker) from the date you place your order.
Douglas also has two warehouses, which are located in Alberta and Ontario. They ship free to most areas in Canada. However, if you live in a remote area or one of the territories you may need to pay $250 for the delivery, so check before you order. Douglas aims to deliver within nine days of ordering but often delivers much sooner.
Final Verdict: Endy or Douglas Original?
When it comes to making the final decision between the Endy and the Douglas Original mattress, you need to consider your sleeping position, whether you sleep hot, whether you share your bed, and your body type. All these factors will affect how a mattress feels for you.
While both of these mattresses have similar firmness levels, one of them is considerably better at temperature regulation. Both are good at isolating movement but lack edge support. If overheating while sleeping is an issue, you will benefit from going with the Douglas Original. However, if you sleep cool, base your decision more on other factors that are important to you such as motion isolation, price, and warranty.

Other Mattresses from Endy and Douglas

If you are undecided on whether either the Endy or the Douglas Original is the right mattress for you, you might like to look at the other options these companies offer.
Endy manufactures one alternative mattress, which is the Endy Hybrid mattress. Instead of being full foam, it uses coils in the core for a more supportive feel. Thanks to the coils it is more breathable and supports the correct alignment while you sleep. However, it does not isolate motion as well as the full-foam option.
For people wanting to go with Douglas, there are two additional options: Douglas Alpine and Douglas Summit. The Alpine is 11″ thick with active cooling features and increased pressure point relief. The Summit is Douglas’s top-tier mattress. It comes with phase-changing materials to help you stay at a comfortable temperature at all times and is worth the extra money for anyone who often wakes up because of night sweats.
