Fill

The Silk & Snow Reserve Down Pillow uses a luxurious pure white duck down. Unlike other down pillows, it doesn’t use feathers at all. You’re getting the best of pure, fluffy down each time you put your head on it. All of the down used in the fill is certified by the Responsible Down Standard, so it is harvested humanely and ethically.

This pillow uses a gusseted construction for the fill, which ensures that the pillow doesn’t flatten out over time. The gussets help ensure that the pillow maintains its shape and softness for years to come.

Cover

The cover of this pillow is a 100% cotton sateen. It has a thread count of 300, which means that it’s soft and durable. The sateen weave gives it a heavier feel, and it passed all of our tear tests with flying colours. You’ll also find that the cover has a soft sheen that is beautiful and works well with most pillowcases.

Performance

This pillow stayed soft and supportive for our testers, even after their longer trials. It’s malleable and can be adjusted with different levels of fluffing and manipulation, so even sleepers who need a different loft can get the support they need. This pillow has a medium loft, which might not be enough for side sleepers. However, most can find some comfort here, even if they have to work it into a more comfortable shape.

Our testers loved how luxurious it felt. Many of them had grown used to solid foam pillows and found the change to be all they needed to sleep better.

Sizes and Options

You can choose two size options when you order this pillow. While some options from Silk & Snow come with more choices, that isn’t the case for the Silk & Snow Reserve Down Pillow. You can choose between the Standard Size (18″ x 26″) and the King size (18″ x 34″). Most pillowcases are made to fit larger than these dimensions, so expect some extra fabric when you choose pillowcases.

Who is the Silk & Snow Reserve Down Pillow for?

  • Those who have more to spend. The Silk & Snow Reserve Down Pillow is a luxurious option that comes at a premium price.
  • Canadians who aren’t allergic to down. If you don’t have down allergies, this pillow is a great choice for you.
  • Sleepers who don’t want too much loft. The loft on this pillow is just medium, so most sleepers can be comfortable.

Who Should Avoid the Silk & Snow Reserve Down Pillow?

  • Canadians on a budget. Investing in good sleep is well worth the effort, but this pillow may cost too much for the majority of Canadians.

Best Cooling – Casper Foam Pillow with Snow

The comfortable Casper Foam Pillow

This pillow includes Snow technology, Casper's signature cooling properties that reduce heat and help you sleep more comfortably throughout the night.
  • Materials: 9/10
  • Size Options: 9/10
  • Firmness and Loft Options: 7/10
  • Price: 8/10
  • Policies: 8/10

Highlights

  • HeatDelete Bands pull heat away from you for over 8 hours
  • Cooling cover promotes breathability and comfort
  • Supportive feel regardless of the loft option you choose

“I’ve tried cooling pillows before, but none of them have actually stayed cool like this one.”

— Slumber.ca Verified Mattress Review (Casper Foam Pillow with Snow)

Fill

The cooling insert for this pillow is made with 100% polyfoam. It’s certified by CertiPUR-US to be of the highest quality. It’s a breathable foam on its own, even before you add in Casper’s proprietary HeatDelete bands.

These bands are strategically placed at points where the pillow gathers the most heat. They quickly move heat away from you, reducing heat for over 8 hours per session. You can sleep more comfortably knowing that it will always be cooler with these bands.

Cover

Two covers protect this pillow. The outer shell is machine washable. It’s a blend of materials, which includes 67% polyester, 27% polyethylene, 3% recycled cotton, 2% spandex, and 1% rayon. The fabric is soft and smooth, with enough of a stretch to prevent much extra fabric. It’s more breathable than the cover on the standard Casper Foam pillow, so it removes heat much better than we expected.

The inner cover is a 100% muslin fabric that promotes breathability, so you still get all the benefits from the core of the pillow.

Performance

This pillow is soft and comfortable, with enough support for those who need better alignment. You can definitely feel the difference between this option and the standard Foam, especially over time. The Snow technology continuously pulls heat away from you as you sleep. Our testers mentioned that it didn’t heat up nearly as much as other options, and that they never felt as though they had to turn the pillow over or seek a cooler spot to lie down.

Sizes and Options

When you purchase the Casper Foam Pillow with Snow, you can choose between two sizes and two different loft levels. The pillow sizes vary in thickness depending on the loft you choose. The Standard pillow is 16″ x 24″, with a 5″ loft in the Low version and a 6″ loft in the High version. On the other hand, the King pillow is 16″ x 34″ with the same loft variation between options.

We’re looking specifically at the Casper Foam Pillow with Snow here, but you can also choose the standard Casper Foam pillow if you prefer. That option does not include HeatDelete bands, so it doesn’t offer the same type of intensive cooling as this one.

Who is the Casper Foam Pillow with Snow for?

  • Those who sleep hot. The Snow technology within this pillow dissipates heat quickly, leaving you with a cool, comfortable pillow that you never have to turn over.
  • Side sleepers. The high-loft version of this pillow makes it an ideal choice for those who sleep on their side and need more extreme alignment and relief.
  • Canadians who want to invest in luxury. The Casper Foam Pillow with Snow is more expensive than the base version, but it’s more luxurious as a result.

Who Should Avoid the Casper Foam Pillow with Snow?

  • Canadians on a budget. This pillow is a little pricey, even if the Snow cooling features are useful for hot sleepers.

The Casper Foam Pillow with Snow is a solid-core foam pillow. Some Canadians prefer the feel of a mixed fill or fill-only pillow. If that’s the case, the Silk & Snow Reserve Down Pillow or the Silk & Snow Eco Soy Pillow might be better choices.

“This pillow is so comfortable, and I love that Silk & Snow has such a long sleep trial.”

— Slumber.ca Verified Mattress Review (Silk & Snow Eco Soy Pillow)

Fill

The core of the Silk & Snow Eco Soy Pillow is made with soy-infused bio memory foam. This foam is made in Italy using renewable resources. The soy-infused foam is easier on the environment, so you can rest knowing that it doesn’t carry an unmanageable carbon footprint. This core can be adjusted to be softer or firmer depending on your options, too.

Cover

The cover is made with a material blend that emphasizes sustainable manufacturing. It’s made with 38% TENCEL Lyocell and 62% polyester. TENCEL is made from extracting materials from wood in a sustainable, closed-loop harvesting system. It’s comfortable and smooth, with an unexpected softness that slides easily against most pillowcase materials.

Because of the TENCEL, this pillow also has antimicrobial properties. This means that your pillow will stay clean for longer, as bacteria won’t have a chance to grow and create odours.

Performance

Across both firmness levels, this pillow performs well for most sleepers. It’s extremely supportive, which is critical for those who suffer from neck pain. The Firm option in particular promotes better alignment and reduces strain on your body, aligning your spine and neck to keep you comfortable throughout the night.

If you choose the Soft option, this is also true. However, the Soft option is better suited for back and stomach sleepers, while the Firm is best for side sleepers.

Sizes and Options

There are a few different choices you must make when you order your Silk & Snow Eco Soy Pillow. First, you can choose between size options. There’s a Queen (16″ x 24″) option and a King (16″ x 34″) option. When you buy pillowcases, make sure to keep these measurements in mind.

You can also choose your preferred firmness. Loft is the same on both options, so the Soft and Firm options really only affect how the pillow feels. You should choose the one that works best for you based on how you sleep.

Who is the Silk & Snow Eco Soy Pillow for?

  • Eco-conscious sleepers. If you have ever stayed awake worrying about the impact of your purchases on the environment, this pillow can help you rest easier.
  • Canadians who want a specific feel. The Soft and Firm options help you purchase a pillow that feels exactly as comfortable as you want it to.
  • Those with allergies. The antimicrobial cover and TENCEL fibres make this pillow a good choice for those with sensitive skin or allergy issues.

Who Should Avoid the Silk & Snow Eco Soy Pillow?

  • Those who need a high loft. The loft on these pillows is medium, which may not be suitable for side sleepers.
