How We Score Made in Canada Mattresses

Every mattress is scored out of 10 on each performance category. These scores are calculated using tester feedback, our own test results, and expert opinions. The higher the score, the better a mattress performed in any given category.

Testing Made in Canada Mattresses

We put each mattress through a series of tests to determine how it might perform under different circumstances. We use ball drop tests, machines that measure vibration, and temperature maps to determine how a mattress works in specific performance areas. Then, our testers take the mattress home to test it over time. Both scores are considered in our final rankings.

How We Select the Best Made in Canada Mattresses

The mattresses that made this list were selected based on their performance scores. We looked at a wide range of Canadian-made mattresses to arrive at our selections.

— Slumber.ca Verified Mattress Review (Silk & Snow Hybrid)

Silk & Snow Hybrid Construction

The Silk & Snow Hybrid is available in three firmness options, and each uses a different construction. We’ll go through each construction, but we’ll only explain a layer the first time it shows up.

Firm Version

  • Antimicrobial Cover. The antimicrobial cover keeps your bed fresh by reducing odours. Bacteria won’t grow on this cover, so your mattress stays clean and comfortable.
  • Quilted Foam. A layer of foam is quilted right into the cover. It makes the top nice and soft, cushioning you so you can fall asleep quickly and stay comfortable throughout the night.
  • Transition Foam. The middle layer of transition foam cushions deep pressure points, lifts you out of the coils, and reduces discomfort overall. At 1” tall, this layer may be too thin for heavier sleepers.
  • Zoned Pocket Coil Base with Edge Support. The Firm version of the mattress uses a pocket coil base that is 9” tall. It can contain up to 1,200 pocket coils that are zoned in the centre for stronger support.

Medium-Firm Version

  • Antimicrobial Cover. Same as Firm.
  • Quilted Foam. Same as Firm.
  • Cooling Gel Foam. The Medium-Firm features a thick layer of cooling foam in the middle of the mattress. This layer is 2” thick and infused with cooling gel to reduce heat. The foam itself is a high-density foam that cushions pressure points without allowing you to sink too far.
  • Zoned Pocket Coil Base with Edge Support. Same as Firm.

Plush Version

  • Antimicrobial Cover. Same as Firm.
  • Cooling Fabric. The Plush version of the Silk & Snow Hybrid uses an additional quilted layer of cooling fabric for its Euro-top. This cooling fabric reduces heat and draws it away from you for a more comfortable sleep.
  • Quilted Foam. Same as Firm.
  • Pressure Relief Foam. The top layer of the mattress is 2” of high-density memory foam, formulated to relieve pressure and help you sleep. This layer balances your body so you don’t press too deeply into the mattress.
  • Transition Layer. A 2” layer of transition foam helps with further cushioning and pressure relief, specifically for side sleepers with deep pressure points.
  • Zoned Pocket Coil Base with Edge Support. While this layer is functionally the same as the one used in the Firm and Medium-Firm versions, it’s only 8” tall here. It offers the same great level of support, but allows more room in the mattress profile for comfort layers.

Silk & Snow Hybrid Performance Scores

Temperature Control: 8.9/10

The Silk & Snow Hybrid reduces temperatures and prevents sweating, but it might not be enough for those who sleep very hot. It uses cooling gel in some of its versions, but all include breathable coils that promote better airflow to the centre of the mattress. It isolates heat well for those who occasionally experience night sweats.

Motion Isolation: 9.2/10

The Silk & Snow Hybrid is an oddity among hybrid mattresses. While most hybrid mattresses don’t isolate motion well, all versions of the Silk & Snow Hybrid keep you still while your partner moves around. The Firm version may be worse for motion, but the Plush version is best for couples and co-sleepers.

Pressure Relief: 8.6/10

While this mattress does well in most areas, it could do better for pressure relief. While its pressure relief isn’t too bad, some of our testing team had issues with pressure points. Heavier Canadians may sink through the mattress, allowing them to feel the firmer coil layers below.

Ease of Movement: 9.4/10

It’s easy to move around on the surface of the mattress, even when it comes to the softer versions of the bed. Our testers noted that they could turn over without any issues, and it was easy to get comfortable without feeling like they were stuck in the mattress.

Who is the Silk & Snow Hybrid For?

  • All sleeping positions. Three different firmness options make this mattress ideal for all sleeping positions.
  • Those on a budget. While this isn’t the most budget-friendly mattress in Canada, this mattress is relatively inexpensive for a Canadian-made hybrid.
  • Couples and co-sleepers. It’s rare to find a hybrid that has good motion isolation, so the Silk & Snow Hybrid stands out for couples.

Who Should Avoid the Silk & Snow Hybrid?

  • Heavier sleepers. The Plush version might be okay for heavier side sleepers, but the other versions may not provide much pressure relief for heavier Canadians.

— Slumber.ca Verified Mattress Review (Douglas Alpine)

Douglas Alpine Construction

  • Cooling Cover. The cover of the Douglas Alpine uses CoolSense technology, which means it’s woven with Infinitex fibres to reduce heat and wick away moisture. This cover is machine washable and zips on easily once it is clean.
  • Cooling Gel Foam. A top layer of ecoLight Cooling Gel Foam is coated with Polar phase-changing material. This material maintains a low temperature throughout the night without allowing you to overheat. The cooling gel foam relieves pressure as well, so you don’t develop uncomfortable pressure points.
  • Elastex Transition Layer. The transition layer is made of Elastex, a latex alternative. This foam layer mimics the properties of natural latex, so you’ll get optimal bounce and perfect cushioning for your deepest pressure points.
  • Motion Isolation Foam. The base layer of motion isolation foam is a high-density layer that keeps the bed still while you sleep. This layer balances your body and maintains perfect support for all sleeping positions.

Douglas Alpine Performance Scores

Temperature Control: 9.1/10

This mattress does a passable job of removing heat from your mattress. The cooling cover, cooling gel foam, and phase-changing material work together to move heat away from you as you sleep, promoting a cooler sleep and fewer night sweats. If you sleep extremely hot, you may need a mattress with better cooling measures.

Motion Isolation: 9.8/10

Waking up when your partner moves around is a common issue. The Douglas Alpine received a near-perfect motion isolation score from us, so you don’t have to worry about your restless partner waking you up. Testers said that they felt nothing from the other side of the bed while their testing partner was turning over or moving around normally.

Pressure Relief: 9.1/10

Douglas Alpine relieves pressure well, too. This mattress uses thick comfort layers and a latex-alternative transition layer, which helps keep the mattress responsive and cushions even your deepest pressure points. Canadians who sleep on their sides or often wake up with discomfort may appreciate the way this mattress feels, even if you sleep in the same position all night long.

Ease of Movement: 9.6/10

While other all-foam mattresses might leave you feeling stuck, the Douglas Alpine makes it easy to turn over and find a more comfortable position. It won’t take any additional effort to move out of the spot you’ve been sleeping in, no matter how long you’ve been lying there.

Edge profile of the Douglas Alpine mattress

Who is the Douglas Alpine For?

  • Warm sleepers. If you sleep hot, this mattress can help. It does a good job of removing heat, but those who sleep hot may need a better option.
  • Couple and Co-sleepers. Douglas Alpine gets a near-perfect motion isolation score from us, so you won’t be disturbed when your partner moves around.
  • Those who move around a lot at night. If you find yourself moving around often to find a comfortable position, the Doulgas Alpine should be great for you. It’s really easy to move around on the surface.

Who Should Avoid the Douglas Alpine?

  • Canadians who want more bounce. The Douglas Alpine performs well in almost every category, but it doesn’t offer the same level of bounce as other Canadian mattresses.

  • Pressure Relief: 9.4/10

Highlights

  • Comfortable luxury in a hotel-style mattress
  • Great pressure relief on top and alignment from the coils
  • Top-notch temperature control and edge support

“This is the best mattress we’ve ever purchased. It’s comfortable at the top but still supportive enough for us side sleepers to stay comfortable.”

— Slumber.ca Verified Mattress Review (Logan & Cove Frontier)

Logan & Cove Frontier Construction

  • Quilted Euro-Top. Logan & Cove Frontier is a Euro-top, which means the cover is quilted into a layer of breathable fill and gel-infused foam. This creates a pillowy surface that reduces pressure and eases you gently into sleep.
  • Cooling Gel Foam. The top layer of the mattress uses ecoLuxe cooling foam, which cushions every point where you press into the mattress. Your hips, shoulders, and knees won’t develop pressure points, and heat will filter away from you throughout the night so you don’t overheat.
  • Micro-Coil Layer. A 1” layer of aeroduct micro coils contours to your body for enhanced pressure relief. These coils also increase breathability, so the core of the mattress is cooler.
  • Transition Foam. Elastex transition foam helps add some bounce and cushions deeper pressure points. Elastex is a latex alternative that mimics all of latex’s properties without the carbon input of standard synthetic latex.
  • Zoned Pocket Coils. The base of the mattress uses a 9” layer of zoned pocket coils. There are 3 zones, including a firmer zone through the centre to support your hips and softer zones at your shoulders and knees. This layer also features strong edge support, which boosts the edges and reduces sagging.

Logan & Cove Frontier Performance Scores

Temperature Control: 9.2/10

The Logan & Cove Frontier is great at reducing temperature. The hollow fill in the Euro-top, paired with temperature-reducing foams, works to remove heat throughout the night. Testers who sleep warm reported fewer night sweats, but those who sleep very hot still needed additional cooling support to sleep through the night.

Motion Isolation: 7.1/10

If there’s one area where the Logan & Cove Frontier could improve, it’s motion isolation. The thick pocket coils and layer of micro-coils move too much for the mattress to be still, so there’s a chance you’ll still feel the majority of your partner’s movements.

Pressure Relief: 9.4/10

Pressure relief is a huge factor for most Canadians, and thankfully, the Logan & Cove Frontier delivers. The comfortable Euro-top keeps pressure to a minimum, so you can drift off to sleep without worrying about uncomfortable pressure points. Testers who usually deal with pressure points noted that they woke up more comfortable after sleeping on this mattress.

Ease of Movement: 9.3/10

Despite its somewhat plush, comfortable top, this mattress is easy to move around on. The layers work together to keep you lifted out of the mattress, even if the sinkage level is pretty substantial. Even so, the quick response time of the materials makes it simple to move around and turn over without becoming stuck.

Who is the Logan & Cove Frontier For?

  • Side sleepers. Side sleepers will enjoy the pressure relief and balanced, zoned coils found in this mattress.
  • Those who prefer a hotel-quality mattress. The hotel-quality feel is what sets the Logan & Cove Frontier apart. This high-quality Euro-top was made for those who appreciate a hotel mattress.
  • Canadians with pressure points and back pain. This mattress uses micro-coils and comfortable foams to reduce pressure and increase alignment for better lumbar support.

Who Should Avoid the Logan & Cove Frontier?

  • Couples who need motion isolation. If you are a light sleeper or you often wake up when your partner tosses and turns, you may need a mattress that isolates motion better than this one.

One area where the Logan & Cove Frontier doesn’t stack up is motion isolation. If you need better motion isolation to stay asleep, consider choosing any version of the Silk & Snow Hybrid. It offers a supportive hybrid construction without moving too much when your partner tosses and turns.

Best for Couples – The Endy Mattress

Best for Couples
The Endy Mattress provides extreme motion isolation. You don’t have to wake up each time your partner turns over in the middle of the night.

  • Firm edge support for those who sit or sleep there
  • Perfect responsiveness and ease of motion scores from our testing team

Endy Mattress Construction

Inside the Endy mattress layers
Inside the Endy mattress layers
  • Quilted Cover. The cover of the Endy mattress is a micro-quilted, breathable fabric. It can be zipped off to wash in your machine at home when it’s time to refresh your bedding.
  • Endy Comfort Foam. A top layer of Endy’s Comfort Foam reduces pressure. Its open-cell construction keeps heat away and helps stop motion as it happens, so you can sleep more peacefully.
  • Transition Layer. The transition layer is responsible for motion isolation and deep pressure relief. This layer cushions the firmer coils below, too.
  • Support Foam. The supportive base layer of the mattress works to balance your body and provide optimal support. This layer is dense and comfortable, and remains that way for years to come.

The Endy Mattress is available in three firmness levels, including Firm, Medium Firm, and Plush. The construction is the same across all firmness options. Different firmnesses are created by using softer or firmer materials.

Endy Mattress Performance Scores

Temperature Control: 9.3/10

Endy’s open-cell foam design increases temperature control and helps with motion isolation. It’s a more breathable type of foam, which Endy brands as their Comfort Foam. This helps reduce heat and keeps you more comfortable throughout the night, making it nearly impossible to overheat.

Motion Isolation: 9.6/10

Motion isolation has always been one of Endy’s biggest strengths, and that’s still true today. Endy has some of the strongest motion isolation in their all-foam mattress, so your partner can toss and turn all night long without waking you.

Pressure Relief: 8.1/10

One of the areas Endy could perform better in is pressure relief. The materials are thinner than some other mattresses, so pressure relief is a little harder to come by. The Plush version of the Endy mattress may offer better pressure relief, as we tested the Medium-Firm version. Still, heavier sleepers and those who need extreme pressure relief may need to look for it elsewhere.

Ease of Movement: 10/10

The latex transition layer and open-cell foam design work together to make movement easy. The Endy gets a perfect score from us when it comes to ease of movement, because you can move around easily without feeling stuck or uncomfortable. Testers told us that they always felt like they could change position without any issues.

Who is the Endy Mattress For?

  • Couples and co-sleepers. Couples, co-sleepers, and those who wake up at the slightest movement will love the motion isolation capabilities of the Endy mattress.
  • Those who sleep hot. The temperature control in this mattress surprised us. Most Canadians who sleep warm can stay comfortable here.
  • Combination and active sleepers. The Endy mattress gets a perfect ease of movement score from us, so those who have to move around a lot at night can sleep peacefully.

Who Should Avoid the Endy Mattress?

  • Canadians who need strong pressure relief. Though the softer versions of the Endy mattress might provide more pressure relief, most Canadians need something with stronger pressure relief capabilities.

Best Budget – Octave Vista

A side sleeper on the Octave Vista mattress
Best Budget
The Octave Vista is a budget bed in a box mattress that still performs well in most categories.
  • Temperature Control: 8.2/10
  • Motion Isolation: 8.5/10
  • Edge Support: 9.7/10
  • Pressure Relief: 8.3/10
  • Bounce: 8.0/10
  • Eco: 8.6/10
  • Response: 8.8/10
  • Ease of Movement: 9.2/10
  • Policies: 9.5/10

Highlights

  • Good performance on a budget
  • Extremely easy to move around on
  • Strong edge support keeps you from sinking or sagging

“Octave Vista was a great mattress for my first apartment. It feels great and I’m sleeping so well.”

— Slumber.ca Verified Mattress Review (Octave Vista)

Octave Vista Mattress Construction

  • Cooling Cover. The cover of the Octave Vista is made with CryoFusion nanofibres, which reduce heat by funneling it away from you. The cover is removable and washable in your washer and dryer at home.
  • CopperGel Memory Foam. The top layer of foam is infused with copper and coated with a phase-changing material. The copper infusion helps siphon heat away from you, as copper is naturally conductive and antimicrobial. The phase-changing material maintains a cooler sleep temperature throughout the night.
  • Elastex Foam. The middle of the mattress features a layer of Elastex foam. This latex-alternative foam helps cushion your body, reducing strain and maintaining balance. It keeps you lifted out of the firmer support layer below and keeps the mattress extremely responsive.
  • Multi-Zone Support Foam. The core of the mattress uses an 8” layer of support foam. This layer uses air channels to reduce heat, but it also has five pressure relief zones to reduce uncomfortable pressure points.
A closer look at the Octave Vista mattress in our testing bedroom
A closer look at the Octave Vista mattress in our testing bedroom

Octave Vista Performance Scores

Temperature Control: 8.2/10

The Octave Vista uses a layer of phase-changing material and copper-infused foam to reduce heat at the top of the mattress. While these layers do a good enough job for sleepers who experience infrequent night sweats, those who regularly sleep hot might need stronger cooling properties.

Motion Isolation: 8.5/10

Most all-foam mattresses isolate motion well, but the channeled foam at the base of the Octave Vista affects its ability to keep still. The channels mean that the mattress moves more when your partner turns over or gets out of bed. Our testers who sleep lightly sometimes woke up when their testing partner was restless.

Pressure Relief: 8.3/10

Pressure relief is important for side sleepers and those who press too deeply into the mattress. The comfort layers of the Octave Vista are the thinnest of any Octave mattress. While they work fine for lightweight and some average sleepers, heavier sleepers and those who prioritize pressure relief may need to look elsewhere.

Ease of Movement: 9.2/10

It’s easy to move around on the surface of the mattress thanks to the responsive foam layers. The Elastex foam transition layer maintains responsiveness, so the materials reform quickly when you move away. You won’t get the ‘quicksand’ feeling that often accompanies regular memory foam.

Who is the Octave Vista For?

  • Canadians on a budget. This mattress is more affordable than most of the other mattresses we’ve tried, so it’s a good option for those on a budget.
  • Lightweight sleepers. Heavier sleepers may sink through the comfort layers, so lightweight sleepers will have the best time with this mattress.
  • Those who move around a lot. It’s easy to move around on this mattress, as you can turn over without feeling stuck.

Who Should Avoid the Octave Vista?

  • Hot sleepers. The Octave Vista uses cooling materials, but it didn’t perform as well in this area as we’d hoped.

Best Premium Foam – Casper Dawn

Best Premium Foam
Casper Dawn is Casper’s newest budget all-foam mattress, but it still uses Casper’s premium foams.
  • Temperature Control: 7.2/10
  • Motion Isolation: 9.0/10
  • Edge Support: 9.2/10
  • Pressure Relief: 7.1/10

  • Eco: 7.0/10

Highlights

  • New affordable option from Casper
  • Outstanding motion isolation and edge support
  • Responsive all-foam support

“Casper Dawn seemed too good to be true, considering most Casper mattresses are more expensive. However, we were pleasantly surprised with how comfortable this mattress was overall.”

— Slumber.ca Verified Mattress Review (Casper Dawn)

Casper Dawn Mattress Construction

A closer look at the layers of foam within the Casper Dawn Mattress
A closer look at the layers of foam within the Casper Dawn Mattress
  • Knit Cover. Casper Dawn’s knit cover is removable and washable. It’s extremely soft and breathable as well, providing your first line of defence against discomfort.
  • Casper Signature Foam. The top layer is a responsive foam that contours to your body without allowing you to sink too far. This layer offers bounce and light pressure relief.
  • Transition Foam. A layer of transition foam reduces deep pressure points, keeping your body balanced and lifted out of the foam layer below.
  • Supportive Base Foam. The supportive base of the mattress is firm and supportive, balancing your body and reducing sinking, no matter how you sleep.

The Casper Dawn also comes in an ‘Extra Firm’ option, but the construction is the same. The extra firmness comes from the use of firmer materials in this construction.

Casper Dawn Performance Scores

Temperature Control: 7.2/10

The Casper Dawn doesn’t use any active cooling technologies, so it comes as no surprise that it sleeps warmer than we generally like to see. These materials retain heat, which can be great for those who sleep cooler. Those who usually wake with night sweats will need to choose a mattress with better cooling capabilities.

Motion Isolation: 9.0/10

Casper Dawn is an all-foam mattress, so it helps isolate motion better than other types of mattresses. You won’t feel much when your partner tosses and turns, but you may feel larger movements (such as when they get out of bed). Our testers mentioned that they were able to feel some things from the other side of the bed, but it was mostly still.

Pressure Relief: 7.1/10

Pressure relief starts with comfort layers, but the comfort layers of the Casper Dawn are extremely thin compared to other mattresses we’ve looked at. As a result, it doesn’t offer the same level of pressure relief as other all-foam mattresses. If you need pressure relief to stay comfortable, this isn’t the mattress for you.

Ease of Movement: 8.9/10

Responsive materials make it easy to move around on the surface of the mattress. The response time is quick enough that the materials spring back into shape as soon as you move away, so you aren’t stuck in the same spot all night long.

Who is the Casper Dawn For?

  • Couples. Couples and those who require motion isolation will appreciate how still the Casper Dawn is when they move around.
  • Lightweight sleepers. Lightweight sleepers are less likely to feel strain or discomfort on the thinner comfort layers of the Casper Dawn.
  • Cool sleepers. This mattress works best for those who don’t sleep too hot, and may be a great option for those who tend to sleep cooler than average.

Who Should Avoid the Casper Dawn?

  • Heavier Sleepers. The thinner comfort layers don’t create a lot of pressure relief for heavier sleepers, who can quickly bottom out in the mattress.

Juno Hybrid Mattress Construction

  • Knit Cover. The cover of the Juno Hybrid is a smooth, soft knit material. It’s durable and slides well under your sheets. If you require additional cooling power, you can upgrade to the Juno Cool+ Cover, a paid upgrade available at checkout.
  • Cooling Gel Foam. The comfort layer is 2” of full-body cooling gel foam. It pulls excess heat away from you as you sleep. It also contours to your body for increased pressure relief and balance.
  • Transition Foam. A thin layer of transition foam keeps you lifted out of the coil layer. This layer helps both the comfort layer and the coil base feel more comfortable than they would on their own.
  • Zoned Pocket Coil Base. The base of the mattress features a 6” layer of zoned pocket coils, which are individually wrapped to relieve pressure and offer strong support. Coils run through the centre of the mattress, providing firmer support, while the top and bottom thirds of the mattress are softer for increased pressure relief.
  • Base Foam. The final layer of the Juno Hybrid is a foundation layer of base foam. This dense base layer adds stability and helps the mattress retain its shape for years to come.

Juno Hybrid Performance Scores

Temperature Control: 9.0/10

Breathable coils and cooling gel foam reduce temperature throughout the night. These layers move heat away from you and circulate cooler air through the mattress, so it doesn’t build up and cause night sweats. These materials work together effectively to keep you cooler as you sleep.

Motion Isolation: 7.3/10

Hybrid mattresses offer notoriously poor motion isolation, so it’s not surprising to us that the Juno Hybrid allows motion to transfer across the surface. This mattress moves a little too much to be ideal for couples or those who wake easily when their partner tosses and turns.

Pressure Relief: 7.5/10

The comfort layers of the Juno Hybrid are a bit too thin to provide much pressure relief. While our lightweight testers were okay with this mattress, most found that it didn’t relieve enough pressure for them to sleep comfortably. Heavier sleepers especially did not appreciate how this mattress felt when it came to pressure relief.

Ease of Movement: 9.1/10

It’s easy to move around on the surface of the Juno mattress. This is partially because of the coils. Pocket coils are responsive and move when you do, leading to worse motion isolation but less sinkage overall. Testers found it easy to change positions without struggling.

Who is the Juno Hybrid For?

  • Lightweight sleepers. Lightweight sleepers will be more comfortable than others on this mattress thanks to its thin comfort layers.
  • Canadians on a budget. This is the most affordable hybrid mattress on the Canadian market.
  • Those who need strong lumbar support. The zoned coils of the Juno Hybrid provide strong lumbar support due to the firmer coils through the middle of the mattress.

Who Should Avoid the Juno Hybrid?

  • Couples. This hybrid is mostly coils, so couples who need motion isolation won’t find it here.
